I just figured out Francis was only 23 when the show ended, and I gotta say, he’s doing better than everyone I know in their early 20s. This was pre 2008 though, so I guess he’s not doing as well, but from a 2021 perspective he’s absolutely thriving.
I dt understand... If this show is representative of Western middle class....then why not kids focuss on education... In India everybody studies atleast upto 22 years get college degree and decent jobs... What's so hurry???
They should have just had Francis continue working at the ranch, even if they couldn't show the other characters. Just have him show up and talk about what's going on at the ranch. They only had him in like 5 episodes anyway

It was not only out of character for Otto to sue and fire Francis, but Francis went on back to his old ways before season 4, wasting all the character development he achieved while working on the Ranch.

Recently my brother watched breaking bad for the first time, and i watched some episodes with him. After finishing it, we started watching malcolm in the middle and we noticed that Hal and Walter White share a lot of body language.
They could have had Francis taking over the Ranch completely if they couldn't show the other characters again. In fact, they should have had a Piama and Francis spin off!
I love how in the first four seasons of Malcolm in the middle Francis grew up in became a man first he was that the military school he grew a friendship with the leader there then he moved to Alaska to work at some job M and Lloyd became best friends then he met his girlfriend then he really became different and better was season four him and Otto They have like a father and son relationship I wish they ended off something better

That and Otto's actor getting sick and couldn't film anymore, there's not much more they could've done with his character. A lot of people say that he should've taken over the Ranch but my guess is that those parts of the show were too expensive to produce. And with Francis' actor not being available consistently, why spend the money renting out the whole place for an entire season when he'd only be available for like half the episodes? Sad yes, but really I think he ended up where he needed to: Just like Hal, having lived his crazy, exciting life and then settling down with a mundane job with his wife that keeps him in check.

It's sad since Francis had the best development into season 4 with him growing out of his delinquent ways and being a mature adult. One ending in Garage Sale had him comfort Lois with the help of Schlupi and he realized that despite all their fighting, he understood how much she cares about him and only wanted the best for him.

Never got why Francis got fired from his job at the ranch. It was explained something happened offscreen but he seemed to fit in so well at the ranch. And he seemed to have gotten so savvy by then that it doesn't make sense.
Otto's actor was diagnosed with cancer I think and they had to rewrite Francis's story because of that. Although if you ask me, there were other ways they could've handled it apart from undoing Francis's character development.
I hate what they did with francis and piama in the last season. They grew so much in the seasons they lived at the ranch only to have them go back the way in the last one. They should have had them basically turn into hal and louis in the last season..sedttled down with house, bad but stable jobs and a couple of out of control kids, twins maybe. I know they allued to that starting to happening in like the last scene of the last episode but it shuld have been their entire last season story arc.

They become better parents to their two sons and two daughters after learning from Hal and Lois' own mistakes in putting their personal lives over the well being of their children. Visiting home, Francis catches Reese and Malcolm getting rid of a prank that they did when they were younger. He confronts them about it and Dewey explains that it was one of the most horrible things they've done. That all four needs to do in order to give Jamie the best chance of a normal life as a kid. After Hal and Lois leaves the home, the boys got rid of the x-ray of the neighbor's by burning it to the ground. Lois gets a call from Susan who informs her that she gave her last ticket to Ida. She is enraged because she doesn't want to see their mother at her boys' high school graduation. Susan is adamant that Ida goes because she's still resentful over how Lois foiled her chances at death and being with Victor in the afterlife. Therefore, she's returning the favor to Lois by letting Ida go in her place. Reese is trying to come up with a prank for graduation and comes up with nothing. Malcolm decides to come up with something over the top in the final send off. Something that will make Reese proud and no one has ever done. At the graduation ceremony, Malcolm does his acceptance speech. During that time, he and Reese get their diplomas. At the conclusion, Malcolm pushes a button and balloons filled with paint splashes on everyone in attendance. They are all humiliated by this, especially Lois. However, Ida smiles seeing that Malcolm had finally earned her respect in showing her that he is strong in his own right and did something that no one has ever done before. The enraged Lois confronts her two boys for humiliating their family. Malcolm tells her off that she doesn't have to worry about them embarrassing her anymore because they're going to be gone from the house. He's still going to Harvard, but he's going to live his own life away from the family from now on. In the end, Lois is finally happy that Reese and Malcolm are out of the house. Dewey and Jamie are the only boys left in the house. Unlike last time, they're behaving very well. Without the three older boys causing them trouble, Hal and Lois could finally relax. At the school, Reese is working as a janitor when Hodges fires the cook for the poor quality of the meals. While in the cafeteria, Reese throws out the bad food and replaces it with good quality's ones. He starts prepping meals for the kids at school. Reese's cooking skills are impeccable that Hodges tells him that he's going to be the school's cook from now on. He has found his true calling as his former school's chef and is enjoying Herkabe's humiliation as a janitor after losing everything. Malcolm is enjoying the normal life he's living at Harvard. He got himself a part time job working at a company to pay for his tuition. Upon graduation, Malcolm gets a job as a lawyer and and makes life better in helping the less fortunate. While this wasn't the plan Lois wanted, she is proud of him for at least caring about the lower class. Dewey follows Lois' plan and becomes a US president. Working with Congress, he makes sure he puts the interest of the lower class first and makes the wealthy pay their dues.

Piama the Inuit "Eskimo" woman. You KNOW...I think they got the idea for her from Colonel Hartman (The Late R.Lee Ermie) in "Full Metal Jacket." I reference a certain marching cadence. ((-;
Kenneth Mars didn't die at the time. He was intended to return as Otto and have more adventures with Francis on the ranch. One plot was supposed to have him being tricked into putting his money in a false ATM machine. Francis is smart enough to see past it and saves Otto from being scammed thousands of dollars by getting the scammers arrested. The reason for the firing was because Mars was suffering from Pancreatic Cancer in late 2005 and thus he was unable to reprise his role as Otto. Thus, he retired in 2006.

Otherwise, it'll be the last time Francis will see them again.
