- Here’s the official trailer of “Marupok AF (Where Is The Lie?)” - a dark comedy film, inspired by a story that went viral.
The film follows the story of trans woman Janzen, whose romantic hopes are shattered when a perfect match on a dating app ghosts her, revealing a web of deceit and catfishing orchestrated by a cunning mastermind named Beanie.
“Marupok AF,” starring EJ Jallorina, Royce Cabrera, and Maris Racal, directed by Quark Henares, comes out in Ayala Malls Cinemas starting July 10!
The movie is nice but i really hope they don't romanticize the character of Maris Racal. I read the Twitter thread. The whole thing is a crime. There's a lot of things that happened that is basically unforgivable. I just don't want people to fawn over the character of Maris. Whatever the reason of the person who catfished it was unforgivable. Hay naku, sana naman hindi shonga shonga mag analyze manunuod nito.

This movie probably opened the eyes of Maris in different perspectives about life that could probably triggered her break-up with Rico Blanco, hoping the best for them ahead individually 🙏
This was already released last 2023 for Cinemalaya (and filmed it several years ago) but they re-released it this 2024. You can browse the internet for more info. So I doubt this has a huge impact on Maris recently.
While watching the trailer I thought.. hey this story seems familiar.. and then I remember this twtr thread during pandemic abt this story. Hope this will be shown even in province or at least we'll have an access online where we can watch it. I like Mariz. Can't wait.
