I think citizens want civilisation to end. We have a major party that is in favor of guns, in favor of childhood diseases, in favor of inflation, and opposed to the environment. Their candidate most memorably talks about eating pets, injecting people with bleach, and controlling hurricanes with a Sharpie. I don't see any suggestion of “improve the economy” in that list, and the talk of immigration on the Right is not about lawful and measured, it's about destroying the moral and economic fabric of society with mass detention and deportation.
You are right. Immigration must be lawful. Who would just open their front door to anyone on the street and allow strangers to just do what they like in their home?! It's common sense. If any individual wouldn't want that lawless in their own home or neighborhood, why should it be allowed with our country's borders? During democratic convention there were barriers put up all over the place. They aren't that keen for this at the border. The Biden admin likes to blame the state of the borders on the Republicans, but it was he that opened it wide. And when there was a outcry by citizens, he decided to take the problem to Congress for political stalling. He opened the borders, he has the power to close it. The democratic leadership is trying to create a new voting population.
First, put aside the fact this nation wasn't started on that premise of "legally and orderly" it was messy and bloody. Second the average citizen doesn't understand immigration and what it takes. Third these people at the border are seeking asylum from decades of US foreign policy and when you can understand that then rhis chaos will end and only then.
The biggest problem is when people cannot recognize when they are being manipulated. This includes advertising, social media, politicians, religion etc... Teach and practice critical thinking.
The manipulation is in large corporations raising prices and blaming inflation and making record profits. Most elections is only oil companies. Now as grocery stores have merged they are doing it too.

Voting for a "want to be dictator" and convicted felon, Trump? I question that's what Jesus has planned for you. I suggest you watch all media outlets with tolerance (and you will need a lot of that, I do) and try to make decisions based in fact not on what the media tells you. They just tell you where to start looking. Listen to your heart and the decisions Christ wants you to make...I will pray Jesus shows you what he wants for you.
Tariffs in the long run merely favor aa chosen few. Herbert Hoover & Trump are much alike--- they push TARRIFS WHICH COST EVERYONE in he long run--- and spur inflation--- ask any economist!
I generally agree with this (may have to dig a little to confirm the 50% number), but have to ask: Would you rather have the prices continue to increase at 9% inflation or the most recently reported 2.5% inflation rate? Yes, prices are higher, but give credit where credit is due when it comes to slowing the rate of increase. Aside from the 2008 housing crash where home prices tanked, I can't think of many-if any-years where prices this year were lower than previous years. And I would not want another 2008-like crash just to lower prices.
But prices never fall--not to the level at which they once stood. Prices slowly but constantly ratchet up. And whatever happened to the Republican rugged individualism? At one time in the recent past, they would have told people, "Need more money? Get a better job!" Now they wallow in victimhood: "Boo hoo, prices are higher! Everyone's to blame except ME!"
@@1958zed We all know that prices go up somewhat every year. But hey, from 1.4% under Trump to 9+% is not working for me and doesn't work for most of us. I don't care that the rate of increase is slowed; it should never have gone that high in the first place. It's like a store marking up a product and then putting it on sale at a regular price and pretending they give you a bargain. Nuts to that con job!
On paper the economy is great. On the street we are all broke as hell. Seems to me that's the serious issue. Why 80% of the population is in recession and 20% are in a booming economy.
Since Reagan and his cadre instituted trickle down economics, there has been a steady rise in economic inequality in this country. At this point we are at the highest level of inequality since the Gilded Age and the robber barons. They constantly talk in D.C. about being broke, but there's actually more money in the U.S. than ever before. It's just that most people don't see it, only the wealthy get richer.
Inflation isn't measured by the selling price of common consumables. Those are the absolute last effects of inflation. If the inflation rate instantly dropped to it's absolute negative equivalent, it would still take months for prices to drop. I's possible to have very low inflation, yet still be more expensive than a recent high inflation level price environment. So he's technically accurate, but not qualitatively accurate, in my opinion. I agree with your feeling about high prices.
Every comment I read took offense with this message, particularly a lower rate of inflation. It's surprised me as Fareed might be the only one at CNN with critical thinking and morals. It seems a message that polling might be well off here.

