  • In this video I will show how to replace the inline fuel filter on a Kubota diesel engine. These filters come on a lot of different Kubota models like lawn mowers, and BX compact tractors. 3-cylinder diesel engines. The fuel filter is an in-line type, and when they become clogged, there will be a loss of fuel pressure, and this will cause fuel problems that needs repair. The machine won't start, losses power, bogs, misses, and also shuts off. The fuel pump moves diesel fuel from the fuel tank and threw the primary & secondary filters, to the injection pump then to the motor's injectors. The equipment I'm replacing the in-line fuel filter on in this video will be a 2001 ZD21 zero turn lawn mower. The ZD28, ZD25 & ZD18 has the same 2 filter setup along with other ZD models, lawn tractors, and front mowers. Oem Part# 12581-43012 is the original filters. The ZD series mowers are one the best I have ever ran.

Awesome, I think the service interval is 400 hrs, I've seen them go longer. Depends on how clean the diesel is and how good its filtered at the pump.

If that doesn't do the trick, check for obstructions in the fuel pickup tube in the fuel tank and in the fuel line from the pickup tube to the first fuel filter. Despite being careful to keep debris out of the tank, I found a "glob of goo" in the fuel pickup tube.

Been there also. Think most of the stuff that gets in the first filter is from residue that's stuck or has built up in the bottom of the tank over the years.
