God bless this troubador..........pure talent. One man, his voice and piano, and I could listen for hours. No computers, machines, eighty-five dancers/backup singers, stupid props............................just the purity of his talent. "Yeehaw", indeed. Peace:-)
Years ago, he was at Rich Stadium in Buffalo and it was raining, with a good portion of the crowed getting soaked. Elton, sitting at his piano, was under an immense awning over the stage. After a couple of songs he came to the front of the stage and thanked everyone for sitting in the rain to listen to his songs. Then a roadie ran up, drenched him with a bucket of water, another one tossed him a towel, and he ran back to the piano and started belting out "Saturday Night's All Right for Fightin'.
Roy Rogers, the famous singing cowboy (the King of the Cowboys) was a big name Hollywood actor who was idolized by millions, and a star not only of films but of radio and TV. When Elton and his collaborator Bernie Taupin wrote this, Rogers was still very much alive. It is not only a song about Roy Rogers but a hymn for everyone who lives a boring, humdrum life and yearns to escape. Although it was born out of Taupin's love of the Old West, the duo had a consensus.
I don't know how anyone could hear this and think he's struggling to sing it. It's completely unfair to compare it to the original, which was 35 years prior to the recording of this performance. Elton is still a great singer, just in a different way than he was at the beginning.
I think he sounds really good on his. He sings the song very similar to the original, despite having vocal surgery In the 1980s that caused his voice to be much deeper Than it was originally
I've always been a big Roy Rogers fan, but just found out about this song. It's marvelous the way Elton puts hoofbeats in his piano and Bernie's lyric is so full of imagery. I love it.
I consider this song one of the most beautiful and poetical in the world and one play that shows a entire Elton John's soul; simply the best! Brave! Brave!
My most fave song from him, think its because my dad would always watch westerns, the cowboy movies (still watches them to this day) so everytime I hear it or just listening to it like now, always think my about my Dad and always puts a smile on my face haha :)
one of my favorites I have seen him 55 times from 1976 till last concerts , only got to listen to this once in concert,,, what a great ride through life with him we have had , would NOT trade what I have seen and heard for nothing,,,thank you ELTON MITCH & RAYETTA
Thinking of my late Dad, a huge fan of westerns. Elton John is superb. Love him since the early 70s. Top song. Thank you Elton for being a soundtrack to my teens.
So kindly written, so touching. Feel it in my heart, man, we need more of these comments as opposed to those of hate. I thank You and Sir Elton John for this.
when I was a youngin (70's), I would lay on the floor with headphones on and listen to this album for hours...The best concert I went to was Elton back in the 90's at the SJ arena
You make a point whose validity we see confirmed over and over again with aging rockers. Especially when we have the originals etched deeply on our memories. Well said.
If you know Elton well on UA-cam, You can tell he felt really good this evening he was singing effortlessly for the most part. Holding the notes, Wish they had the entire concert to show. You can totally see the confidence.
written by eltons partner bernie taupin..he wrote the lyrics, bernie was a huge cowboy fan,,and now lives in the states, having reinvented himself as an english cowboy,..
I've always loved this song. I've performed this back in 1988 and beyond. For years most folk didn't even know I was covering EJ until I told them. This is the first video I have ever seen EJ play Roy Rogers. Great to see. Even better that the fans didn't think it was a kareoke event, which ALWAYS kills a concert.
@@nicknick1864 you're right I am incorrect about some things in life. Whyd you have to Google that@lyrics? Anyways your right and I'm not Elton John and neither are you Topplen but I Can't be right about everything! Somebody Save My Life; funeral for a Friend
@tpowell453 He dropped down in key and inverted a few phrases to adjust to his present voice, but it was well done. In one part, I think of the second refrain, he holds in midrange while what seem like backup voices carry it up to the original high note, then fade back down to his note and he takes it from there. He is an artist, and a consummate showman.
Ya know...some songs he did better in the seventies and early 80's with the really high voice...some he really just does better with his older, deeper voice.