Yes, that indicates a problem. This is very like the problem that Trump twice admitted that he lost the 2020 election, and it had ZERO effect on his popularity. Thus, broadcast journalists are obliged to tell their viewers that “Trump lost the 2020 election.” Such is the cult effect of the Dear Leader.
Agreed. And the specific problem here is that the economy is much better than Republicans say it is. Most Republicans believe unemployment is worse now than under Trump. Most Republicans also believe crime is worse than it was under Trump. These beliefs are the opposite of the facts.
THIS ADMINISTRATION CREATED THAT INFLATION!! And the HORRIBLE IMMIGRATION PROBLEM. Your broadcast is repulsive to the everyday person looking at grocery store prices! And for those who live in boarder states and KNOW WHAT IS HAPPENING.
@@joachimfrank4134 So that damage that is done, is done. Spinning that as a win because "no recession" is a stretch. How can there be a recession if the prices are so high? There is much less exchange of goods, it only seems like it's not a recession because the amount of money exchanged is stable or rising, due to inflation.
When supply chains (largely stopped by wars or epidemics) are broken, then too much cash chases TOO FEW GOODS-- and the result s soaring inflation. We have some inflation, so Fareed is WRONG saying we have none!
Your bank account is happier than it would have been in ANY other developed country's economy. The worldwide spike in inflation due to a) COVID, followed by b) Russia's invasion of Ukraine, was smaller and shorter in the U.S.A. than it was anywhere else. The obvious conclusion is that our government's approach to the fallout was by far the best handling of any developed country in the world. So, consider yourself educated now.
@fluxrider7027 Exactly. Thank you. The constant complaining will not be solved by a republican. Democrats historically have been the party that takes care of the people and Republicans are for big business. The prices that went up during covid have not all come back down. Trump wants to give even more tax cuts to the wealthy, big business and oil, which already post record profits. They will go to shareholders, not trickle down to us. That lost revenue has to come from somewhere. Trump's tariffs will raise prices on imports by 10-20%. As goods enter the US, import tariffs are charged. Tariffs go to the govt but WE pay them in the form of higher prices. Those countries in turn will impose tariffs on our exports, bringing those prices up. Trump doesn't seem to understand this. He is now desperately saying that overtime will be tax free. That is doubtful. Social security is already only partially taxed if your income is at high levels. One of the biggest losses could be affordable health care, which Republicans have tried to repeal since Obamacare was passed. In that case, the people here complaining about their finances will be one health crisis away from medical poverty. People should understand that things could be much worse. If people want more to spend, they should stop buying all the stuff coming from China for a while and save for what they need. It has always been this way. With that said, Harris is offering large tax breaks for new small businesses, $ 6000 tax credit for newborns.and protection of our health care system (Obamacare).

This is the greatest country in the world because if you work hard, determined, and a never giving attitude, you can build a better life. We're a country of immigrants but we have to allow people in legally. If we continued allowing an open border, soon we won't have a country.
We don't have an open border, and in so far as we do it's because Trump demanded it remain open through the election so that he can run on the issue. Trump is against legal immigration as well.
multiple things can be true. If you have a retirement account, like a 401k, I would be the house it is up big this year. But that doesn't mean that you still won't see the effects of inflation and price gouging on prices.

THERE WERE 12 LITTLE GIRLS AND TWO DANCE INSTRUCTORS THAT GOT STABBED IN ENGLAND. Three little girls died and that's when the people in Great Britain absolutely had it. There have been stabbings and stuff going on from the radical Muslim population (not all but the ones with the mass migration) & and they were doing all kinds of studies here and there but this was the worst because it affected little children and and most numerous. they took out to the streets to protest and all they were doing was cursing and yelling and the government would not do anything hardly do these people and they pamper immigrants and of course the British citizens pay their welfare just like we pay the welfare for all the 30 or 40 million immigrants we have here.. granted probably 15 or 20 maybe come into the United States and work and the majority of them do not and they know they can come here and get a free ride but they could not until 1996 or 1997 and then they started allowing migrants to have welfare and SSI.

