@FolkMusicWins The Civil Wars. Please check them out. I know a lot of good bands out there, the ones you listed are definitely some of my favs. Mumford being my #1, but Civil Wars definitely are close to Mumford. Very talented but they are so unknown which is very sad.
The banjolin song, the first part of this video, seriously needs to be in a musical museum. Its so raw, and their talent makes the sound coming from an alley that much better. This video is fucking beautiful.
Don't care much for commenting but the Gents & Johnny deserve highest praise for this soul-stirring performance. I'm so very proud that these are my contemporaries, as this brand of music has clearly won our hearts and minds. Réveille mon âme! Long live the Everyman.
Every time I watch this and every time the camera man briefly passes by Johnny on the violin in the Banjolin Song (bout 1:50) I get a big ol' lump in my throat. The way he plays it with the Gents is sooo beautiful.
From what I'm hearing: "Dans ces corps, nous vivons. Dans ces corps, nous mourons. Où tu mets ton amour, tu mets ta vie" And of course: "Réveille mon âme"
Everytime I don't feel like doing my french homework, I listen to this, and then back to work I go with a huge grin! :) Mumford and Sons, inspiring college students everyday...
It's videos like this that really shaped my musical preferences and style. If you want to hear how acts like Mumford and Sons, Noah and the Whale, and Frank Turner have influenced my music, then just take a look at "Not Worth It" on the Keystone Productions channel. Thanks!
@rmorrow1989 It's a legitimate opinion to have...just because Flynn refused to sign onto a record label that took away production rights, like Mumford did, it doesn't mean he's any worse a musician. I'd rather have Flynn's talent.
glad to find something in my generation i can show my kid's and don't have to go back to the 60's & i'm only 29. They ROCK!!!!!!!! O and thank you UA-cam for mumford with my coffee.. It's gonna be a good day tatter!
Incredible. The sheer power that vibrates off of these musicians. No need for stage performances, these guys are at their best at random street corners, alleyways and window balconies!
OK, so I'm a pretty str8 guy, in Texas, and gotta admit I got semi-wood watching this. Perfect videography to pull you in, Mumford & Sons great lyrics, and the AMAZiING Johnny Flynn (wry smile as Marcus grinds thru the French =i priceless). I wish Mumford/sons, Johnny and Laura Marling would come tour the US together after Johnny finishes his Shakespeare gigs at the Globe.
there's a moment at about 1.00 that just makes me feel happy. It sounds like there's an orchestra there, and then you see them all there with their instruments... god. No words can describe the amount of love I have for this video. *favourite*
its just great to see some real folk bands making it big time. These guys, Dry the River, Johnny Flynn. All huge inspirations to the music that our band makes. and many others I'm sure. I hope that if you enjoy this music you will enjoy ours as well!
For those asking for the French... Réveille mon âme! -- Awake my soul! Dans ces corps nous vivrons, dans ces corps nous mourrons, -- In these bodies we will live, in these bodies we will die, Où tu mets ton amour, tu mets ta vie, -- Where you put your love, you put your life, Dans ces corps nous vivrons, dans ces corps nous mourrons, -- In these bodies we will live, in these bodies we will die, Où tu mets ton amour, tu mets ta vie. -- Where you put your love, you put your life.
I don't know what kind of Folk you want to listen to but you may try Fleet Foxes and Hope Sandoval & The Warm Inventions. Hope Sandoval is always a bit depressiv but great in her own category and so are Fleet Foxes. You should definitely try them out, they speak for theirselves!
oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooh man! cant wait for them to come to Dixon, Illinois in a few months ..... gonna be the best damn concert to ever grace this town ... and probably be bigger than Abraham Lincolns pass threw and Ronald Reagan's childhood (Ronald's hometown) and Rita Crundwell's robbery....... sorry rest of the world .... but we here in little Dixon, Illinois are gonna ROCK THE KAZBAH! .. ;)
@mumraaaaa Actually you are a joke. If you were to talk to Johnny Flynn, he would say that Mumford and Sons inspire him, and vice versa. Why do you think they are playing together in this video? They both have the same appreciation for music, and therefore want to create something beautiful like this video. Mumford and Sons are very unique, and no wonder they are one of the most popular bands in the world right now. If you weren't so narrow minded, maybe you would see that.
@Lopiehtable, No, no it isnt. From wikipedia: Banjo hybrids normally take their names from the Banjo- prefix, and then the second half of the other instrument's name, such as banjocello and the banjitar, which has led to the belief that the banjolin is a sort of Mandolin/Banjo hybrid. The Banjolin is actually a 'violin banjo'. Fretless banjolins are therefore more likely to crop up.
For real... They was just walking around and playing near the ppl windows? Imagine how awesome would be you in your house, when some ppl just start playing near your windows, and when you come to see it's Mumford And Sons... For real... I can't explain how awesome that would be, no one can...
im trying to figure out the french he sang. I know some of it but can't understand the rest. Awake my soul (Reveille mon ame) In these bodies we will live, in these bodies we will die (dans ces corps, nous vivrous, dans ces corps, nous mourrons) Then i can't understand what he says.. help?
@prophetofmars That's like saying an ukulele is tuned to gCEA or aDF#B "most of the time". A banjolin is, in essence, a mandolin with a banjo head. Why do you think it's so impossible that they wrote/recorded this song with a banjolin?
@ScarbroughsaurusRex I wasn't translating the lyrics. Haha, if I did, I wouldn't use the verb mettre. I was writing what I thought I heard him sing... and put the original English lyrics in parentheses. ^-^ Merci!
I think it says something for the song and Mumford and Sons that they can change parts to French on the spot and doesn't have any sort of negative effect on how it sounds.
@NoName21234 lmao I actually have completely forgotten about this till now and didn't even know people were thumbs upping my comment, but YES, it is still very very good!
lol johnny looks like the most innocent boy drafted into a band of drunkards in this video
+Ilan M He kind of is... And he outplays any of these dudes.
Now I know what a dream sounds like. This is heavenly epic!
Video from Concerts à emporter/Take away shows of La Blogothèque.
ugh I am going to come

