One day I'll be mature enough to look at the early Republic map and not giggle. Today is not that day.
Be mature for the Emperor, Grey Knight. Don’t let Slaanesh tempt you.
I was only listening and then when I did look it was that map, threw me off for a sec
Just imagine some map charters not having holgrams or computers, thus forcing them to use their childrens' crayons and paints to make galactic charts and call it a day.
Welp. That explains why it was so strong in it's early days, but became rather limp in it's twilight years.
"This was the expansion era"
Me, looking at the map: haha penis
I love hearing about ancient Star Wars history, it feels like the Silmarillion in space
That's basically what the period from this time period to phantom menace is.
Hell you can call SW (non disney of course as dineys content is trash) middle earth in space.
Jesus Christ is Lord. Please read at least three books of the Bible. The first book of each testament and one you chose yourself. As you do practice forgiveness. It really is important;
A lesser version.. maybe.
I like this period because there’s so much mystery surrounding it. Opportunity for some real character building in the future.
Yeah from what I've heard the high republic will be in between these times and the old republic, so imo it has that same feeling to it, I'm just wondering who the real antagonist would be. The sith were gone for "a thousand years" according to the jedi so who are the bad guys? Lol
Not from Disney
For right now I hope Disney will stay away from the old republic. They have done enough damage.
I like the stories of this period, but I would actually prefer them to just canonize the stories and focus on periods of peace where they can make the antagonist non Jedi. I mean lets face it the best stories from Disney have been Rogue 1, Solo, and Mandalorian. So something set in a period of peace or even during periods when later protagonist weren't part of the known Galaxy so Disney can explore stories without bastardizing legends material.
An interesting movie concept would be for Disney to do a Marvel style story maybe with the SWTOR game. Tell the 8 class stories individually and after that make the most unlikely Star Wars movie by uniting the 4 Republic characters for the Shadow of Revan expansion, the 4 Imperial characters for the Hutt Cartel expansion, and then all 8 characters for the Fallen Empire expansions.
No wonder it was so hard for the Jedi Order to leave the Republic and align themselves as a neutral party. Without the Republic they may have been destroyed by the threats to come and they shared common goals so after years and years of this friendship to leave would be a massive insult on that history.
And just like with the friendship with the Clones, Palpatine exploited the friendship the Jedi had with the Republic to destroy them. Which kind of shows why it worked so well, the last thing the Jedi were expecting were for such truest friends to turn on them, which makes it all the more tragic and horrible.
@@zexalbrony4799 Meh, not sure I would call the Republic such great 'friends' of of the Jedi by that time. I get the feeling the Republic of Palpatine's day was just using the Jedi and stringing them along. Get your point though.
@@englishlady9797 The Jedi Order is in an abusive relationship.
also the republic had no army and Jedi Order what kept the Republic together. Only in clone wars did republic get an army.
@@spark300c But what about the Republic troops in the past such as in the KTOR games and Old Republic? Then the wars against Darth Bane, Exar Kun, the first Sith Wars and such?
That’s pretty damn brutal. And most people called the Jedi heroes
Just a corrupt and blind order, especially at the end of the clone wars
@@geetslys its a shame they lost their way and became a posh judicial force towards the end
Geetsly's that is very true
Darth Revan, isn’t that partially why you found them too weak to survive against Vitiate? They kept getting stuck in their dogma and were too easily swayed to the Dark side?
CJ Hott yeah I could definitely see that. Besides, the Jedi didn’t know their enemy. In order to insure victory, you must know your enemy.
This is why you’re my favorite Star Wars youtuber. The old republic era is awesome
Oh yea big time which is why I’m so surprised we have no core shows or movies set during the old republic like so many stories and major events happened it would be great
The Jedi: “We’re the guardians of peace and justice in the Republic.”
Also the Jedi: “Let’s fight a bunch of wars against ourselves and then eventually try to genocide the entire Sith species to protect the Republic.”
Well it's peaceful if there is no one left to argue.
This is kind of a BS accusation given that the Sith species tried to destroy the Republic and initiated the war. You can thank Naga Sadow for that crap.
@@sithjedi2121 true, but killing entire species because of one corrupt leader isn't justified
@@Adam-nc6qg I get your point but it was a reaction not a plan is my point.
@@sithjedi2121 But the jedi and Republic literally killed the majority of the sith species when they couldn't do anything and the jedi were completely cool about it. I love the jedi but I think the teachings of revan, Qui'gon and Luke (EU Version) were what the jedi should of been.

