Timber Framed Barn Part 8 Framing Has Started!

- It finally handed timber framing of the barn has started. However we had a change of plan. the tent we were going to work under was just not going to work. we could not pull the sheet tight in the wind and it was way to loud for filming. I decided to give up on that plan and rent a corner of a barn for a month. This ended up being a great decision as the weather has been really wet and windy.
In this video we get the small wall frame done.
Thanks to Howard and the team for there hard work. you can check out Howards website, Facebook and Instagram bellow

500k subs, huge congrats. Looking forward to watching Howard and co perform their magic.
Never has 500k subs been more richly deserved, well done mate take a bow! As for the barn .. wow! Really starting to get an idea of the scale of it all ('a bit of a beast' lol!). Stunning craftmanship and as usual, fascinating and inspiring video.
Thanks John. I hope you are doing well :)
I'll second that with all my heart.
Congrats on Half a Million, Chris !! A little setback or rain never slows you down. You epitomize how this world was built #Hard Work.
Here's to TIMBERROOTS! What a crew!
Here's to the beauty of these timbers and the skills of the Kris the designer and the absolute mastery of this crew of professionals!
Here's to 500K subs!
Great episode!
It's so encouraging to see people this young possessing skills like this. Wonderful! Great video!
Today a substantial medieval barn, tomorrow a timber-frame homestead? Fantastic work lads and congrats on 500k ❤
There are not many teams like Howard and his squad around an absolute lesson in craftsmanship ….well done
You have come a long way since your days in the tent.
Who would have believed back then you'd be building this!! ♥️
Well, I guess he did!
Makes my little wood projects look really little. Fantastic work Kris & team.
I love the fact you have such hard workers, with your drive for quality working with you! You certainly deserve to have help with this enormous project! Love your work, I’ve been following since the “tent” days! Congratulations on 500K!
@krisHarbourNaturalBuilding939 Scam.
Kris's videos are crafted as carefully as all his other projects, and he's happy to share it all with us. This episode must have been especially challenging, with the change in location and the large crew, but Kris managed to capture it all, and put in some serious woodwork.
When I first saw your barn plans I thought "bloody hell that's going to take Kris 2 or 3 years to build". Didn't realise you were getting the 'pros' in! Traditional timber framing is so satisfying to do, but I've not done a building as big as this monster. . Really enjoying the long format build videos mate. Good luck and be safe.
Looking super nice. Great job to everyone working on this!
Well done for your channel Chris. I'm an armchair timber framer and its a pleasure to watch craftsmen at work. Those scarf joints are a work of art 😃😃
Not often does one get a chance to see this work done in such detail Kris....
Thank you , much appreciated.
That craftmanship is SO beautiful. Its great to see traditional craftmanship in action

Carpentry at this level and scale is so beautiful and impressive. Excited to see this project take form.
@krisHarbourNaturalBuilding939 Scammer
In 1963 I passed my “O” level in woodwork…I was quite impressed with my effort. Oh my goodness, this guys must have passed their triple “A” level. I’m so impressed.
Congrats on the 500k subs. Stunning craftmanship and fascinating to watch.
It is lovely to watch and listen to a tradesman at his craft. Keep up the fantastic work.
Love watching this barn come together! Great work by all
500K subs and an awesome start to the frame . Your smiling in this video says it all . Congratulations and loved seeing these guys work . Just great . Thanks for sharing and Cheers Ade.

@krisHarbourNaturalBuilding939 Scammer..
How it does my heart good to see a timber framed building being beautifully traditionally built!
Howard and his team are pure gold, great work and what joy to see the woodworking skills are alive and kicking.
This is a amazing to watch. Such a stunning craftsmanship.

