There is a commonly prescribed veterinary drug, Tramadol, which may not be effective. A new study published in JAVMA, concluded: 'Lack of effectiveness of tramadol hydrochloride for the treatment of pain and joint dysfunction in dogs with chronic osteoarthritis'

What if all the natural products are no longer working for the pain. What options are there? Would Galliprant be a better choice when Metacam etc. can't be given because they cause seizure in my 12.5 year old dog?

What do you think about Librela or Adequan?
My dog had a bad CCL tear at 8 years old, fishing line surgical repair. She's been on hip and joint supplements with Omegas since her surgery, she is now almost 13. She still gets around ok, mostly just slow being able to get up. Still takes walks everyday, 1-1½ miles/day. Vet recommended either of the two.

Great videos! Just became a subscriber yesterday and am enjoying learning as much as I can!
I'd never give my pooch tramadol even if my vet prescribed it. My Dr prescribed it for ME for two herniated discs in my neck, and it didn't work worth a damn haha.
I can suck it up and deal with the pain, I'm not about to make one of our dogs do the same though if I can help it.
Thanks again for educating the masses!!

Tramadol side effects include fits. I was put on it and had 12 to 15 fits a day. I would never allow my dogs to have it.
Question; Is it beneficial to give Glucosimine to younger dogs to help prevent joint issues? Thank you : ) My 21 month old Collie is very active and I don't want her to suffer later in life.
Please cn you do a video on dogs getting a dead leg/pins & needles after lying on hard surfaces. I know a quick massage and physio on the effected leg cures it but it can bde alarming to see your dog unable to put its leg down for no obvious reason. Thanks again.

My old dog started having seizures when he was 1 1years old. He's got arthritis too. The vet put him on Tramadol and Metacam and Gabapentin. I always research each medication because I want to try natural remedies first. I told him I will not use Tramadol because of the possibility of a seizure but he said it was fine. Anyway, now my dog is on CBC oil, Taurine, and Gabapentin and he's doing fine. In March he was limping badly all of a sudden so Vet said to give him Metacam. Sure enough, he had a seizure after being free for a year. I stopped it right away. The vet didn't think it was Metacam. It's June now and my old guy hasn't had another seizure since discontinuing this med. I wonder, once he's getting worse and the current meds will not be enough what pain medication will be left for him to give safely. Thanks for sharing your experience with Tramadol.

@@champagnemls My beautiful White German Shepherd boy had bone spurs in his elbows. The Emergency Vet wanted to amputate his front leg without any other option. The Vet said to try a cocktail of meds first. He was on Tramadol, Metacam and Gabapentin for over a year. But he developed side effects, water surrounding his heart and died in May 2021 because of covid restrictions 5 meters in front of the emergency entrance because we couldn't get in fast enough. We came from the Vet who sent us there but it was too late for my sweet boy. He was 11 years old. After that I'm always researching every medication and try to find natural remedies first or the ones with least side effects. But, he was in obvious pain and we had at least one more year with him and he was loving life until his last day. So if it's the only option to help my dogs, I will give them all the meds they need.

QUESTION. Unfortunately I am already spending 1/5th of my tiny fixed income to buy my dogs food. I have had him on the best his whole life. there isnt anything left to be able to consistently buy him these different things. SO I had already figured out to give him Tumeric with some pepper a few years ago and have given it to him religiously all this time. ( I basically give him what works on MY arthritis and so far so good) I add coconut oil, olive oil and blue green algae. All of these things I can buy for him with my food stamps....THE problem is that I basically have had to guess with my gut how much of what...I have been able to find some amounts of certain things here with the Doc ....BUT the Tumeric I am starting to want to know in perhaps tablespoons how much to really give him. He is getting older and I dont have as much confidence in "guessing" ....Anyone can refer me to a video or info from Doc about amounts.? This is the only online vet I totally trust.

My Lady and I both suffer for severe arthritis and I haven’t worked since October last year but worked double time during pandemic and just wore myself out my dog of 16 years My darling dear sweet Maxx died during this time April 2021 . I miss him soooo much. Now is me and Lady her hind legs went out and it extremely difficult to take care of her I’m doing everything I can to get her to walk again I begged her vet for her a round of pedisones steroids. She’s on 3 types of medicine which is doing nothing. What do or did you take to help yourself and dog. Thanks

I forgot to note, Tramadol caused peripheral edema in my lower legs. The doctor thought something was wrong with my heart. After a little research on my own, because I knew the only change was that I started taking Tramado.l you know those paper pamphlets they give you when you get your prescription? Well, clear down at the bottom, "Tramadol should not be taken by women over 60, because it can cause peripheral edema", my doctors didn't even know that!

I don't go to Doctors if at all possible. And, this is one reason for mis trust. Where my Mother was receiving geriatric care, the people would come in with their suitcase full of drugs. Free samples also for the patients. The Docs were all good natured and got patients scheduled every 30 minutes. I never forgot the experience of helping Mom to get to her appts. But, for me NO THANKS

Our 2-yr old Golden Retriever was diagnosed with Immune mediated poly arthritis after ruling out several tick borne diseases and having a joint tap. He was on Rimadyl then Prednisone. He lost muscle tone but gained weight from the steroids but his arthritis symptoms remained. We slowly weaned him off, very very slowly and he was wonderful and back to his puppy self for a year. Now he’s back to limping and barely able to climb up or get his back end up without a struggle. Wondering what your thoughts are? We don’t want to put him back on the drugs but it’s hard to see him acting so old when he’s only 3.

Hi- 1st I would wonder if x-rays of the joints are showing bony changes?..ie cartilage wear and secondary new bone. Regardless, the top 2 options would be 95% curcumin at 100mg/10lbs daily, and Boswellia at 50mg/10lbs daily

I have arthritis in several joints and bad in my knees and all the arthritis medicine did was mess up my stomach to where I couldn't eat without feeling sick and lost a bunch of weight. I take Glucosamine every day but think I'm going to try fish oil and the other supplements you recommended to see if it helps me too. Just Glucosamine isn't helping my pain.

What about CBD oil , does it help with arthritis or pain for dogs? It seemed to help my senior dog a lot before he passed away. The Rick Simpson oil totally cured his leg tumor ( it was identical to the mast cell tumor that killed his litter mate, I wish I'd found out about RSO before he died) The tumor that was treated with RSO completely disappeared & never came back (& it was big) . I wish more studies would go into RSO & CBD oil. Barkley really seemed to like the RSO.
