literally just walked into a random liquor store and got one of these tonight. immediately came home and searched your name to see your review of the bottle bro!! Love the content here , good stuff homie
Jason, please keep up the honesty and hard work. I had a chance at the whole Weller line the other day... was about to make the 2hr drive one way and already had a buddy coming over to make the ride. When I called back to confirm availability and PRICE, we decided to store hunting instead. 5x-7x retail each. A no go for me, but I am sure they would sale to someone else... sad facts. The secondary/wholesale store owners are ruining the market and driving up prices across the board on even NON-BT products!
Dude, LOVING the brutal honesty in your latest videos. Preaching the good word here. I can’t tell you how frustrating it is to find these bottles. Not to mention, we now have lovely folks dangling the carrot by auctioning these bottles off, as if they’re a rare gem from the bourbon catacombs... But I love how you give recommendations for good alternatives. The Russels Reserve is a fantastic bottle, and glad that it’s easily accessible. Great stuff man. Looking forward to more angry Jason. Cheers!
This was a really good one, it's about time some reviewers start getting a little critical of all this nonsense. I haven't seen the Single Barrel out in the wild in a couple of years. I still have a half bottle of the Small Batch that I bought in 2017. Eh, tastes like Buffalo Trace with more proof,... certainly not bad at all, but nothing all that special to my tastes. MGP, Heaven Hill, Wild Turkey, and a TON of smaller/craft distilleries out there are putting out stuff that is just as good or better,.... and in most cases you don't have to get your name on some list in order to get them. Give me a high rye MGP all day long,.. I'm on a Smoke Wagon kick right now.
I'm not typically a MGP fan, but I'm with you. Smoke Wagon is pretty decent, I'm stuck on Uncut the Younger right now. The Halloween release last year was pretty good too.
@@BeardMan01The first release of Uncut The Younger was phenomenal, and a great buy for $50. Nowadays I'm more likely to be looking at an offering from Penelope or Backbone than Smoke Wagon, because I think they bring more to the table for the price, but Smoke Wagon is still a solid bet. The Smoke Wagon Blender's Select Rye was a great surprise,...much better than expected.
@@StillLivinginthewoods It costs $39 here, so it's still a decent bargain. I've never really been a big fan of Penelope. Never seen Backbone, I'll have to keep an eye out.
Great episode, I have the Russell's single barrel, Baker's 7 yr,.. 8-yrs 6-mos and the Knob Creek single barrel store pick. All so delicious I bought backups before I finished the first bottle of them. I just discovered the world of bourbon a few months ago and your channel has been super helpful in my bourbon selections, I set a goal of acquiring 15 different bourbons ( may have to bump that number up, lol) and I'm at 14 carefully chosen bottles right now. Number 15 has been tough considering I can't find some picks I'd like to try so I was thinking about maybe giving Michter's a go.
Scored a EHT SB two days before the award got announced and for retail. Saving it for when I get my Masters degree. I’ve been on the look out for this bottle for over a year
I am new to bourbon reviewer channels, but yours is my instant favorite. Just found the EH small batch and jumped on it. Third bottle in my new bourbon collection.
I finally found a bottle of this juice today at our crappy liquor store. Couldn't believe my eyes. Can't wait to try it. Great review as always, Jason.
I gotta say man, you are killing it with these vids. I tried to be into whiskey of all kinds, but my heart told me I’m a bourbon guy. Your channel is my favorite channel by far to help me tweak my bourbon wish list. Keep up the great work.
I've been hunting for this one for over a year and only found it once, and they wanted $100 for the small batch! The best thing about hunting is the gems you find that you were'nt looking for. I just picked up a nice bottle of George Dickel BIB 11 year for $49 and was pleasantly suprised.
Oh, and have tried and enjoyed all of the alternatives you presented except New Riff and Wilderness Trail. Baker's 7 was the first I tried and found out really quick that a slow sip works well. I thought I melted my tonsils first sip. After the second sip I was on my own little bourbon trail. Thanks for the videos. Very respectful of us noobs.