Mass immigration is extreme crony capitalism. During my career I interacted with many corporations throughout the United States. I met people who told me “My grandfather and father worked here for many years. They retired with pensions that enabled them to retire comfortably. Now my job here is gone. It has been exported to another country.” I heard this story over and over. I have seen cities that were thriving become ghost towns. Some call them deplorables. Our country is divided into the haves and have nots. For some the economy is not bad, for others it is terrible. The left has abandoned a significant part of the population they once supported. Yes, open borders is a factor but it stems from a much greater problem.
Sounds right. My grandfather worked his entire career as a counter clerk in the hardware store of a little town in Louisiana. That town is still less than seven thousand citizens! He and my grandmother bought a house on the river, raised a son and two daughters, retired and grew old. On the wages of a hardware store clerk in a very small town. (You know, thinking back about it, I am remembering that he walked to work and probably never needed a car. That must have helped.)

It's really quite simple. Improve the living standards of the working class instead of allowing the monied elite to run away with all the cash, and the working class will no longer care about immigrants. The problem is, and always has been, economic. Until governments have the guts to stand up to the global business elite, we are destined to fascism.
It's not that simple. What you express is an attempt at egalitarianism. Instead, would it not be better for the working class to also have a path to financial independence for their hard work and talents, to include becoming a millionaire or even a billionaire? Oprah Winfrey, for example, has provided significant value and inspiration to her many viewers and has likewise poured millions back into the economy. One might consider her part of the monied elite. Should she be beat back down into the working class? Instead of the approach you recommend, I would recommend focusing on policies which ensure the opportunity for everyone to become wealthy based on their merit (hard work and/or talent) rather than attempting to push those who rise to the top back down (meritocracy vs. egalitarianism). And if you really want to get into economic theory, the truly devious way the rich keep getting richer while the poor keep getting poorer is that our current debt-based economic system rewards the rich who borrow money to buy assets (which are virtually guaranteed to rise in value with inflation) more than those who must save money to buy assets (and often get priced out before they are able to do so, as we saw for the past several years). What exactly does standing up to global business elites even mean? It would be far more effective to reestablish an economic system based on a stable currency backed by something like gold, for example, like we had before Nixon took us off the gold standard.
Its all tied together. The rich will just move around whatever restrictions you put on them and losing them to other countries is detrimental. Some of these mega corporations like Amazon "outsources" workers by contracting a sister company's employees... which happen to be illegals. Americans factory workers are getting replaced at a lower wage. The new hire hourly wage I started at 4 years ago, is 3 dollars lower right now... The demographic of people has completely flipped. You walk around town and you don't see this diverse group of people anywhere... They're getting bussed to work. I don't have a problem with the diversity, but I'm just pointing to the ways that this impacts American people. I dont work there anymore but this is a real personal experience.
Except the working class has had their standard of living go way down lately and the Democrats are ignoring them and even insulting them. And they wonder why we're supporting Trump. He certainly did more for us.

Inflation refers to the increase in prices. Once prices stabilize, inflation is no longer a problem. Prices may never go down anytime soon, however, especially across the board. If we have another recession, prices will go down.
@@bigverybadtomno, that is the literal definition of inflation, its the rate of devaluation of your currency, and thus an increase of prices. Its measured year by year. I am neither Dem nor Rep. But the economy is not strong. - Inflation boomed because of massive government/Fed spending during Covid. The government still is running ridiculous deficits and the Fed balance sheet is over 7 trillion. - The GDP growth rate is still barely adequate at 3.1% (it averaged well over 4% during Clinton's term for example and he/Congress semi-balanced the budgets). - The stock and real estate markets are still being powered by cheap money. The latter making home ownership difficult for the middle class and rents difficult for the middle/lower classes. - Forget the U-3 (unemployment rate). It is a joke. If only one American had a job and every other American did not, wanted one but had given up looking? The official U-3 rate would be 0.0%. Look at the employment:population ratio. It is much more accurate (though not perfect). And it has never recovered to it's pre-Great Recession rate. The rich are getting richer, the poor are growing in numbers and the middle class are drowning in debt. Not to mention the national deficit skyrocketing. America's (and much of the world's) economy is a mess. Trading cheap money for fake prosperity. And both parties are to blame. Yes, immigration is part of the problem. But the main problem is the government/central banks 'printing' huge amounts of money, bankrolling the wealthy and doing nothing for the rest but offering relatively cheap credit and more handouts that do little but put a bandage on the problem. The government must lower it's out-of-control spending. And - more importantly - the Fed's 'full employment mandate' musts be repealed so they cannot create trillions of dollars to prop up their wealthy buddies. ☮

