This was when the Haunt was THE HAUNT! Great mazes, Elvira, 'Peek-ins', side shows, the Hanging Of The Witch the way it should be and so much more. Now... the Knott family has sold out, there are unruly crowds, the prices are idiotic, the hanging of the witch is a joke (and way too suggestive and dirty for kids), and ...the main entrance hasn't even been decorated in YEARS. If you went to Haunt during the 70's or 80's, count yourself lucky because it is a nothing like that now. In fact, it's unrecognizable. Thanks for this video, Mike! Nice post!
I’ve never been because I live on the opposite coast but I can tell from newer videos that it is totally different. It’s a shame how everything gets so heavily produced in modern times, it actually takes away from scare factor and atmosphere
These were the best years of the Haunt. Case in point, the Shack was used as a maze. You would be in rooms where the gravity/slope would pull you down to the actors. No escape!
OMG! This IS from way back when!! This is the one year that I worked Haunt! I was in the "pot room" of Calico's maze. You KNOW this is old cause Elvira was working, the Gasoline Alley (aka Soapbox Racers) still existed, the Haunted Shack still existed, the parachutes & the tower!..... OMG! This was such a blast from the past!! Thank you!
My parents started going to the Haunt in '89, they missed the next year cause I was born a week before opening weekend, but they have been going ever since. They started taking me when I turned 13, I remember it being about (all together for three people) $91.
@TheMutePlagueDoctor The haunt banner says "17th Annual," and Haunt started in 1973. If you're talking about the "Ghost Town" sign, it actually reads "1895." It's always been there.
Oh, I was close though. Anyway, I wished that other people had recorded the full walkthrough of Lair (yes, lair, not lore) of the Vampyre 1991 haunted house. This house was very popular.

What was the calico mine ride overlay in 1989?
I believe it was called “Threshold of Doom,” and it was a fairly generic overlay.

That's the old looping coaster, The Corkscrew, as they were dismantling it to make way for Boomerang (among other new rides).
