Bach's Cello suites are very difficult to enjoy especially during daytime because it used to change my mood. So I preferred to enjoy it after office hours when I was staying alone because of employment. The case in point is suite No.1.This is going to touch the mind of even people who dislike music. Excellent rendition and a perfect compilation of my favourite music. Thanks Brilliant Classics.
Well ... not an average interpretation that's for sure. He plays a "violincello piccolo" as opposed to a regular cello. He adds ornamentation. He does unusual things with phrasing and emphasis. These things are a matter of personal taste. You might love it. I enjoyed it as a change of pace. But this recording will never be my first choice when in the mood for the cello suites. The recording quality is quite good and there's a whole additional hour of cello goodies at the end. I'm glad Sollima and Brilliant did this.
@ Yes. Bach called for the violin piccolo on other compositions but didn't specify for the cello suites. Maybe that's what he had in mind idk but I prefer the regular cello.
@@warrenj3204 Have you heard about the shoulder cello, kind of ? Also, someone say that one of these Suites, don't remember which one, was to be played with cello Piccolo in order to get the higher notes.
@@Daniel.W.Bridge There's the "Cello da spalla" but I'm a bit confused as to what's what. It appears one is held against the shoulder as you suggest (and the album cover backs this up) and the other is held more like a guitar apparently? I'm not sure.
Their not all supposed to be fast light-hearted dances. Not rococo or French Baroque with so many ornamentations. Next time - play it twice as fast and on drums, while dancing naked on a skateboard.
He BUTCHERED a classic! I want to hear Bach not Bullshit! Ad-libs, variants, alterations and alternative voicings are an inability to perform to set standards an attempt to get by with it as though it were intended ! Very distracting when you KNOW the music!
Médiocre... interprétation vraiment médiocre...quand on connait celle de Rostropovitch... idem quant à cette tentative de vouloir nous infliger tous ces "musiciens de 3eme démarque " au milieu des oeuvres de Bach...
You didn't listen to more than an hour of it tops. You chimed in with this comment one hour after the video was posted. My guess is you sampled snippets for 10-12 minutes and then declared it "mediocre".

Our Humans lives are fleeting, less than100years.
However,
Bach‘s music has an eternal life, and popularity and attraction and impression
One can't go wrong with Lord Bach. ♥

So it's a period instrument, isn't it ?