Johnny Flynn ft. Mumford & Sons
Johnny Flynn is so multi-talented!
The way he plays it with the Gents is sooo beautiful.
so true, simple, perfect
I love how it rhymes in both languages, and marcus is awful at french XD
From what I'm hearing:
"Dans ces corps, nous vivons. Dans ces corps, nous mourons.
Où tu mets ton amour, tu mets ta vie"
And of course: "Réveille mon âme"
The harmonies are exquisite, I love these guys!
I've just had some sort of biblical experience listening to that
I like Mumford And Sons but Johnny is so sexy and talented that I feel like he steals the show.
Everytime I don't feel like doing my french homework, I listen to this, and then back to work I go with a huge grin! :) Mumford and Sons, inspiring college students everyday...
This is pretty epic.
Is that Johnny Flynn on the violin
Ye bro
@@kerryjones5272 I love that there was half a decade between the comments. Music bridges the gap 🤗
@@alexwilliams6183 I’ve been a resident on this video for 10 years, gotta love old mumfords
Mumford and Sons' music makes me so damn happy. If I could pick a band to score the soundtrack to my life it would be these bros.
❤❤❤
I'm jealous. She got a private concert. I WANT ONE
Tell me about it, so jelly!
Can't believe how awesome they sound live when most modern day bands are terrible live.
InternetheroxD
Yes! I love them Live! It's sad, very sad, other bands should learn a thing or two from these guys!
You mean learn how to play music without the aid of machines? ;)
InternetheroxD
Hahahaha yes pretty much
Mumford & Sons music just makes me genuinely happy, no matter what!
Here after watching Lovesick and going on a deep dive on Johnny Flynn. Thanks for uploading this gem, kind soul!
Mumford's voice is really something else. Wow!
this is the best video I have ever seen. It makes me so happy!
thank you Mumford and sons and Johnny Flynn!
I wish I was the woman in the video! All of these gorgeous, talented (mainly Johnny Flynn) men!! So jealous!
Johnny Flynn
Anyone know where I can get mandolin tabs for awake my soul? theres a couple of chords I cant seem to figure out.. cheers!
Real music with real instruments is so refreshing to hear
It's videos like this that really shaped my musical preferences and style. If you want to hear how acts like Mumford and Sons, Noah and the Whale, and Frank Turner have influenced my music, then just take a look at "Not Worth It" on the Keystone Productions channel. Thanks!

These are real musicians. I'm glad they still exist. :)
These were the days man.. the english folk explosion, i was lucky to see them tour a few times at the time and all their supporting acts
Incredible. The sheer power that vibrates off of these musicians. No need for stage performances, these guys are at their best at random street corners, alleyways and window balconies!

his mandolin is out of tune.
So's your comment.

