From the first time I cracked the wrapper on "Captain Fantastic" in 1975, this song combo sends chills down my spine. As a pianist, this is one of my favorite Elton tunes to play and sing.
At 61 years old I realize that these songs are timeless.. I have a 13 year old son who is super hooked on EJ and I can't find one thing wrong with that! God bless Elton John.....
Rocco..you are lucky to have a son who can actually appreciate our music...my youngest (now 41) said "mom you know I knew the words to the music you played before I knew my ABC's"....how precious...
my parents didnt even know EJ but im only 15 and i found him when i was 14. ive never loved my life more and its all because of EJ and his music. it has filled that void in my life that was needed to be filled.
You know its funny. I thought I was the only one out here who truly appreciated Curtains. Love to put on my headphones in an empty house and sing as loud as I can with this video. Nigel rocks.
These two songs go together as if they were one song. Some of the greatest rock music of all time never made it to the radio or is known by the masses. This is among Elton's best.
I've been an Elton fan since age 10 with Honky Chateau. 52 years later my appreciation of his music and Bernie's lyrics has continued to grow. They've created some of greatest music over those five decades you could imagine. Thank you Elton and Bernie for a lifetime of your special gift.
Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy...WOWWWWW!!! What a treasure. Remember coming home from my senior year in HS daily, heading for my room, bean bag chair, headphones, and a big joint cranking this masterpiece up all the way and get in my world. Until mom would thump me in the head for dinner. That was 1976
Sorry of your loss! 😢 I came upon this song few months ago by another UA-camr and had to know which song this was from Elton. The song is becoming my favorite! ❤
Sitting here with tears rolling down my cheeks remembering a younger time when we would sit in the car and sing along to these tunes. Easily my favorites from the album. Nice job Elton and Bernie!
Happy nostalgic tears... me too, playing "Curtains" on repeat (timecode 04:17 - on) and singing along, remembering those sweet days of youth & when this LP came out, still a favorite & Elton going strong, love seeing his joy in this as he plays and sings.
Two of Elton John's most amazing and underrated songs. These songs helped me get through some difficult times when I was a teenager in the 70s. Sad but also very moving and inspiring. We've all had our once upon a time. Lum de dum day..
I totally agree with everything you said, amazing and underrated songs, Helped me as well in the 70s. I used to blast this and my mom would get so mad, she would be hanging on the door, LOWER THAT,lol
I bought this album the day it came out in 1975. Captain Fantastic is Elton's finest album. This ending suit to the album is beyond beautiful. I still know the words to "Curtains" by heart. Bernie is a brilliant wordsmith and he is influential to me in my writing.
I'm 51 years old, I've been listening to Elton John since I've been about 10, Started picking up his piano style on the piano myself. As a lot of people are I'm also a big Billy Joel fan. You always hear about the comparisons. But then I have to remind myself, Elton always creates a feeling, a moment in time in your life, And you can always go back to that song. and remember what you were doing. So many sides to his music. He could do anything especially in his heyday but even through the early nineties the improvising was amazing. And then I realize that Billy Joel, Doesn't even touch Elton in so many ways, And yet Billy Joel is awesome himself which that tells you how great Elton John is if anyone else out there understands what I'm saying let me know.
Incredible. Im a huge Elton fan and with all the monster hits he had, Curtains may be my favorite Elton tune. Its beautiful as is the entire Captain Fantastic album.
I'm 65 and followed Elton John from day one, but Capt fantastic and yellow brick road albums are his perfection of music. Curtains is just award winning epic, wow.
These recordings had such a magical feeling. It made me feel like I was in a movie when I was a kid. This doesn’t capture that magic. Sure, they’re playing all the right parts; but the gospel choir sounds out of place and nothing like the dreamy vibe of the original. By 2005 Elton wasn’t the same artist anymore. He couldn’t take me to that place anymore. I don’t know whether it was the duet with RuPaul or Dua Lipa; but somewhere along the line I no longer recognized him as the world changing artist he once was.
I used to think Your Song was Elton's best song ever written but I don't know now, I can't stop listening to this, just like Your Song it's a great marriage of lyric and melody. It just shows Elton John and Bernie Taupin are genius....
WOW! Just WOW! Great version of this Classic. I remember the day my father brought this home to me the week it was released. I was 15 and having a personal issue. This album changed my life.
