1 extra benefit of milorganite..it will bring back damaged turf quite quickly..maintained a golf course for 25 years...brought back many areas of damaged turf for multiple reasons..as well, will get seed germinating in tough conditions..all this said, I'm going to pick up a back of this at Menards..should be interesting! does it contain any iron, like milo?
I agree, there are many great uses for milorganite. The main difference between these two products is that the beneficial bacteria is not killed In the chickn poo like it is in milorganite.
I too have been looking for Milo alternatives. I was unaware that Milo didn't have beneficial microbes, but it makes sense. Gonna pick up several bags before Fall ends and put some down with aeration and overseeing. Might try collecting and adding to leaves to see how well it helps breaks down mulch pile next to the garden. Unusually warm fall here in Michigan. Looking fwd to a jumpstart in spring. What months do you recommend? To use it
How soon did you see results after putting it down? Is it a quick release fert?
It’s a slow release fertilizer, so the results aren’t instant. I applied it in the fall and it greened up faster and looked awesome in the spring and has ever since.
🌞Great video, Kyle! I, too, live on a lake, but try to stay at least 100 ft or more from the bank to avoid fert run-off into the pond. Do you have any regulations or HOA rules that govern the amount of fert you can apply on your turf to avoid lake contamination? This is my first time living on a lake and trying to learn about the lake ecosystem. We have huge bass and bluegill and hope to keep it that way. Turf looks great!
Thank you, buddy! I appreciate you watching and commenting. Congratulations on your lake home. Our rule is to have at least a 10 foot buffer zone by the water when fertilizing. We have a sea wall along our lawn and a beach area past it, which keeps my fert from running into the lake.

I switch my plans up slightly each year or majorly every other year just because it's an interesting hobby to me. I am a cool season grass junkie by default. I throw Milo down throughout the season, every other year. I sure am going to try this out next season. I am glad I ran across your video.

I'm in Michigan. How often should I apply this during the season for my lawn? Milo is suggested 4x/season around holidays.

@@lakehouselawncare1755 the state of Michigan actually restricts Milo (6-5-0) applications to 2x/year due to naturally higher phos levels. I haven't done a soil test for mine specifically. Using Menards version (4-3-0) I could do 3 apps. But I'm thinking of 2 Milo apps and 1 chick n poo (in the fall after over seeding).
Or I'd have to find a Phos free organic fert.

Heard this is great stuff. I'm in Florida so a comparable option here with less phosphorus (soil in Florida has alot of Phos. already) is 5-1-1 Moorganite, chicken litter and Composted Cow Manure. Sold at Tractor Supply stores, not many people know about it, but it's alot more expensive than this product.

I can get the coop poop version delivered to my local Ace Hardware, a 40lb bag is $19.99. Been thinking about using it next year and spoon feeding my zoysia and common Bermuda mix. Like somewhere between 0.10-0.20lbs of N per 1000sqft every couple of weeks, at least through the spring and early summer when rainfall is adequate.

That’s a crazy high amount of phosphorus. You say you didn’t use a starter fertilizer. This fits the description of a starter fertilizer, it’s the equivalent of a 10-20-15. I would definitely call that a starter fertilizer

@@lakehouselawncare1755 ratio wise it is very high, just like a starter fertilizer. I don’t know what bag rate is on it, but if you’re not using it as an N source what exactly are you using it for? Just because it’s a low analysis doesn’t really mean anything. Majority of people are going to apply bag rate, or even more since “you can’t burn the grass”
The difference between this and milorganite, and main benefit of this product is the amount of beneficial bacteria and fungi that increase the soil nutrient availability. The bag rate is 10 lbs/1000. I hope the putting green is filling in well for ya!

i bought this after you recommended it in your previous video. i didn’t expect it to smell but it does, even my kids noticed. anyway, i like how it works and the price point. i prefer this as a an organic alternative (i use lesco as well). i would not use milorganite ever - it’s essentially peletized human feces. smartest idea to export milwaukee’s feces all over america’s lawns but not on mine. human just like dog or cat waste does not belong on our lawns regardless of how processed they were. thank you for the reco!

I visited the most traditional Berber village in Morocco and they transformed the desert into fertile soil to grow all their food - with humanure compost. Did that for thousands of years. Yeah the humanure pellets have a MUCH stronger acrid smell than the ChickNpoo. People think ChickNpoo stinks - they have no idea what they're missing. It takes about a week to get rid of the humanure compost smell. At least I hope it went away. haha

I once used a product called Chickity Doo Doo. The odor that came from it after watering was terrible. So terrible that my neighbors were not happy. I never used it again for that reason. It was bad. Lol

Ouch a lot of claims there. I love some chicken manure fertilizer but ouch. Applied at 0.7lbs of N per 1000 gives you 1.4lbs of P as well. It's also $10 for a 25lb bag. That means if you apply it at 0.7lbs of N per 1000 like most fertilizer bag rates, it will cost you $14 per 1000 sq ft. That's expensive!!!!
Thank you for your input, Jon. The main benefit of this product comes from the micro organism Activity and the benefit it has on your soil and your lawn’s ability to uptake nutrients. I’m not applying it at the rate you mentioned.

I applied at the light rate, which is 10lbs/1000sq ft.
To Do a fair trial you must apply the exact same conditions to both treated and non treated lawns. Why on earth did you apply less water to the non treated lawn. You should have applied the exact same amount of water to both. Your trial is a flop. I drug trials they do blind trials where the researches do not even know which drug is the placebo and which is the trial drug. If they do it fir drugs you can do the same for chicken shite. I have no doubt it will be a great product when you bring the nitrogen to 10%. MiloShite is a rip-off off.

Am I the only one that cares about the humane treatment of chickens? It's obvious they are factory farmers. I'd rather spend my money helping rid the planet of people poo than help a factory farmer earn more money.

They are certified by the HFAC (Humane Farm Animal Care) which is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the humane treatment of farm animals.
I wouldn't necessarily compare this Milorganite. It's apples and oranges really. Milorganite has iron. This has calcium and a little magnesium. Two of which my soil test said I'm already crazy high on. It does have 80% slow release nitrogen though which is about 13% more than Milorganite. You basically have to buy two bags of this for every one bag of Milorganite to get .77lbs of N per 1000sq ft.
Hey Ross! Thank you for your feedback. The main comparison is that of two organic fertilizer options. The main benefit of chickn poo over milorganite is the beneficial bacteria and fungi that increase the soil nutrient availability. The heating process used by mikorganite kills all of that bacteria and fungi.

Hey Ross, I would not recommend using both because of the phosphorus in both. You don’t want to exceed about a pound/1000 sq ft per year.
How about a 5k sq ft yard one 25lb bag of chicken poo and one 25lb bag of milorganite. I really like the concept but I still want the small amount of N and iron in the milorganite formula.