I'm so in love with their music.
Johnny Flynn + Mumford & Sons = vilhblagheslfjflhkigipaghanglobh
They're just so wonderful. I loved how they sang in french.
Didn't know Jonny played the violin. Lovely stuff!
This is amazing oh my god
is there anything johnny can't do?
Dans ces corps nous vivrons, dans ces corps nous mourrons, où tu mets ton amour, tu mets ta vie...
i can't really stand Mumford and Sons but I love J Flynn...
I feel a lot better listening to this after crying over a great book. :)
how does this not have more views - i've been watching this video from time to time for a few months! it never seems to lose it's magic.
johnny flynn rocks that fiddle
good old johnny giving them a helping hand
Still love this song and performance 9 years later….
I didn't think this song could get any beautiful than it already is...then they just had to go and sing it in French. This is amazing.
JOHNNY PLAYS VIOLIN?!
its just great to see some real folk bands making it big time. These guys, Dry the River, Johnny Flynn. All huge inspirations to the music that our band makes. and many others I'm sure. I hope that if you enjoy this music you will enjoy ours as well!
Are you serious, he broke out in French too. Man, the talent that GOD has poured into these guys. Best band this side of Heaven!
They are very addictive! I need more Mumford and Sons! ;)
Awwh :) It was amazing. Best band i've ever seen live.
For those asking for the French...
Réveille mon âme! -- Awake my soul!
Dans ces corps nous vivrons, dans ces corps nous mourrons, -- In these bodies we will live, in these bodies we will die,
Où tu mets ton amour, tu mets ta vie, -- Where you put your love, you put your life,
Dans ces corps nous vivrons, dans ces corps nous mourrons, -- In these bodies we will live, in these bodies we will die,
Où tu mets ton amour, tu mets ta vie. -- Where you put your love, you put your life.
the part @ 2:15 when Marcus carries the high note gets me every time...
theeeeeeere's Johnny
love jf's violin in part 5:05 - 5:30
but it's all awesome of course, would love to see them together live once ;)
wish i had a random house, with a random window, from which i could hear this being played in my random garden too
That is Yours way!! Qvo vadis Mumford's... :)
As always, this just makes me so happy & makes me shiver! So amazing.
Love the singing. Please tune your instruments first? Thank you.
"Marcus, the love train is waiting for you," God I love the French
I don't know what kind of Folk you want to listen to but you may try Fleet Foxes and Hope Sandoval & The Warm Inventions. Hope Sandoval is always a bit depressiv but great in her own category and so are Fleet Foxes. You should definitely try them out, they speak for theirselves!
And I fell in love with this band all over again.
oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooh man! cant wait for them to come to Dixon, Illinois in a few months ..... gonna be the best damn concert to ever grace this town ... and probably be bigger than Abraham Lincolns pass threw and Ronald Reagan's childhood (Ronald's hometown) and Rita Crundwell's robbery....... sorry rest of the world .... but we here in little Dixon, Illinois are gonna ROCK THE KAZBAH! .. ;)

i have always hated the sound of the french language.... until now.... im learning it thanks to marcus and the lads
I love how he smiles in the beginning.
could somebody french tell me the words that he is saying so i can learn to pronounce it properly ?
@travisreep He does indeed.. but if you look carefully, he's reading the words of a piece of paper on the table. Still brilliant nonetheless.
This video was stolen from the Blogothèque.
-> Look for Mumford and Sons - Take Away Show to see the original and all the others.
@conorzzy I agree, but they don't call it a 'scene', they just happened to pick out their parent's records all about the same time.
just your every day alt rock band - sporting a banjo, an accordion, a cello and a mandolin (and thx to Johnny for adding in a violin)
Marcus is sexy when he sings in English... he's even sexier when he sings in French! Now, if he could just sing in Italian...
@ghostie7790 his pronunciation of oui is more colloquial. oui is proper whereas ouias is used in a more non-formal setting.
lol His brittish accent is so strong.. even i can tell that he said "Wi" wrong. (At the end). He said it like "weh". lololol
@Quack4Zac Actually a "banjolin" is a four stringed type of banjo. Most of the time it is tuned to a mandolin-like register.
This video is from a collection of take away shows on the channel LaBlogotheque
many more where this one came from! :)
@JAIMEDANSERDISCO
yeah pretty close. mets is literally 'put' but i think it works just fine there.
thanks for the rest!
wat language r they singing in awake my soul?? this is definately not the way im used 2! CHEEZUS! lol, still luv them :3
There's some progress to be made in french :p
I had to read the comments below to find out they were saying "Réveille" !
I just CANT understand, why people can dislike this O_O
Ben relaxes there in his corner ^^
haaach, they're so cool :)
@travisreep is the ability to speak french a gift from God in all instances? does that apply for any other languages?
@deksterification people always talking about getting eargasms, but at that very moment i actually think i had one.
i saw like the making of video of it and for most of it they are going around asking french people for help haha
Both, I now own a mandolin and a banjo.
I actually prefer playing the mandolin, it's a VERY beautiful instrument.
This is alright. If you want to see the real deal check out The Felice Brothers, that's Felice not Avett.
@prophetofmars A banjolin is a fretless banjo... like a cross between a banjo & a violin.. hence banjolin.
some days winston looks like a trucker other days looks ah-dorable. this is obviously a trucker day.
If they made that much noise behind my house everyday I'd leave biscuits and milk out for them.
