I waited so long for this to drop in the US and it finally did. My 12 year old cockapoo had her shot last week and is already (!!) showing significant signs of improvement. Doing downward dog stretching which she completely stopped doing for over a year, running towards her ball, jumping down off my bed. This stuff was unheard of, even with gabapentin and meloxicam always on board. Everyone I've spoken to who has their dog on Librela has said it has done wonders. HIGHLY recommend! Holy smokes

@@alexandrac9536 my dog is 14....it's a balancing act as is all late life care...masking pain is dangerous because they can hurt themselves, there might be long term affects but when the alternative is euthanasia sooner than later it's a no brainer. No medication is ever without a cost

Make sure you have a confirmed diagnosis of osteoarthritis before agreeing to this shot. My experience has been terrible. Within 24 hours of the first shot, he lost control of his back legs, has increased thirts, diarrhea, and bowel incontinence and is severely depressed. I wish i could turn back time and refuse it.

I"m so sorry. My dog died within 36 hours of the drug, exhibiting similar symptoms. For those who survive, it takes weeks to clear from the system and is heartbreaking to watch your pet suffer through side effects that are listed only in Canadian package inserts not in U.S.?

I wish I could turn back in time and refuse Librela! I will carry guilt because I didn't had the chance to say goodbye to my loved Tesa because it happened so quick. She was a healthy dog except some arthritis due to her age and I just thought I will help her. I'm absolutely shattered in million pieces. Please don't give it to your dog unless you're 100% informed about the side effects.

My 14 year old Chipin has had two injections so far and will soon have his third. We noticed a significant improvement, especially after the first injection. Shortly before, he wasn't able to use his affected leg at all, but then a few days after the injection he was jumping around on the bed like a little deer. So I can really recommend Librela, even though there's of course never a guarantee (with any drug). I'm curious to see whether the positive effect will last for an even longer period of time, e.g. a year or more.
Some people in the comments seem suspicious of Libreala simply because they don't understand how the drug works. Or they associate the drug with other unrelated health complications. But correlation does not imply causation!
FYI: medications that work in the same way (monoclonal antibodies) are also used to treat people, for osteoarthritis, but also for diseases such as multiple sclerosis and cancer. Drugs are tested extensively before they are approved, both for humans and animals. And if you're not an expert yourself, you shouldn't jump to conclusions about something you don't understand properly.
Maybe Libreala didn't work for your dog and I'm sorry for that. But it's neither "poison" nor "garbage" because of that. Medications do not work the same for every animal, but it is still worth a try because Librela has significantly fewer side effects than conventional painkillers and anti-inflammatory drugs. And at the same time it has a clinically proven effect, in contrast to any “alternative remedies”.
Just talk to your vet and get proper advice instead of listening to people in these comments who really have no knowledge of medicine or pharmacology and will ultimately just make you feel frightened and unsure about what is best for your dog. All the best to you and your dog(s) 😊

I was having a positive experience with Librela 2 months/injections. I felt her back flattened and she was doing brief zoomies again but after the 3rd injection I went on google looking for its contraindications and wow there is a whole community of dog owners who have had Librela tragedies.. Not sure if I'm actually seeing a Neurological decline in her or if I'm imagining it but I think I will take a break and start with Rejenease Glucosamine Extra Strength which my teeth cleaner recommended. It has Glucosamine MSN Chondroitin Hyloronic Acid and Manganese and no sugars or wheats. My 16yo is very finicky so hope she will eat her food with this, if not I can use a needless syringe to administer. If her hunched back returns we may go back on Librela. BYW she is diagnosed with osteoarthritis.

How are the anti bodies supposed to know which nfg to supress and which not to supress. I think they can't. Aren't ngf also important for a lot of neurological stuff? What if you supress these? Librela for me is a last ditch effort, not the first way to go. If every thing else fails or is not possible anymore (due to liver and kidney problems after longterm nsaids).

Exactly, you don't know. My dog was in perfect health - she hesitated going up a flight of stairs so the vet recommended Librela even though he suggested she could have cataracts or other issues that made her hesitant to climb stairs - no diagnosis of osteoarthritis. Within 36 hours of the injection, she was dead. It was the most traumatic, horrific event I've ever witnessed. I wouldn't wish the side effects she experienced on my worst enemy. Use this drug as a last resort if at all. It's not a safe drug and the manufacturer knows this. Canadian package inserts warn of serious adverse reactions that are missing from U.S. inserts. Why?

Yes, it was, thank fully. It has taken from May 21 after the first shot when the ataxia started leading to her not being able to bear weight on her rear legs, until early Sept before she started to walk, she still does fall over sometimes. I did about an hour of physio a day from the end of May till mid Sept, along with at home laser therapy. So yes it is reversable, but work must be put into the dog to keep muscle mass and strength. She was on a very short course of pred in Aug, but it had to be stopped as it caused her liver enzymes to increase ten-fold @@bekanimal Once she was unable to bear weight in May, I did some research and made the decision if she was going to have to live in a wheelchair, and/or inside the house aids I was committed to it, and truly never expectefd her to walk again.

In short, she had the shot, the next day she looked like Bambi, falling in her water bowl, food bowl, all over the place. She would not eat and when the vet came to put her down (not her regular vet) i asked why how this could happen. This vet told me "unfortunately, she sees this frequently" It is not recommended for elderly dogs. DON'T give your elderly dog this poision, Like the big pharma for humans, same goes for dogs.