I dont think the Jedi were evil but borderline fanitical fundementalists.
Darth Treya was right that the Force is evil because it strips people of their humanity, causes suffering and in general is just as nonsensical as religion in real life

Impossible
Honestly, it seems to me that the Jedi were always looking backwards. Those few Jedi looking forward seemed more and more ostracized for it (exposing an otherwise quiet overwhelming fear of the Jedi, the emergence of the dark side). In my personal opinion the Jedi needed to conquer this fear first before agreeing to ally themselves as an order with any other part of the galaxy. Ultimately I believe the "legend" of the Jedi, the perceptually highly advanced civilization, was what kept them from seeing that they were not as ready as many thought (and in fact more in their infancy in many ways).
Further, by not truly overcoming the dark side the Jedi carried it out into the unknown where there was no way to know who was or wasn't going to lose their way. This made the involvement of even isolated Jedi sent on isolated missions a very real gamble.
Between these two points the fear of the dark side and the threat of the unknown the Jedi more often ended up becoming their fears and fighting against one another than they probably ever should have... In a sense, the decision to see their future outside themselves rather than from within themselves ensured that the Schism War (much as the original conflict of the Jedi) would never end... only reincarnate.
Pretty sad we never got a book or comic series on Xendor and the Legions of Lettow. It would have been interesting to see especially if they got the right author to do so.
Pretty sure we would've gotten it without the Disney buy out. We got dawn of the jedi in like the last 2 years before the nuking of the EU and from what they were saying about that era it would've gone over the entire origin of the jedi probably ending at the second great schism with Ajunta pal.
@@Blackdeathgaming-yv1kk Keep in mind that Dawn of the Jedi was supposed to be an ongoing series much like Legacy and Knights of the Old Republic comics were at the time. However it is possible though unlikely that they would have covered Xendor or the Legions of Lettow.
@@JediAcolyte94 I'm not just talking about the comic run, the comic run and novel were a part of a new publishing era called the before the republic era and it had been stated that it would tell the origins of the jedi and the republic. But this was one of the last projects that started before Disney nuked the EU and even the dawn of the jedi series ended up with a rushed ending.
This era is shadow of what it would've been if the EU kept going.
@@Blackdeathgaming-yv1kk The only thing confirmed about that publishing era is that Dawn of the Jedi would have been an ongoing series. There has been no statements by any Lucasfilm employees or authors that would indicate anything more than DotJ. No novels for that era were being worked on or in development. Just Dawn of the Jedi.
@@JediAcolyte94 Tim lebbon has revealed that the plan was for more novels to he released and think for yourself for a moment here. An entire new publishing era for one novel and one comic run? Really? That would absolutely make no sense. Every single other publishing era is pretty damn big.

This is a very interesting part of history
Fighting a few dozen Jedi is a tall enough task to make even the most battle-hardened commanders have doubts, but to fight an entire army of Jedi moving as a single organism to cut down your forces is absolutely terrifying.

With the new high republic literature out I think it would be a great idea to continue this series! while I wait for The Rising Storm I need more Republic history!!!!

Bruh a game set in this era would be raw asf, maybe something similar to a rts where u explore the star wars galaxy and expand the republic and it could end with the great hyperspace war
That would be amazing if they could pull it off.
Eww I don't wanna play as the weak republic.

It would be funny knowing what George Lucas would think about this tales.

Jedi: Have space ships
Also Jedi: Lets use swords.
Jedi being aligned with Republic makes perfect sense. It's powerful organisation that has control of huge amount of space, giving Jedi huge amount of freedom, authority and tools to preserve peace. Sure, Jedi order became too close to Republic, and Republic definitely wasn't that good. But overall, given its size, and it's relatively fair operations compared to most places, I think Republic was the best choice for Jedi.
Honestly I don't think Jedi order would have really worked as neutral party.