She said in an interview when asked about her lies in a previous debate "it was a debate, a DEBATE" and did her famous cackle as she said it. She has absolutely no qualms about lying to get what she wants. She's the quentessential swamp rat.
Harris is a dyed-in-the-wool California leftist, always has been, still is, and will be if she ever reaches the White House. BEWARE, she is not what she seems and has been instructed to stay deliberately vague about her policies because if people knew just how leftist she is they wouldn't vote for her. She will do and say anything she has to for the sake of power. BEWARE!!!
As a left leaner, I would agree that the changes in stance are her biggest campaign weakness. My sense is that her political stances have evolved over her time as VP, to something more centrist and practical, as opposed to ideological. I believe she would do better to simply say that she has learned during that time, and is now pursuing the possible rather than the dream.
Couldn't the Democrats come up with an intelligent candidate for president? What an embarrassment for the USA. CNN, MSNBC and ABC are responsible for this mess.
It is simply irresponsible to talk about the buoyancy of far-right xenophobia without talking about the disinformation and misinformation that drive it.
I'm an American living in Japan. My Trumpster sister and dad just came to visit me. Their biggest issue was illegal immigrants. I'm a retired immigration attorney and tried to explained the law to them and tell them most of these people aren't getting welfare benefits but are getting jobs that most Americans wouldn't do. (They did admit that the Haitian immigrants were working and the story from trump were false). trump to them is like a god, a cult, and no argument or reasoning will dislodge their support of him. I believe trump will win the election due to interference in polling stations in states like Georgia and Arizona.
Inflation isn't the result of consumer spending. It comes by government overspending and printing money they don't have which decreases the value of the dollar.
As a non American We can see how Americans citizens are suffering High taxes Massive unemployment Inflation Drug abuse Hungry people We are praying 🙏 that You voters will vote for Trump For America and the free world God bless you all
As a European, i can assure you that everything is relative. Here in France, taxes are WAAAAAAAY higher Unemployment is also higher Inflation about the same Drug abuse very bad, but not on the society-destroying level of the USA Probably not as high a percentage of hungry people, but hard to measure.
Bot. Our taxes aren't high. Our inflation is lower than other countries. Unemployment is *really low* Most Americans are way too fat for hunger to be much of an issue. Trump would make any issues we have, like *climate change*, much worse, just like he did last time he was in office. Fuck off.
The gap between the haves and the have-nots grew too fast and too furiously for too long. That it is now increasing at a less furious pace is no solace to the have-nots. The pricey, consumerist lifestyle flouted by the haves remains out of reach of the have-nots. Not everyone can be a Wall Street lawyer, venture capitalist, chief neurosurgeon, or IT whiz kid. Normal jobs too often don't pay enough for folks to make ends meet.
"The economy is great." "Unemployment is at its lowest level ever." Inflation is almost nonexistent." "The race is an absolute toss-up." You guys are funny! I give CNN roughly 1 more year of existence. Truth is so popular these days.
Instead of obfuscating with a ridiculous prediction. Why not put some substance forward to support your claim that CNN is lying. The only thing I disagree with is the race is a toss up. People are tired of Trump and his incoherent rants. He will go down hard and we will be rid of him once and for all. I base my prediction on Harris’ quick rise in the polls.

