Hi there, your videos have been such great insight! I received my MSN in Healthcare Informatics in 2021, had very little "informatics" experience (only superuser for our IV pumps), it's been a bit challenging finding something I'm truly interested in. I currently work as a CDI Specialist which has given me some experience, but my goal is to work as a CIS. Thank you for the encouraging/informative videos
Congratulations on your MSN! Yes it’s a little difficult to get an informatics job. Have you ever looked on the American Nursing Informatics Association website? There are many jobs that pop up on there as well as LinkedIn. It’s good that you have gotten experience as a super user. Don’t give up, you’ll get there! 💕
The interview process was quick because I already worked at the hospital. Once I applied, HR reached out to schedule an interview. In the interview I got asked questions like, Why I would like to transition into informatics? How do I handle stressful situations and examples? What knowledge I have that will be beneficial to the position? 5 year goals? What experiences I’ve encountered that will aid in this new role?
In my situation it helped because I transitioned from Utilization to Informatics in the same hospital. So I was already accustomed to the EMR system. Now, if you were to do Utilization and Informatics at 2 different institutions, it may not be as helpful. However, if you are in a Utilization role and wish to transfer to informatics, I think in the interview you’ll be able to use the advantage of being able to navigate different systems and quick learning. If you are fortunate enough to go straight into informatics that’s great!
Hi, I do have a video on how to become an informatics nurse. For a quick answer, I would suggest joining the informatics committee of your institution has one, become a super user for your electronic medical record system, and start applying to jobs. If you have acute care experience, you will be an asset to the department.
I am so glad I found this video. I can do ALL THINGS THROUGH CHRIST THAT STRENGTHENS ME… Get this ABSN…pre-nursing!

Do you believe becoming a utilization nurse helped you get a informatics job?

You didn’t give any information on becoming a informatic nurse. You spoke of your experience