One of Elton and Bernie's most underrated songs.
These guys had dozens of underrated songs, but this was indeed a classic.
Yep
Luv it 😊
Yuppers💗
Of all the incredible songs on the Goodbye Yellow Brick Road album, this is my favorite.
And then "I've seen that movie too" moves in... There's no favourite.
This is such an amazing album. My parents used to listen to this album a lot when i was a kid, now it’s one of my favorites too.
God bless this troubador..........pure talent. One man, his voice and piano, and I could listen for hours. No computers, machines, eighty-five dancers/backup singers, stupid props............................just the purity of his talent. "Yeehaw", indeed. Peace:-)
So true!

Genius.
I haven't the vocabulary to describe my emotions listening to this masterpiece.
Turn on the TV, shut out the lights Roy Rogers is riding tonight

@@dogpd3Not true. The surgery did what is was supposed to. The pot smoking ruined his voice.
Struggled? I think this is the best ever performance of this song
Bernie Taupin is often forgotten......the poet behind Elton's music.
nah he aint forgotten. elton never forgets to credit him.
This is R E A L Talent. Nothing like the shit they try to pass off as music today. Long Live Elton !!!
I've always been a big Roy Rogers fan, but just found out about this song. It's marvelous the way Elton puts hoofbeats in his piano and Bernie's lyric is so full of imagery. I love it.
Never picked up on the hoof print sound. Now I have to listen to this another 100x's.Cool.
I always play a hoofbeat with my fingers on the top of my piano when I finish singing this song, as I let the melody fade via the sustain pedal.
LOVE THIS SONG!!! Heard him sing it solo, just amazing!!!
He sounds like a dream ❤❤❤ I'll ALWAYS love you Elton ❤
I consider this song one of the most beautiful and poetical in the world and one play that shows a entire Elton John's soul; simply the best! Brave! Brave!
One of my all time favourites from Elton John
This guy is a monster, I have been listening to him since my childhood.
Roy Rogers & Dale Evans…yes there are heroes out there!
My most fave song from him, think its because my dad would always watch westerns, the cowboy movies (still watches them to this day) so everytime I hear it or just listening to it like now, always think my about my Dad and always puts a smile on my face haha :)
magnificent writing , playing and singing.......
I Just Love his voice, He is perfect !
one of my favorites I have seen him 55 times from 1976 till last concerts , only got to listen to this once in concert,,, what a great ride through life with him we have had , would NOT trade what I have seen and heard for nothing,,,thank you ELTON
MITCH & RAYETTA
A hymn to all those who lead a boring, mundane life and long to escape. Beautiful song!
Just a man and his piano. One of his most underrated songs….
Thinking of my late Dad, a huge fan of westerns. Elton John is superb. Love him since the early 70s. Top song. Thank you Elton for being a soundtrack to my teens.
Kitty Metal Yeah makes me think of my grandpa and his love of westerns.
So kindly written, so touching. Feel it in my heart, man, we need more of these comments as opposed to those of hate. I thank You and Sir Elton John for this.
fantastic song. one of the most underrated elton songs ever!!
My all time favorite by Mr. John.
I remember 1973 back when music was real
Um grande clássico do álbum maravilhoso.
when I was a youngin (70's), I would lay on the floor with headphones on and listen to this album for hours...The best concert I went to was Elton back in the 90's at the SJ arena
This song reminds me of my Dad who passed a few years back...love it thank you for posting.
Lets hear Simon Cowell's Karaoke singers do this. This is from a time when singers played a musical instrument as well as vocals. Absolute class.
Who?
Reginald and Bernie struck gold here.
Thank you mr elton john, you have been the sound trak to many peoples lives,
Elton John sua voz radiante maravilhosa lu
Roy Rogers and Ticking are my two favorite EJ songs to perform whem I play.
My earliest Elton John song. Still love it so much
Beautiful song!