Trump destroyed the economy by not dealing with covid quickly.
Yeah, I do not agree that failure to deal with immigration is the common denominator in the rise of fascism. The 1930's rise in fascism was preceded by crippling debt imposed by the winners of WWI. There was runaway inflation in the midst of a global depression. The economic conditions were absolutely terrible. The genius of the Marshall Plan was to undo this understandable but ultimately harmful economics of punishment and vengeance, and actually support strong economic development in Germany and Japan in particular. But this fascist vote takes place in formerly East Germany which was freed from the Soviet Union in 1989. What was the dominant economic model in 1989? Neoliberal "Free Market" economics. Keep wages low and allow the elite to get all the benefits. There is still a marked difference between East and West Germany as far as I understand. Correct me if I am wrong and enlightened German leadership poured money into East Germany to make sure the citizens would get high wages and low interest loans for decent, affordable housing. It's not as bad as the 1930's today, but we are at the tail end of 60 years of neoliberal economics across the globe. That's the common denominator. The winners in the game of economics take 99% of the prizes, while the average citizen is told to fight over the scraps. We are told how great the economy is, but for example, in the US, wages are stagnant, education means loans that amount to indentured servitude, and homes are unaffordable while corporations and foreign capitalist billionaires are allowed to vacuum up real estate for endless rental income. And then we are told immigrants are the problem to hide the reality that the wealthy are getting all the rewards of the astounding boom in economic productivity. To say that it is actually immigration is ultimately right wing, neoliberal economics ideology that should be considered thoroughly debunked as of 2007. I guess Fareed Zakaria has a job on TV because this is the way he actually thinks. He has faithfully absorbed the neoliberal mindset as if it is reality. In some ways, these guys are worse than Fox News, because they are intelligent and well meaning while essentially leading us all on the same path to fascism. Like a pack of Neville Chamberlains.
You know, I can accept the fact that there are right-wing populists in our population. This is America, and EVERY American citizen has a right to make themselves heard and to know that their voice is at least heard and considered. That's the BEDROCK of our nation, and one of the biggest problems I've had with the left in years past has been their tendency to try to "shame into silence" large segments of their opposition. What I cannot abide, though, is disregard for our political process and the recent tendency there has been to try to "win at any cost." That's not how America is supposed to work. We have elections. We vote. And then we ABIDE BY THE RESULTS. Anyone - ANYONE who opposes that simple formula is my enemy. My nation and its cultural customs and processes - those things matter to me more than any particular policy issue. I never thought I'd see the day when I had to VOTE based on that criterion, because I thought it would always be the case that both parties embraced those ideals. But recent times have given me strong cause for concern, and that is what will determine my vote.
"shame into silence" ? You mean openly attacking the poor, minorities, women, the press, immigrants, teachers, etc., meanwhile supporting neo-Nazis terrorists ?
When any faction thinks it can take your civil liberties away from you because they think they know better, want to force you behave in a certain way, or just out of sheer greed - then we are in trouble, and it is every citizen's duty to speak up. And the most effective way to do this at present is to vote blue across the ballot, even if you don't like everything that candidate is for. We may not be able to stop them from trying to gerrymander in every state, nor may we have an easy time of cleaning up the supreme court, or reviving laws and regulations that are necessary, but we must protect our country, our Constitution and the liberties of all Americans, not just the ones they deem special. And who knows when or if the republicans in congress will ever return to some level of sanity and stop kissing Trump's ass, but we have to stay on our toes and hold every single one of these treasonous, horrible people accountable every single day. Vote 💙💙if you love your liberties.
Not really, now it included so many centrists and even left. People still think it's the 2016 far right movement, no it's not, it's the majority, mainly working people, urban poor. Most of them were once represented by the Democratic party, the working ordinary people, but anymore. By slandering them, you're slandering the majority of the Americans.

Citizens want immigration to be lawful, orderly, and measured. When that happens, the economy improves for everyone.
Immigrants need time to adapt to the new country, it has to be measured so all the parties can win.

Tariffs in the long run merely favor aa chosen few. Herbert Hoover & Trump are much alike--- they push TARRIFS WHICH COST EVERYONE in he long run--- and spur inflation--- ask any economist!
Yes! Fuzzy math, and democrats aren't educated enough to know it.

Exactly.
@@Nosugarcoatingme Hmmm. I wonder where my father's Purple Heart came from. And the picture of his B-17 squadron.
It's really quite simple. Improve the living standards of the working class instead of allowing the monied elite to run away with all the cash, and the working class will no longer care about immigrants. The problem is, and always has been, economic. Until governments have the guts to stand up to the global business elite, we are destined to fascism.
Well said.
It’s not easy in the hands of a hard right SCOTUS, a fairly rightie house and senate, and if Trump wins.