Captain Fantastic was Elton's finest album. I worshiped this record and this ending suite of two songs has always moved me. I recited the lyrics to "Curtains" in a class a few years ago and it just flowed so easily. Bernie's lyrics are so meaningful.
I have loved these two songs for many, many years. And wow, seeing Gus and Dee's names on Nigel's drums near the end of the video really hit me. Rest in peace Dee Murray and Gus Dudgeon ... and also Guy Babylon, Bob Birch, and Roger Pope. Your incredible talents will never be forgotten.
what can one say? Elton is Mr Integrity of the music business, his feistiness reflective of a firebrand intelligence that doesn't suffer fools. This song so very beautiful and a deeper cut...
For me, the Captain Fantastic album was Elton's peak, and he's said as much himself. As a teen i was in heaven, love We All Fall in Love Sometimes (glad he's got backing vocals for the higher notes here) and Curtains may be my favourite of all. Now after all these years, The Union is a great new album.
This album and these songs are so important to me and my family. Growing up as kids was always a favourite, I mimicked Nigel’s drumming and effectively he taught me how to play drums and I’ve been playing ever since ❤ always loved Elton Saw him in 1984 Wembley 👏🏼 and to see his performance Sunday 39years later in Glastonbury… what a career 🎶🙏🏼 thankyou for the incredible music Elton and the band 🎶x
Yes , I agree ! First time , I listened to this LP , 16 y o , something happened in my head ! Specialy these two ones ... In credible beauty and the transition between the 2 is simply outstanding !
I actually attended this show at Madison Square Garden in NYC and this was the first time I had ever heard the song Curtains. The passage about the Dandelions reminded me of my childhood and being raised in the countryside. It was my birthday...21st September..a great fun night! Sometime after I did a work project for Elton John and told him about how much the song brought back wonderful memories and he was deeply touched and delighted. It was a fun project too!!
I've always loved the passage about the dandelion. As much as Bernie refuses to be called a poet, the lyric is just that. The lyric itself actually refers to one of the first songs Reg and Bernie wrote together - A Dandelion Dies in the Wind. In the same way, the scarecrow reference in the first verse of this song is a reference to the first song they ever wrote together - Scarecrow. ua-cam.com/video/iWt6MniH_hs/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/uMw_zcViVWs/v-deo.html&feature=emb_logo
@@ActionMediaProductions l saw the Captain Fantastic 30th anniversary tour in Boston, where he played all of the Peachtree Road album as well as Captain Fantastic. I had been looking forward to Writing as l love it, but then if he were to play everything that l love of his we'd likely still be there today. So emotional listening to this. I'm a senior person now and l literally grew up with his songs thank you so much Sir Elton John very bessed and privileged 🙏
I loved these tunes since CF first appeared and still can't get enough of it today! 2:16 to 2:42, Davey's guitar rings in resonance with my soul. And the part where he toggles from the neck pickup to the bridge pickup on that Les Paul just chills me! EJ looks like he's enjoying the end of Curtains!
And just like us, you must have had.....a once upon a time. Curtains gets me every time. I've never seen him play this live. This is just brilliant! Love Davey guitar and Nigel's dedications on his drum kit. Dee Murray is greatly missed.
@Michael Hamby are too! For some reason, I'll be singing along an tears fall from my eyes. I does the same with "We All Fall In Love Sometime" I'd so love to see him live. 😢💓🎤🎵🎶🎹
Brilliant! From one of the best albums of all time. Can't say enough about Sir Elton. The feeling he puts into songs is hard to describe. Love Bernie's lyrics!
I was at this show. He played the entire Capt. Fantastic album.Got tix via EJ Fan club- 8th row in front of him. He signed for everyone in front row. A beautiful song
Always loved these songs, esp We All Fall in Love. This is an excellent version of both, and interestingly, Elton's voice change sits quite well with We All Fall in Love (here without the falsetto, which was toast by then), and, Curtains with the live chorus is really great, and Elton loves it too...... Love live music.... Special.
