Sometimes life throws a curved ball. You dealt with this really well. Pause, take a moment to revaluate, dust yourself down and crack on. Brilliant and thank you 👍👏😊
Sorry that you are feeling down about all of this Kris. You are doing a great job and have achieved so much. You are a clever young man. Take some encouragement mate and say bollox to what’s past and look forward. You have made mistakes but you made the right call to rectify them before it was too late.
Looks like the water table in the higher field behind the barn is saturating down and flowing in between the soil tables. A ditch between the field and barn with stone and felt membrane and routed around the end to the lower grade would redirect it. I have seen many barns that haven’t had as big of footings last many a year. I think it will be just fine for the purpose he has in mind as is.
Thanks for showing us how things can go awry and how to rectify. You are legendary. I actually breathed a sigh of relief when it got sorted. As my grandpa used to say "We don't do halfa$$".😇
Maybe it is because you are building a timber frame. We had the same curse on our timber frame house. We hit standing water at 12 inches below the surface and our frost line is 48 here, it was a month in a muck hole. 25 piers formed and 15 minutes after the pump truck showed up we blew our forms to pieces. First time around we order $2k of expensive fill. Second it actually worked. We used big foot plastic forms at the base to distribute the load. It will be a breath of fresh air when you are out of the muck and into the wood. Hard labor for sure!
Exact same thing happened to me last year. Monolithic slab with grade beams for barn though, dug the foundation footers and trenches and then water socked in and made ground unstable then winter hit and set me back quite a ways getting it back to stable usable ground. I know the feeling of relief when concrete is finally poured and checked off the list. Can’t wait to see and hear more about this “temporary structure” above everything to work under. Might should have don’t that before digging footers. In all my grumbling I was saying “Need to build a barn around my barn to allow me to build my barn and keep the rain off” lol Happy building!
Oh that looked painful having to undo all the work on the holes, but perseverance pays off in the end. Those foundations look solid and straight, just what you need. Amazing that despite it being the midst of winter and in a soggy climate you e turned a bare field into a ready base to build your barn. It’s so satisfying to see it ready for the fun part now. And you have lots of ready cut bits of ply for a big set of shelves!!!
Thanks Kris! Looked like they were stratospheric injecting you as bad as us! Great job overcoming horrible conditions! Your lucky to have Dot and her dad to bounce ideas off of! Hope you get a week of fair weather! Thank you, I was excited to see your post on UA-cam today!

Kris here in the Midwest. We just dump a few bags of dry concrete mix in the holes. Ground water soaks in and hardened. The dry mix will pull the moisture in and firm up the bottoms.
I'm on the coast here in Porthcawl and I can feel for you buddy with regard to the constant rain we have had this winter ! Glad to see it turned out positive in the end :) Those post supports are going to be awesome !
I operated a 200 ton end dump truck , we would fill large areas and when it would rain the bulldozer would push the mud off the edges then it would dry in a few months hard as a rock . In the States we would surcharge with garnet stones then fill 32 inches with stone in three or four lifts then a foot of gravel hard pack then a foot of Asphault in lifts for interstate highways the off ramps we would burry stumps borrow the fill for under the highway the good gravel and good fill every 100 feet would be preferred pipe to remove any water . The Cat Truck has 9 foot tall Michelin tires that compacts the material x 200 tons loaded ! Like your videos ! Thanks
Going through the same pain Kris. I bought new counters for my kitchen reno, and now I hate them. I know how much this sucks when we make the wrong decisions, but you are doing like me.... getting on with it and just keep moving forward. Great job. Looking forward to seeing more of this build.
Good on you for sharing your setbacks, frustrations and struggles too. It's not the problems but the inspiring thing is that you show that you don't give up in the face of adversities and will find a solution. These are lessons we can all learn, and many of us can relate to. Thanks Kris.

IT is truly a pleasure seeing when things work for you, and so happy that there was Dot and her Dad being able to assist when things became a bit overwhelming, and sure video of the work could have been nice to share but what was more important was the task was able to get completed. So nice job, and looking forward to seeing more development soon

In all my grumbling I was saying “Need to build a barn around my barn to allow me to build my barn and keep the rain off” lol
Happy building!

Impressive job Kris, we live n learn. Feet up with a cuppa 🍵
I feel for you. I've lost count of the number of times what seemed like perfect solutions to a problem have made twice as much work and expense - all part of the learning experience.
Sorry for all the trouble you had, but nice to see your human! Love your channel!
Stay strong every project has set backs,... Some worse then others, what make you successful is your ability to overcome.
The frustration was palpable. Great job Kris, the end result will be worth it….Brilliant 👍👍👍
Thanks
Never trust the weather outlook....lol. It looks like you managed to save the day. Well done.
You Kris are an unstoppable machine, and I'm so looking forward to seeing you frame this structure up.
Digger has a Pope-mobile cab!
You could wave with beneficence to the geese and sheep! ;-)
Those foundations are quite impressive!
Barn is gonna be a thing of useful beauty!
Kris H, thank you for sharing. Hopefully the difficulty turn out to be a blessing in disguise . IT is truly a pleasure seeing when things work for you, and so happy that there was Dot and her Dad being able to assist when things became a bit overwhelming, and sure video of the work could have been nice to share but what was more important was the task was able to get completed. So nice job, and looking forward to seeing more development soon
