It would be very difficult to hide a manned space program, security agencies launch classified satellites all the time, but those launches are known about, in fact for safety you have to declare when your going to launch. There are places on earth where it would be isolated enough to, in theory launch a rocket without many noticing. But, building a moon base? That would be practically impossible to go unnoticed. See, space for its vastness, is surprisingly impersonal, there is radar tracking of all satellites, the moon and other bodies are under near constant public and private surveillance and there are even satellites orbiting the moon. So a regularly departing and arriving moonship, to say nothing of the base, would be noticed pretty quickly.

NASA and cnn put out footage of years of gov research into ufos a couple years back. Now Mars base, Artemis station on the moon, the Gateway ISS to revolve around the moon, and whatever else will be done. In 2018, both the Voyager drone satellites finally left our solar system. It’s amazing and ominous to know we have as a species finally sent something out that has left our entire solar system. What awaits us next?!

It is hilarious how irrational the captain was... I understand not leaving a man behind, but after he is confirmed to be infected with an unknown contagion, it's over... he's as good as dead anyway after what you saw of the soviets, and there's no point risking the planet for a single man. Not to diminish his importance as a human being, but there's a point where the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, and this has clearly crossed that boundary.

There have been rumors since the 1990’s of a secret moon base operated by the US Air Force that was nuked in 1985. Every few years that rumor pops up in the lesser known corners of society and in the deep and dark alleys of the web. No publicly available evidence including what can be found when you know where to look exists supporting this. However, I wonder from time and again about it. The only thing I have ever been able to find is a heavily redacted report from 1985 that is over 30 pages long. Nothing can me made out from the report as 99% of it is redacted.

    OP, if you read this:
Brevity is the soul of the poet.
You spent way too long explaining why the astronauts wear their space suits while boarding. This could have been accomplished with a throwaway line of dialog. A couple sentences at most.
The explanation of why the Rangers carried weapons during boarding was exactly as egregious. Again. A throwaway line of dialog would have accomplished the same task.
I almost quit listening when there were whole ass minutes spent describing the opening of a hatch.
Between these three chunks of indulgence, there was almost a full quarter of the story. Dragging something out for an extra line can create tension. Dragging something out for ten whole minutes deflates it.
Your story is a lawn, not a beard. You want it neat, clean, and aggressively trimmed.
I want to hear more! Your ideas deserve a good treatment and you can do it! You got so much right here.

Gyrojet weaponry is just about useless in close quarters due to the acceleration of the rounds. Unlike standard smokeless powder maximum velocity is achieved several meters out of the barrel. That's a huge problem in confined areas like... for example, a space station. It's interesting weaponry but ultimately a failure. Ammo misfires were very common, so the jamming was accurate. The M16 had a rough launch in Vietnam but that was nothing compared to the experimental gyrojet weapons. Not too sure why I'm focused on this detail in a story about Army Rangers in space fighting zombie Cosmonauts but hey, everyone finds something that they can't ignore. It was a fun story at least.