@@misterlyle. That's like saying a house fire isn't a problem after the house is gone.
@@bigverybadtomno, that is the literal definition of inflation, its the rate of devaluation of your currency, and thus an increase of prices. Its measured year by year.

Republicans better for the economy is possibly the most enduring myth in US politics.

"The economy is great." "Unemployment is at its lowest level ever." Inflation is almost nonexistent." "The race is an absolute toss-up."
You guys are funny! I give CNN roughly 1 more year of existence. Truth is so popular these days.
How about "ALMOST" cult-like following? That shit had me rolling !!
Let me know when CNN faces a Billion dollar lawsuit for spewing bullshit... until then? Go sit down.
@@Bignickfor1 There has been plenty of evidence. Turning a blind eye to reality like Papa Joe Paterno will not fool anybody. If the election is free and fair Trump will win easily.
@@Bignickfor1huh! lol
Never heard anything on CNN this honest!
You're right ✅
Every now and then CNN puts something out there where I see the media narrative align with reality. This is one of those times.
So instead of becoming a minority in your own country in 20 years we should welcome to do it in 10 years. And gladly continue to join the military to keep the new comers safe while protecting their countries borders at the same time. If you think we're not meeting our military recruitment goals now wait and see what happens in ten years. Man child democrats are the real threat to our nation.
I thought that the Fed controlled the economy, not the Pres. As far as national defense, I would think that a wise president will highly value the expertise of life-long members of the military.
Yes, but the lawless monstrous criminal conman will destroy the Fed and the military.
Biden/Harris dumped too much money into the economy by signing into law a bill that majority Democrats voted for. The Inflation Reduction Act.
Yesterday I got 2 bags of groceries at Walmart. Even though I knew prices are up, I was shocked at the total of $50.00 +. I don't think Kamala will give us any relief, so I am voting with my wallet. Go Trump!
lol this whole segment is “smile through your misery”
Classic Orwellian shit
They want you to believe these obvious lies because it humiliates you, that is the goal of late-stage propaganda.
Fareed Zakaria is such a joke. If Trump was there there would be no “treacherous times”.
Economy has never been so bad, comes from me a middle class man who feels it in my wallet. People are suffering left n right and r barely getting by while Kamala is laughing, so sad.
Trump destroyed the economy by not dealing with covid quickly.
Kamala Harris said Bidennomics is working 🤨😬
Hey Kamala Harris said Bidennomics is working 🤨 😬
The only way the west can stop the rise of Germany before Second World War was to make friend with the soviet Union
But they would never do it
You know, I can accept the fact that there are right-wing populists in our population.

"ALMOST a cult" ??? The MAGA movement is almost the *_definition_* of a cult.
What they, Democrats, don't mention is the clause in the border bill that allow 5000 illegal crossings a day. That is still unacceptable

@@bigverybadtom Well said. Trump lowered inflation to 1.4 %, energy independent which lowers all costs including food and gas, no wars - no senseless killings for military industrial complex and money laundering, Trump is not a politician - a negotiator who renegotiated NAFTA, got NATO to share the costs fairly, reduced GHG's more than EU as a whole, created greatest economy in 50 years, exposed corrupt bias media, secured the border with Stay in Mexico policy creating safe communities, parks, schools and hospitals. Lastly, RFK was right, Democrats weaponized gov't against political opponents, fake witch hunts and even tried to remove him from ballots - the real threat to democracy. Kamala, worst VP 8 weeks ago, only job was the border, failed up with zero votes, ignored process - again , the real threat to democracy so they changed their motto - Trump is a dictator - he's been President for 4 years - compare records. Joe Biden was incompetent and rigged election - Facebook exposed all and came forward. Kamala cancelled XL pipeline on Day One - 3.9 years ago. Why wait - she's VP now - why not close the border now? They want to rig another election with illegal 's voting. Canada will cross the border and remove any Banana Republic - keep it up Amercia - you've become a tyrannical gov't - the real threat.