Elton John has so many beautiful songs on you tube, spotify, not to mention all the early stuff on vinyl. Looking through my collection of vinyl, tapes, cd's and all the songs he collaborated with other greats. He will never be forgotten, next to my personal favorite, John Lennon who once said to Elton "if it weren't for you I'd throw my radio out the window. Enjoy Elton John
Captain Fantastic was my favourite album. I saw Elton John one time only, in 1976, when I acquired some last-minute tickets to see a concert in St. Paul, Minnesota. This song, along with Curtains was the encore and it left me with an enduring memory which is still one of the highlights of my life! I missed the effect of the very high notes from background singers and the bells in that concert, which adds so much to this video, IMHO, however, the effect is so similar. I remember at the concert when the song began, Davey accidentally got some strange feedback from an amp when he bumped into it just after the line "it crackled on the speaker". He looked at Elton John in shock, and the two of them cracked up laughing for a few seconds but the song continued flawlessly. I had stood in line for hours to get a good seat and almost got trampled in pursuit of that good seat, however, being able to see moments like that made it all worthwhile. One of the best nights of my entire life!
This sounds exactly like the album - right down to Davey Johnstones bars on the Les Paul! We saw Elton live in 2017 we were like 50 feet from the stage it POURED DOWN but who cared we loved every minute. Curtains always makes me tearful as it reminds me of a happy childhood when my parents were still alive and a scarecrow called 'Odmidod' from the Rupert books is the hero! I often listen to Curtains as I lie in bed to fall asleep to - tears trickling down my face - remembering lost times when this album first came out - happier times than todays troubled world - its Curtains for that old world...........LOVE YA ELTON, FAREWELL ROCKETMAN X
We All Fall In Love Sometimes" Wise men say It looks like rain today It crackled on the speakers And trickled down the sleepy subway trains For heavy eyes could hardly hold us Aching legs that often told us It's all worth it We all fall in love sometimes The full moon's bright And starlight filled the evening We wrote it and I played it Something happened it's so strange this feeling Naive notions that were childish Simple tunes that tried to hide it But when it comes We all fall in love sometimes Did we, didn't we, should we couldn't we I'm not sure `cause sometimes we're so blind Struggling through the day When even your best friend says Don't you find We all fall in love sometimes And only passing time Could kill the boredom we acquired Running with the losers for a while But our Empty Sky was filled with laughter Just before the flood Painting worried faces with a smile
My late husband favorite songs..ito lagi niyang inaawit during our bonding times..i miss those tiumes when we were together..wherever u are now u are always in my heart...
I was soooo jealous when I heard he was playing this song in NY, but wouldn't be playing it later in the tour. Thanks so much for uploading this. Gus Dudgeon and Dee Murray are very missed, but it's nice to still have Davey and Nigel in the band. I would say the recorded version of these songs is his peak production-wise, vocally, and creatively. Captain Fantastic is indeed a great album, although he does have many other great ones (including the follow-up Captain and the Kid from 2006).
I can’t stop playing this, the ‘togetherness’ of the whole band on this is just stunning, we all know they are always stunning but this STUNNING, love it, love it, love it!
Love this.I like how Elton will include songs buried in albums from the past.Good songs I may add. Unlike many artists today who just keep the same set lists from town to town.
+R Paz Pretty stuff which brings back many, many memories. Consider though, these two songs aren't songs that are easy to perform live. Certainly Curtains. Since Elton had a mini choir here, he was able to, much to our UA-cam viewing and listening pleasure. Davey is highlighted here too, on the Captain Fantastic model guitar. Great Stuff. Shows were at MSG and so it was a special event.
I repeatedly listen to the song before going to sleep and when I woke up in the morning. Instead of thinking my husband who I can no longer see him through. I was familiar with the song when I was still in college days and used to sing some lines incorrectly. Hahaha, I got familiar only with the melody. But now I can the song. Thanks EJ
Couple of months ago, I was laying in bed for some reason I was reading about one of Elton John‘s albums. Which made me go farther, which got me to this song, which got me to purchase this song and listen to this song multiple times and just the tightness of the band and the drums and his vocals are just unbelievable probably my favorite song by Elton John
When I was a teenager my beloved Grandpa died. This song helped me get thru losing the first person who passed away that I loved. Years later I lost my Dad. Again, I listened to this song to help me get thru the loss. I was having some hard times dealing with it, and went to a psychic for some closure. She told me a man was showing her a dandelion in his hand. I received my closure.
