- How To Target Groupers Slow Pitch Jigging Port St. Lucie
Will Chris and Johnny took a ride from Pompano Beach (Hillsboro Inlet) up to Port St. Lucie for a slow pitch jigging adventure in search of groupers. They face heavy current conditions that force them to make some adjustments while slow pitch jigging. The trip was a success and the groupers were chewing.

Glad you included SPJ instruction. Too many videos just show guys reeling in fish and that has become boring to me when I am interested in the how-to-jig-better. Good job Jonny Jigs.
Thanks Bill... We enjoy teaching.
Big shout out to Pete for setting me up with my first slow pitch set up today at the shop! Im heading back home (Big Pine Key) and hoping to get her bent ASAP! Great Video as always. Hope to catch up with Johnny and Chris next time I’m off the rock.

Awesome video guys, big Will getting tight! JIG ON.
Thanks Molerio.........Jig On!!
That flat black is my secret weapon against grouper! Just ordered a couple more 300gs. Can't wait to get back to the store next time I'm in SF.
Thanks Chris...We are giving the Flat Back a little makeover..keep an eye out for it coming soon.
So I'm based out of Tampa, fishing in 30-80 ft of water. What weight would you recommend?
I would go 40 -80g.

Cool
You guys are awesome, love the content and tips. How tight are you setting your drag if your just using the reel to fight the fish?
Thank you Casey....We set our drags approximately 10-12 pounds at strike position.
@@JohnnyJigsTV great to know. Thanks again! Keep up the great content!
Hey guys so I just preordered the temple reef g1 slow pitch rod and I’m thinking of ordering a daiwa saltiga ld 10h for the rod, what pound braid should I use if in fishing in 100-170 feet of water ?
40
Would love to fish with you guys
How do you guys find your numbers? Your finder looked like flat bottom which i thought was strange. I’m out of PSL as well so this vid was super helpful. Thanks guys!
Nothing like time on the water. We spend countless hours watching the depth finder and looking for structure.
usually anglers will pump the rod harder and excited to see their rod bend..lol
What was the water depth you guys went to for the groupers in soflo?
And
Where you guys down directly off of hillsboro/deerfield area? Or did you go up to port st lucie like video title?
Do you ever deploy multiple drift anchors?
Hey Matt..only one for us.
How deep were you guys fishing?
How deep were you guys fishing? Do you ever spot lock or always drift
Hey Jason, We were between 200-400. Spot lock will work but it is way more effective on a drift being that you cover more area.
What boat are you guys fishing in?
Dusky 278 tournament edition with twin 200 mercury
So what are y’all doing to target grouper specifically? Seems like normal deep jigging SPJ style
Hey Nino, There is a few tactics we spoke about in the video. One being controlling your drift speed in order to stay vertical. Also we talked a bit about technique. If you get a chance take a look at the part Johnny is talking about copying Will. We will go in depth more on groupers in the future. We are fishing structure and hard bottom that groupers generally live on and we are also keeping our jigs super tight to the bottom in order to avoid bycatch as much as possible and keeping the jig in the groupers strike zone. Keep in mind we made a long run to a fishery known for grouper as well. Thanks for taking the time to comment and watching our channel. Hope this was Helpful..
@@JohnnyJigsTV yes, your explanation was very helpful.
How many mile your dock to offshore ocean ?
Around 1 mile if I had to guess
@@JohnnyJigsTV i though 30 to 40 mile away to deep sea? U say one mile???
One mile to the inlet another 2 long miles to 300'...East coast SoFlo...🤙🤙
way to just throw ciggs in the ocean when you get hooked up..cmon! Nice fishing tho and video
Yup...we told him...you are right not cool!!
Agreed