Thanks for the honesty. I have never had an EH Taylor. Not for lack of trying. I won't buy anything from secondary. Maybe I'll come across a bottle someday, but won't be camping out over night just to try to this one anytime soon. Cheers....
Picked up 3 bottles at a grocery store - total of $100 including the exorbitant Washington State taxes. Seems decent but not great - on the other hand I'm pretty much of a newbie. I do enjoy sipping my Blanton's but not quite with all the complexity here but has a very nice taste. I do appreciate you mentioning the other single barrels that you think can compete..... so I will have to get 1 or 2 of those and explore the differences and similarities. I do know the EH Taylor makes a great Boulevardier which may sound goofy to mix it but good liquor makes good cocktails....🙂🙃
Excellent review. In the last 6 months I've seen so many bottles go up in price on the secondary market, it's crazy. Russel's is a great recommendation it's so good.
Definitely one of my favs. I wish the secondary price was cheaper but pricing is what you think it taste to you. Some bottles people claim are $300+ bottles to me aren't worth the glass they are shipped in. To each their own!
Once again Jason, great review! Overpriced bourbon is a waste of money and time. Your choice of Russels and Knob Creek is right on. Keep up the good work!
Solid solid video and info. Love the alternative SB's that should be considered. I was able to help pick a RR barrel for my local liquor store. Turned out amazing (that was a few years ago and now down to my last bottle). What's really amazing is the McKenna went thru the same hoopla like 2yrs ago. And with these Store Pick EH Taylor SB's poppin up. . .watch out! Oh well. Cheers!
I truly appreciate this new series. A lot of allocated stuff and barrel picks have started showing up over the past few weeks. First Buffalo Trace and now Heaven Hill s starting to trickle in. Your opinions (more like expert advice!) couldn't be more timely. Keep rollin' with this. You're a solid counterbalance to my contemplating spending stupidly.
I really enjoyed your honest opinion about this Eh Taylor single barrel. I found one for almost $150, but I agree Knob Creek SB at 120 proof is way better.
Had my first EH Taylor this summer at a restaurant in GA. Was blown away. Expression was not on the menu and server couldn’t tell me which bottle the bartender grabbed. It was hot, but complex and amazing.
Thank you very much for your honesty. My wife is a big buffalo trace fan as elmer is her favorite. we are going on a trip to kentucky for our anniversary. And trying to find bourbons she has not tried yet from buffalo trace or heaven hill her others mayor distellary is the goal. I well take what you said about taylor as that one was on the list just becouse we havent tried it yet.
Absolutely fantastic as always! I’ve only had Colonel E H Taylor small batch once because a bar had it. While I did enjoy it, I’ve never seen any of the variations on the shelf. Thank you for the recommendations of other single barrels. Any of them have similar flavors? I do enjoy the sweet flavor profile of bourbon with an oily mouthfeel.
It's a solid bottle at $60. It WAS my go to bottle a few years ago. I moved on to another great bottle, which I will decline to name. However I will agree with this gentleman's recommendations.
Was able to purchase one today for $79.99 but after adding tax here in Washington state the final price was $99.22. Have had it in the past and have had good and not so good bottles, the same with all single barrel bourbons. Great review as always. I look forward to al of your reviews. Thanks
Love your reviews dude!! My local store had 4 of these 3 weeks ago. I was lucky enough to grab one for 85$. Guess I should've grabbed 2! Keep up the honest reviews!
Damn, just seen the video. EHT is my absolute favorite. I wasn’t even a full 2 minutes in this video, paused it and was texting my boys at the local liquor store politicking for a bottle. I’m already out of Taylor after dipping into my secret secret stash. Didn’t get any last year and now it’s not looking good this year. My boy in Miami just told me it’s selling for $499. Shop owners who gouge the prices ought to be boycotted and shot. Thanks for the info Jason. I’ll be drinking Russell’s single till this calms down.