ELTON JOHN'S ROCKETMAN : Two of my most favorite Elton John songs, that I feel were missing from the movie, (among many others) but these two seem to capture the magical collaboration and relationship that was Elton and Bernie at least for me. I understand they had to appeal to a wider audience and not just diehard Elton fans, and also lay down the possibilities of making this a Broadway musical. All in all was a good time spent in great company of a long awaited movie and my sister. Thanks Susan Roque, they really were the best seats.
the greatest. Nigel is perfect, Davey... fantastic solo, I like very much when he switch the pickup of his Gibson!!! incredible Flute Mellotron sound...
From the first time I cracked the wrapper on "Captain Fantastic" in 1975, this song combo sends chills down my spine. As a pianist, this is one of my favorite Elton tunes to play and sing.

Nigels drums on the 3 masterpieces (Yellow Brick Road, Capt, Caribou) are amazing. How they mic'd his snare drum on those albums was pure genius.

These two songs go together as if they were one song. Some of the greatest rock music of all time never made it to the radio or is known by the masses. This is among Elton's best.

We All Fall In Love Sometimes"
Wise men say
It looks like rain today
It crackled on the speakers
And trickled down the sleepy subway trains
For heavy eyes could hardly hold us
Aching legs that often told us
It's all worth it
We all fall in love sometimes
The full moon's bright
And starlight filled the evening
We wrote it and I played it
Something happened it's so strange this feeling
Naive notions that were childish
Simple tunes that tried to hide it
But when it comes
We all fall in love sometimes
Did we, didn't we, should we couldn't we
I'm not sure `cause sometimes we're so blind
Struggling through the day
When even your best friend says
Don't you find
We all fall in love sometimes
And only passing time
Could kill the boredom we acquired
Running with the losers for a while
But our Empty Sky was filled with laughter
Just before the flood
Painting worried faces with a smile
Genius + excelent + wonderful AND amazing rockstar!!! 🎹🇦🇷🇬🇧
When the line at 6:37 leads into the drums and back up vocals, I get chills. It’s so smooth and probably one of my favorite songs by EJ
My late husband favorite songs..ito lagi niyang inaawit during our bonding times..i miss those tiumes when we were together..wherever u are now u are always in my heart...
Love these songs so much
Kakalungkot naman po.
He never fails to amaze me!!
He's never sounded better. The years have added a richness to his voice. This song is classic and the performance is brilliant.
Captain Fantastic is indeed a great album, although he does have many other great ones (including the follow-up Captain and the Kid from 2006).
beautiful, one of my favorite songs, curtains, actually the whole album too. very well done live version!
I never get tired of these two songs. They sound way better played together than they ever would played separate.
I can’t stop playing this, the ‘togetherness’ of the whole band on this is just stunning, we all know they are always stunning but this STUNNING, love it, love it, love it!
I wish I could've been at this show. This is from probably my favorite album by Elton. Brilliant.
this is simply elton's best song from his best album captain fantastic
a masterpiece
long live EJ
I LOVE YOU MORE THAN EVER
Always thought that Curtains is one of Elton John's best songs ever. Nice to see him doing it in concert.
Very true.

Everytime I'm listening this song i feel empty missing in my heart......
Curtains es pura belleza. Extraordinarios Elton y su banda!!
Sono totalmente d'accordo con te ❣️
I repeatedly listen to the song before going to sleep and when I woke up in the morning. Instead of thinking my husband who I can no longer see him through. I was familiar with the song when I was still in college days and used to sing some lines incorrectly. Hahaha, I got familiar only with the melody. But now I can the song. Thanks EJ
His songs pierce into my heart deeply.A brilliant musician 💜💜
Couple of months ago, I was laying in bed for some reason I was reading about one of Elton John‘s albums. Which made me go farther, which got me to this song, which got me to purchase this song and listen to this song multiple times and just the tightness of the band and the drums and his vocals are just unbelievable probably my favorite song by Elton John
Les plus belles chansons d'elton. Entendu la première fois à 17 ans j'en ai aujourd'hui 60.
Cada dia que passa eu amo mais ainda as músicas do Elton John. Elas, simplesmente, dialogam com meus sentimentos
I love these two songs, especially played together. great way to end an album and a welcome addition to an Elton set-list.
Amazing testimony
Magnificent performance. I cry every time I watch it.
This performance blows me away the power in this man’s voice is incredible ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I'm 74 year old only now I hear this song I really love it ❤❤❤