Frankly I would really love to know more about the legions of lettow they just sound so cool and though I don’t feel like we know enough about them they seem to have been a great force in their time

Before the dark times. Before the Empire!
Doesn't it make more cence that Tython became uninhabitable is because the Jedi became unbalanced
Exactly. They radically altered the way in which they had been using the Force, upsetting the planetary equilibrium, and that caused massive problems.
A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one.
I like when u use Galen as a zendor
What's the name of the music you used for your old intro on The Front?

Mad lads
This is the sort of thing Disney needs to put into star wars TV and films
Do a kotor trilogy in a time unwritten after the swtor and kotor games but at least happening by the time yoda is born.
Unlimited potential, can have huge battles with Sith and jedi, you can do so much.
Hell, you could even do a game where your reys apprentices apprentice. Do a time after rey has passed. She started a new envisioned jedi order and your her first apprentice's apprentice. That way disney could side step not showing any of the movie characters.

Sir Obi Wan Kenobi, I seek your wisdom.
I find the idea of it being 25000BBY ridiculous 😂 but this is interesting
On the one hand, the Old Republic era had some interesting ideas. For example, the Sith Empire/Order starting out thanks to exiled Jedi meeting, and renaming themselves after, a Sith species. On the other hand, the time scaling is, quite frankly, insane and also leads to events/storylines repeating themselves sometimes. Such as the Jedi losing *two* planets, Tython and Ossus, before moving to Coruscant.

That first courasant map lookin flaccid
With the alliance with the Republic begins the fall of the Jedi Order to share its fate with the Republic
Eh? IIRC it was the Jedi who struck first against Xendor?
It was. Thats kind of an important part of the whole thing. The conflict between light and dark was set into motion by the light side users attacking first leading to the dark users traveling to the Sith home world. They would spend thousands of years trying to overthrow the jedi because they believed the dogmatic philosophy of the jedi was wrong. Heck that's why their code is the opposite of the jedis code
I might just be dumb but.. Coruscant is croissant and alsakan is Alaskan 🤧👀
Sith just want revenge

Holy shit the je'daii kinda look like ninjas lmao
Keep in mind that if the Star Wars galaxy is anything like a regular spiral galaxy, it has existed for hundreds of millions of years MINIMUM before the Jedi. Just image the myriad of Force users and history on a geological level. Even 36,000 years is a blink of an eye to the innumerable shifts in the Force. There must've been forces and events that would've dwarfed what we know, lost in geological history
Look up the Rakata for pre-Jedi force users.

1:15 Why did you have to highlight it in that shape?
That’s cruel
I cant get over the fact people are fighting wars with swords yet they have space travel. I understand in this universe inter-planetary travel was a gift from god-like beings, and at least with lightsaber duels I can suspend my belief by thinking that its practitioners of an ancient religion taking part in ritualistic combat that harnesses their powers through the force. But once you take that away its extremely absurd. Its almost as bad as a mandalorian taking bounties in exchange for some special metal they require for their suits lol, meanwhile flying around in a spacecraft and using laser blasters on missions
To be fair beskar is extremely rare and one of the strongest metals in Star Wars (in addition to being steeped in tradition). It totally makes sense why you would take bounties for such a precious and rare metal as it’s only found on one moon in the mandalorian system and no where else in the galaxy.
The laser swords are slightly stupid but hey it’s their religion and seems to work out for them 99% of the time
Not really, Just for comparison's sake, Mandalorians use Beskar; while in real life Police and others use Kevlar for "bullet-resistant" vests, etc.
Well Star Wars is a fantasy story. People mistake it for scifi though.
In fairness beskar is incredibly culturally important for the Mandalorians and is deeply tied with their peoples’ history and religion to the point saying its weird that a Mandalorian deprived of beskar would take bounties for payment in beskar is like saying its weird a crusader would sack towns in exchange for retrieving lost Christian artefacts
Jesus Christ is Lord. Please read at least three books of the Bible. The first book of each testament and one you chose yourself. As you do practice forgiveness. It really is important. To be forgiven we must forgive.
So their swords were one power forged Herron marked blades.
The dark Jedi were born and then met the Sith.
These are the movies that disney should be making

Could I get a source about Jedi being initially allowed to have families?
the jedi council member lucien draay had both of his parents in the jedi order
