  • Sleep Token’s new video from their new fully released album “Take Me Back to Eden” is finally out now - I’ve been anticipating this for a while after listening to the singles that were released.
    The only con was the ending - Sleep Token is in it’s own genre - point blank!
    Join me in watching the video! I would love to get your hot takes on the video as well as insight on the video/symbolism as well as thoughts on the track that just dropped today as well!

    I like how you called out the metal elitist or "gatekeepers" as you put it. Metal is way more diverse the the gatekeepers like to say.

      Yes! Metal can be whatever we want it to be to be honest and creativity should be encouraged - then more people might be interested to explore the genre more. It is for everyone 🫰🏾

      I’m 51 and wasted my 20s and 30s doing that! I missed out on a lot of great music! I’m making up for it now! 🙂

    Before you listen to Euclid the last track on the album. You need to her the 3 albums in entirely. This is a trilogy and the song will hit so much harder with all of the call backs to previous songs and even before Sleep Token. It will make you ugly cry if you leave it till last. Peace love and Worship.

    The common lore would be vessel asking for a the deity “sleep” to show him it to take him back to a time where he was happier and things where simple and easy as he thinks he has lost his way and can’t get back
    Some could see it as a false idol or even him following death itself (this could relate to the character)
    All of this is purely subjective viewing it as a form of transformation or rebirth of life also feels appropriate
    The following song on the album (Euclid) really hits it home

      I really need to sit and listen to Euclid in depth - I heard it the first time and was really enjoying it but it has definitely taken a back seat for me compared to the other songs.
      Thanks for that insight and explanation for TMBTE- I love it 👍🏾

    Love your reaction, I wish you much love with your channel. You really do a great job, you go, girl. I subbed 🫶
    Yes, Vessel loves to pull you in & then end the songs with wanting more. Pure genius.
    Read the Lore of Sleep Token it will help you to understand more about the full picture.
    I jumped on the ST Train just a little over a month ago,
    and lovin' the journey.
    Vessel's vocals are mesmerizing.
    He does all the lyrics & music production, except drums. His drummer, known as ii (2), is phenomenal.
    His drum solo "ST Hypnosis, an offering from ii " leaves me in awe!!

    2:02 I mean...metal is 100% certainly a genre in and of itself, but the question that Sleep Token poses is more so "What is GENRE?" They are living proof that you shouldn't categorize music into a single genre and not be afraid to break the mold. As Vessel, the lead singer said in his ONLY interview ever back in 2017: "Life is dark, life is bright. Life is ugly, life is beautiful. Don't get lost in genres, they'll only disorientate you. Music is music." Because that's what this is. Pure, unfiltered, unadulterated artful MUSIC. And that's all there is to know.

      The beauty of multiplicity! Why build doors when we can open windows - I fully agree!

    The biblical themes and icons all nicely represent moments in time and snapshots of impactful people in one's life. They're all things we can all recognise, like seeing people as angels or paragons in times of innocence, or the substance that knowledge, and necessarily pain, brings to one's character. Also, the dissonance that plays out in our minds amidst the fight b/w fantasies (maintained by our vices) and reality. We can all take from it what we want, as there are pearls of wisdom there, which are not always obvious, even though they seem to be.

    I love how diverse Sleep Token is. Not just musically, or genre wise. But also lyrically.
    Most lyrics are relation based, at least that's the easiest interpretation. But ever since i had the thougjt of, what if they are all metaphors for himself? He talks to a lover, and some songs truly is talking about a lover. But the other half can be replaced with an inner monologue, talking to the different parts of himself that he hates, loves, hurts etc. For example, DYWTYLM. Clearly is asking himself that question. He talks about his refelection not smiling back at him. You can hear this theme in other songs and off the other albums as well.

    • @Smithysmithin
      @Smithysmithin 11 місяців тому +1

      But the best part is that while telling a clear story, he manages to write the lyrics vague enough to give every fan a chance to interpret for themselves what they take away from the lyrics.

      @@Smithysmithin Artistic talent! I love when people can think a song is about one thing but there’s potential for a whole different interpretation. They’re very skilled when it comes to song writing 👍🏾

    I feel like the beginning is him feeling sorrow about how we've evolved.
    When I hear the nature sounds in the first segment of the song along with the "crystal waters, perfect oceans." The “no one told me not to breathe” line could relate to heavy air pollution.
    We've destroyed so much natural beauty in such a short amount of time. Micro Plastics, fossil fuels, chemical farming, heavy metal mining ect ect. It's almost like he's pleading with his maker in the first segment.
    But by the end of the song it’s almost like he's demanding to go back, with the heavy rifts. It's a very hopeless feeling knowing the irreversible damage we've done.

    • @Hoganply
      @Hoganply 11 місяців тому

      I interpret it more broadly; that a lack of wisdom can lead one to be consumed by the superficially awesome/beautiful.

    What I like in Sleep Token is that yes, metal bands often take influences from wide range of genres, but... it's still people deep in metal genre picking stuff into it.
    In Sleep Token it's inversed. We have a person well out of metal, or even rock, building on their expertise and then bringing in elements from all kinds of modern music, including metal.
    Vessel manages sometimes to be metal as hell without *any* elements that would actually be metal. Like the Bloot Sport (from room below).
    Refreshing!

    I’m not a fan of shoving music into categories to begin with. Lots of bands in every genre get ignored and don’t succeed because they don’t match the expectations of that genre. Sleep token are a band that play music period.

    • @Rivoltasata
      @Rivoltasata  10 місяців тому

      Yeah definitely agreed! Enjoy music cause you enjoy it, not because it doesn’t fit into your idea of what the genre is meant to be!