OMG Kris you look like a kid in a sweet shop there! Making a lot of viewers very happy for you and perhaps a tad jealous! It looks like so much fun and seeing the accuracy and skill level is mind-blowing never mind the pace of the work.Welll done
WOW, you must be absolutely over the moon excited!!! It's not even my timber frame and I'm beside myself with excitement for you! We're in the process of finalizing the design for our TF house and barn, and this is SO inspiring to see. You've got one hell of a crew there knocking out that job. Can't wait to see then next frame be cut.
Great to see the barn evolving and your smiles say it all !
This was a joy to watch, looking forward to more installments! Glad to see these traditional building methods being kept alive.
This is an EPIC building in the making. A mediaeval cathedral! Superb video of master craftsmen. These people are going to come into their own in the not too distant future!
Howard and his crew are not only carpenters those guys are artists. Really awesome they are sharing their knowledge with you
Thank you for the video Kris - truly awesome - amazing project management and great to see how a timber framed building is manufactured - I was impressed by the attention given to accuracy - looking forward to the next stage. Many congratulations on the 500K subs - no mean feat.
Great video Kris! Those guys are pros, so they could handle minor variations on your milled wood. The pros use the ratchet straps- what an invaluable tool for all timber framers. These guys just reinforced the skills of planning and taking your time. But you have had and used the same skills for all of your video projects. You are the star in all of this. It is your hard work that allows you to highlight these timber crafters. The cheers go to you Kris!
Congratulations on the 500k milestone. I think this episode is perhaps one of your best, the craftmanship being shown by the whole crew are excellent.
@krisHarbourNaturalBuilding939 Scammer
Amazing that the old building techniques havent changed for centuries
Thanks for this post - looks great! It's nice to get a bit of a refresher a year on from the amazing course I did with Hewnwood in Wales. We used all hand tools so much slower and a pure experience but I totally understand the need to bring in the big guns sometimes :D Looking forward to seeing the rest of the build.
@krisHarbourNaturalBuilding102 Scammer.
Kris, I'm very glad to see that at least a half a million people are interested in your work! Congradulations!! I came along when you were bulding the Coin Cobb house and have enjoyed keeping up with your journey. Thank you for the content you've put out, and all the builds that spead the knowledge far and wide. Also, that's a proper scarf joint sir🤔with lateral suport, it's a little extra work but helps tighten thing up.
@krisHarbourNaturalBuilding102 Scammer.
Just catching up and astonished with all the expertise working with such big timbers, it’s very emotional seeing all the care & skills involved! It puts my own projects into perspective! Well done everyone!
Professional craftsmanship very interesting to watch. Loved the birds eye drone shots inside the barn showing the scale. Congrats on 500k Kris.
This will be a beautiful building! I'm really happy seeing people building an old fashion stuff, not the modern cardboard bs that could stand just 10 years at most.
Barn is going to look Amazing Kris, great job on 1/2 million subs. 🎉💚👍👍
Learned a lot watching this process. I can’t imagine the weight of that wall. Looks incredible
I thoroughly enjoy this gentleman's immense skill and attention to detail in everything he does. I also enjoy when he ventures to other experts, gleans additional knowledge on a process and pretty much masters it within a video week. Hat tip to the half a million subscribers as well!
@krisHarbourNaturalBuilding939 Scammer..
Wow what craftsmanship with those BIG timbers. I'm very impressed
Really cool that there are still people out there making a living doing this kind of work!
I encourage everyone of your new subscribers to watch the older video's to truly appreciate this video and your way of working.
the skill level in this one video is amazing to watch that includes all 5 individuals, and what makes it better is their ages (all young). it restores the idea that the younger generation is still willing to work skills by hand, sweat, and maybe tears at times...lol. beautiful craftsmanship, thank you kris for taking us along. also congratulations on 500,000 subs!!! well over due!
That tenon fix has got to be the most important lesson to me. Amazing. Glad you showed us. The rest is fantastic for a newbie like me. Total appreciation to you man.
@krisHarbourNaturalBuilding939 Scammer
I remember you laying the first logs at the round house. How incredibly far you've come. Cheers to 500k.
Wasn't it old tires for his base at the round house
That grin on your face says it all. You were in a very happy place!
Thank you so much for recording this - what an insight into the making of many of our longstanding timber-framed buildings, and as always, somewhat humbling thinking of all the work that went into doing it in the past with hand tools. I wonder how much would have been done under cover too?
My old school was, in part, a 1000 yr old archbishop's palace, and I spent many a lesson admiring (instead!), the fine carpentry. A joy to behold.
Sorry your temporary building got messed up by our glorious weather.
Great to see hard work and craftsmanship in action. A beautiful method with historic roots.
@krisHarbourNaturalBuilding939 Scammer
Brings back memories of working on the globe theatre . Good to see proper scribing in action . Have retired now as it got a bit heavy . Still have all the gear but will pass it down to my son . Keep on framing ! 👍
Another of your amazing talents is the ability to scale up projects. From a one man shop build to a five man fab crew. All leading up to a far superior product. This is a rare talent among the off grid community of strong, but independent minded individuals.
@krisHarbourNaturalBuilding102 Scammer.
Like you I normally work alone an I find it weird having help on site. But, when you get that help it becomes more than just getting ahead on a job, it's the opportunity to learn from people and these guys are masters. Really enjoying the series.
