Hi Zack thanks for taking the time to do the comparison...... Side by side on the entire kit... I believe there is a substantial difference in the dollar amount. I'm just wondering if my fellow drummers feel its worth the the difference? What are your thoughts? Perhaps if both kits were offered as an endorsement...., however out of pocket $$$
This is indeed a great question... I wouldn't honestly if comparing these two snares and if I were in a music store and saw the buy now price on them, I'd save my coin and go with the PDP. With the right head combo you'd never tell the difference. Now if this was a collectors series DW vs PDP then I would spend the extra money. But these are soooo close in build I would cheap out and feel confident in the same result.
The DW Performance sounded more focused with clarity sounds. The Pdp is nice! some extra harmonic buzz but pretty close The Performance in my opinion is just more clarity sounding maybe its the lacquer adding extra sonic value. Man! I would experiment with adding rubber washers & maybe oil the inside of my Pdp 5inch snare?
That is a great idea! Maybe try finishing the inside of the PDP and see what happens... plus it would just look so much nicer seeing the finished DW snare.
Seems to me that the PDP sounded lower in tone then the DW. Could this be attributed to the tuning of the lower head? I wonder how the difference in depth affects the sound, and what about the bearing edge, PDP is traditional, and the DW is more of a round over. If the bottom head was replaced with an equivalent Remo snare side head and the bearing edge of the PDP were blunted would they sound closer in tone? And what about the threads per inch DW vs the PDP... are they the same? Thank you for making this video! It is truly fascinating!
Those are great questions indeed. I really like to know how much the bearing edges make a difference! That's an interesting point. As far as threads, the PDP and DW both use the same threads on the tension rods.
@Zack Zweifel Very true brother, I love the wood hoop version too but i'm scared if it breaks haha. I also love the Yamaha stage custom birch kit. Both are my favorites PDP concept maple and Yamaha stage custom. Those two bad boys can kick the ass of lots of high end priced kit.
I currently own the Concept, sounds like I won't be upgrading to that DW. I like your side by side comparison on the kit. I personally am addicted to higher tunings, so it was a short vid for me. lol Good job.

I'd be a liar if I didn't say.... after this video I think I'm going to make the switch and play the DW full time now! I really love the sound of it.. was hoping my PDP would be just as good (which it's close) but the DW just holds up better in the sound comparison test!
@@ZackZweifel I like when a snare gives easily. It sounds like the dw does that. It seemed like the pdp took more work and gave less. Almost like trying to hit it harder to get more of the body but only getting more of the high pitch sound. It was amazing how warm the dw is Do you know if the dw snare has a vlt construction or anything like that? Where they set the plies at different angles

More overtone on the PDP? Maybe if you put some moon gel or a ring on it, it would sound more similar to the DW.

I own the dark gray PDP concept snare. Also am using the Remo controlled sound battered head on it. Size is 14x6.5. I love it.
They Both Sound Good To Me, The DW Has more Focused Sound .
I Own a PDP Concept Maple I use EVANS CLEAR 360 . AND THEY Sing Beautifully

Just asking the question isn't the DW performance North American Maple and the PDP is an Asian Maple ?