You make a point whose validity we see confirmed over and over again with aging rockers. Especially when we have the originals etched deeply on our memories. Well said.
love the lyrics love the song after all these years
It´s one of my favourite song on the album GYBR..I still have the LP vinyl left to listen too!
What a GREAT song from a GREAT song writing duo!
One of Elton's most transcendent songs.
This was his solo tour that year. Saw the show at the University of Delaware. OOne of the best concerts of his that I ever saw!
If you know Elton well on UA-cam, You can tell he felt really good this evening he was singing effortlessly for the most part. Holding the notes, Wish they had the entire concert to show.
You can totally see the confidence.
This video is a great rendition of Roy Rogers. And it shows how great he used to sing back in the 70s and he recaptured it here very well
This is one of my favorite bedtime songs
Wow, excellent video. He has such a powerful voice
Voice and piano only 👏👏👏👏
Great!
...Maravilhoso...me leva de volta á minha infância....roy e elton...que saudades..poxa...que saudades...
One the most underrated songs of all time - describes the life of zillions of people who make the world go round...
It's Elton gift. He's extremely reliable. Incredibly talented man

No doubt- one of his very best
THIS IS SO AWESOME AND HEARTFELT. I LIKE THIS ONE BETTER THAN THE ORIGINAL.
@salamanca1954 This song is performed in the same key as it was recorded for the album.
Simplesmente maravilhoso.
Amo de paixão
Good song,nice tune
Please send lyrics
Escutando essa canção, me lembro muito do filme Requien de um sonho. A história da mãe do protagonista é semelhante a dessa canção de Elton John
Simplesmente Excelente!!! 🎵🎙🎹🎧
Ever. loved this song...trully a master piece...❤❤
That was awesome
Rip Grandpa. 😢❤
Thanks for posting this marvelous rarely played song. Elton John has so many "deep cuts" that deserved to be hits.
música linda canta muito
Antonio Vieira dos Santos
Tendo em vista as outras músicas dele, essa é pouca tocadas nas rádios do Brasil.
Best version!!!
By far my favourite elton song...brilliant!
saw him in brisbane about 10 years ago, he had this song on the backdrop as a video... fantastic.......
what a voice......
only the one. Thank you Elton :)
I'd rather have in my sandwich than cheese, one of my favorite lyrics
Isn't it:
"I'd rather have HAM in my sandwich than cheese"?
What, no ham?
I love this song and Elton is my idol, he's fantastic!!
I saw him alive in NYC . One big mark in my life.
Roy Rogers and Trigger are a little bit of childhood
Wonderful!
Oi, tudo bem bonito?essa me lembro que vc gostava muito!sdds!t.a.boa noite!♡
In a word - awesome (IMO).
Love this song❤️👏🏻👏🏻
He looks SO good in this vid! As in any other video, of course... ;)
ELTON has such great hair! 🤔😉🤗
how could an English song-writter understand so good the spirit of the deep America in a song ?
Elton was an avid country Western fan
And yes they did watch Roy Rogers on British TV reruns
You'd have to ask Bernie. He wrote it.
9o'clock Mornins,5o'clock Evenins,I'd Laugh In thier Faces If I Could,I Would Rather Have Have Ham With My Sandwich&Cheese;)Roy Rogers:)Love It!!!:)
Too bad you don't know the lyrics and post them incorrectly. It is "Liven the pace" not what you wrote.
@@nicknick1864 you're right I am incorrect about some things in life. Whyd you have to Google that@lyrics? Anyways your right and I'm not Elton John and neither are you Topplen but I Can't be right about everything! Somebody Save My Life; funeral for a Friend
Amo essa música
If you listen closely at the beginning it sounds like “In Neon”

It's still in F.
"Yee ~ Hah !" : )
I Love. He is the best
Ya know...some songs he did better in the seventies and early 80's with the really high voice...some he really just does better with his older, deeper voice.
It ain't underated... it's number one.