Kris! Congratulations on 500k! Well deserved! What an excellent video today. Seeing you go from being a one man show with your own pace to falling in with a well oiled machine like the crew from Timberroots, and not missing a beat, my hat is off to you! What a pace you all kept, not a weak link in the bunch! Keep up the good work!
@krisHarbourNaturalBuilding939 Scammer..
Great account of the work, Kris. There is a lot to be said for a group of men laboring together. Sure, there will be flare ups and problems, but the bond and brotherhood that develops is like no other. Each man with his skill and character, advancing toward a finished product, can find great satisfaction in a job well done.
Wonderful to see old crafts being used today. What a great bunch of workers.
What amazing craftsmanship. The smell of fresh cut wood must be intoxicating. Can't wait to see more. Happy to be one of the 500k, well deserved.
@krisHarbourNaturalBuilding939 Scammer..
My mom and I watched the video after this one first and I came to this after to find the reason for your warehouse assembly project. I am happy for you that you have such amazing men with knowledge in woodworking. You are making great strides and the care your team takes is evident.
@Kris_Harbour_Natural_Building thank you anyway but I can’t disclose my info due to identity theft
I often hear from so many that traditional trades are lost, im so glad to see they are wrong, just not looking hard enough, as a carpenter myself its great to see these old joinery's still going
Congratulations on 500k, well deserved Kris 👏
The barn is a beast, can’t wait for the next woodworking class 🌈
Great to watch traditional building. Thank you all.
Awesome skills and an absolutely riveting watch. I cannot wait to see more instalments. Good luck with it all.
Great collaboration and excellent craftsmanship Chris on this Barndomaximum.
Wow, How nice to see true craftsmen at their trade. Showing how it should be done. It puts the but jointers to shame.... 😄 👍👍
Congratulations on the 500K Kris, very well deserved. You were the first channel I subscribed to on UA-cam and I think you were on about 50K then. Glad to be here now and to be 1 of the 500K. Here's to the next 500K 🥂
The skills that we got to see in this video are off the charts! You did an amazing job capturing this mammoth process. Incredible. This barn is going to be something to behold.
What craftmanship from you guys. That barn will be stunning. Keep em coming Kris.
The very best video of building a timberframe.
Enjoyed watching the cutting out of the mortise and tenon joints. The creation of the rest of the pieces was fascinating as well.
@krisHarbourNaturalBuilding939 Scam.
Really cool joinery. Looking forward to seeing all the wall plates and the barn go up.
Yeah 500 K subs. We are very fortunate to have found your channel. So much amazing content... Looking forward to the barn assembly.
What an incredible accomplishment! There’s no denying the significance of reaching 500k subscribers, at the same time at you’re undertaking your most ambitious project! Wow! What a very special video! Your channel is always captivating, whatever you’re doing, but this project is streets ahead! Watching the structure come together literally brought me to tears. The workmanship is incredible, and all from your design! You’ve a shining light to so many of us! Sincere congratulations from Leicestershire!
Amazing vid👏 Look at your face, grinning from ear to ear. Amazing achievement with where you are. Just goes to show that when you apply yourself, almost anything is possible 👍
True craftsmen at work. This really makes me appreciate the speed of stick framing.
True craftsmen would wear eye protection when sawing though....
Life is beautiful with the right equipment
That’s some epic old world craftsmanship. ❤
Loved every second of this vlog, very skilled work. I have been lucky as an engineer to travel the world installing and servicing equipment and am always humbled by the skills I have seen from other trades from riggers, welders, fabricators electricians the list is endless but all of these skills are hard earned and deserve the utmost respect. Love what you are doing.
Wow!!!! So impressed I love the changes to the supports .... makes it a work of art really. Great job
They’ve Done there company proud. Well deserved plug for them.
Its good to see we still have skilled craftsmen.
@krisHarbourNaturalBuilding939 Scam
Congratulations on your half a million subscribers, well deserved and hopefully it won't be too long we are congratulating you on one million.
I am so glad you decided to bring in Howard and the boys to help with the timber framing, although I have been so looking forward to watching the barn build I have been worried about your shoulder, which delayed the workshop build and hindered the greenhouse build, so you not pushing yourself to breaking point is such a relief.
The barn is going to look totally amazing and I'm so looking forward to being able to watch the progress. I hope the spring weather arrives soon so you can get on with the barn, Dot can get the garden and up running and we get to see the little lambs enjoying life xx
Truly informative! I needed a reference that highlighted basic wood frame construction methods & techniques where ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxYGamVaHfdHiPlAQaLa7zkwR02OKpGYDU were best. I am pleased with the depth and clarity of Ryan’s Shed Plans. It was really convenient to capture!
I have a new appreciation for the labor intensity of timber framing. Four man/weeks of labor for one frame and there are 5 frames of varying complexity! I'm not going to compare this to stick framing... that would be like comparing wooden boat building to fiberglass. When you finish Kris I hope the team gets to carve their names on a post. Thanks Kris for documenting this so honestly.
What an awesome build!
A fantastic job ! Congratulations from Italy ! 👍👍👍
It’s like a a quick learn day, this video - super impressive - I know you’re excited by the look on your face! Congrats on assembling this team & pursuing your dream. Cheers from Louisiana. 👏
