The subtle brilliance of Corny is on full display here. So young, but so polished. So precise. He drops a good joke in here. “I’m doing push ups, sit ups, chin ups. I threw up one time but I’m okay now…” then he kept rolling. No pause for the laugh. Cause he’s a heel. He wasn’t telling a joke. That little pipsqueak is proud that he trained so hard he made himself throw up…. To fight a woman. Corny trusts the audience enough to get it and enjoy it without him hanging a sign on it. That’s confidence. That’s how you do comedy.
That's something a lot of modern heels/heel managers today don't understand. They need to occasionally turn around and wink at the audience to make sure everyone "gets the joke".
For those that didn’t know why we listen to Cornette when he explains how to cut a promo and how wrestling SHOULD be in less than 3 mins he gets more heat than all the wrestlers combined on 3 hours of Raw
When the WWE/WWF (Monday night) RAW starts, there is usually a long 20 or 30 minutes promo. Jim Cornette's / Corny, here, is like the 1980's "Micro Machines" guy, "Motormouth" John Moschitta, Jr. from New York/Yawk City
@@TheWarmupLap This program was two hours long, with plenty of interviews to drag things out. Still, it wasn't all interviews with a few matches thrown in as window dressing.

Cornette: "Cause I'm gonna show you that it takes a good man to beat you, but it don't take him long" Sunshine: "Hey, hey if it's gonna take a man to beat me then why don't you bring one with you" I love this promo!
Don't forget David Manning. Since he was a booker, he always made himself a center of attention on camera. Here, he leaves Rick Hazzard to face Sunshine's wrath alone.
Him, Bobby "The Brain" Heenan, "The Fashion Plate" Freddie Blassie, "Rowdy" Roddy Piper, Paul E. Dangerously (Paul Heyman)..... Men like these made Wrestling what it was back then-GREAT!!! Now? Not so much....

Ladies in NWA were overhyped in their hey day if you ask me. They were just eye candy for 1980s knuckle draggers, and had no real impact to promos or storylines.
@@chadzard4 For a joke to make people laugh, they have to play a part, to "get" it. If you say "sold on more street corners," it is like explaining a joke and people don't have anything to put together as the joke.
No... that wasn't acting. She couldn't keep her lines straight but can have that type emotion on cue. The enraged and expressed albeit forcibly controlled aimless walk lol
Modern heels/ heel managers would do well to watch and learn from classic heels like Jim Cornette on how to get heat, make fans absolutely hate you, forget that you're just a performer, and make them foam at the mouth to see you get your comeuppance.
Last time I checked, a heel in wrestling is a bad guy. You don't expect a bad guy to say the nicest things. It's like George Carlin used to say - it's not about language or jokes. it's how they are constructed. if you're a heel, you're not a role model. So if you're trying to censor a heel character, you're a moron, because a heel character is supposed to be a jerk. That's one of the problems with wrestling today - nobody's a true heel - they're just lame, faceless nobody's.
By the way, credit to Marc Lowrance for not saying or doing anything that would have ruined that segment. He very subtly helped get that angle over. He may not have been an elite announcer, but he was underrated in my opinion.
When he was born, and the Doctor smacked his little hind end... I wouldn't have been surprised, if he reached over, and slapped the Doctor... Whilst still hanging upside down! 😜🤪😜🤪

I agree. But If TV shows were 3 hours long then they might have done the same.