Subscribed. I couldn’t agree with you more. Been drinking Col Taylor for years and now I can’t find it. Typically any decent bourbon seems to just rocket up. It’s so upsetting. Thank goodness for Michters, 4roses, knob creek, & Willett!
I have still have barrel proof and small batch 750ml I'm in a good spot in glendale hardware store in oregon we can get every high end bottle you can think off I'm only 26 and have had my fair share of drinking from buffalo trace to elmer t. Lee from eagle rare and rebel 100. From Weller 12 to 107 and even bob Dylans whiskey. My favorite is elmer t. Lee its very smooth on the pallet with an oaky finish goes down like you wouldn't expect with no burn at all
I had to travel 4hrs to pickup an EHT SiB and it was still 1.5x retail and this was 2 weeks ago. I’m now 100% confident I will not find another bottle anytime soon and this competition press release saying it’s worth $235 is complete bullshit. I too believe this is a $100 at best and I’d pay a little more to secure a bottle. $235 is just f@&$!?& RIDICULOUS!
I was lucky back in 2017 when I was really into Bourbon I got to know store owner who sold me a EH Taylor single barrel but it was a barrel proof & cost $70 + . I loved it & still have 3/4 of the bottle left. I must of known it was a winner way back than & I will dust it off & have a little sip. Thanks
One year after this review, I found my first bottle today. $110 off the shelf. Had to pull the trigger. For a quick reference I already have over 90 bottles of whiskey, so plenty of points of reference as far as flavor profiles. As far as Buffalo Trace products, I’ve only had the namesake, EHT Small Batch, Eagle Rare, Blanton’s, and President’s Reserve. Oh man, this particular EHT single barrel is so good! I’d trade all my Sam Houston’s two for one, as I like this so much more. Maybe I just got lucky. Dunno.
Fantastic video! I've personally never had the Single Barrel, but with the Small Batch being pretty available in my area for about $40 I dont feel like I'm missing much

@@TheMashandDrum I just recent was turned on to a TW store pick of Russell's and OMG, was blown away. It was a 10+ year age and just rich and delicious. Also, while not a SiB, the OF 1920 is also very solid and worth the $59 I pay for it. Great review sir, between this and your overrated and overhyped video from a couple wees ago, you've earned yourself a new sub!!!!
My dad got a bottle of the EHTaylor Small Batch a few years ago, the state ABC board had "Pappy Day" where they did get 2 bottles of Pappy (20 I think) along with other allocated stuff. My dad was off that day so he went and got in line, about 40 or 50 people deep, so obviously there was none of the super fancy stuff left, but he ended up with the EHT and it was nice, I enjoyed drinking it with him. Paid retail as well. I hate all the secondary tater-ism
I was lucky enough to get a bottle of this at MSRP a few weeks back. Immediately opened it and A-B compared with the EHT Small Batch. They're pretty much identical, and the Single Barrel is definitely not 50% better than the Small Batch as the price would suggest.
Picked up a bottle today at retail $59.99 so retail prices haven't jumped up in a year here in 2020. Can't wait to get home and try it, I tend to like the sweet stuff, this year's Sam Houston 14 is delicious.
Nice! Jason- Non Chill & UN-FILTERED! Thanks for voicing the frustrations of the bourbon community. As you said, there’s so many choices out there to try. Maybe if it starts sitting on the shelves (doubtful) could start to make a difference 🤔 Cheers 🥃
I just got one of these last week for 61 after tax. Still good liquor store owners out there! Lastly, I have had a few eh sib in the past and agree with you on the judges got a honey barrel. Some are gems some are small batch in disguise. Thanks for putting some clarity on this. Cheers
Damn that is crazy!! You nailed it on the head of what is about to happen. Thank you for showing alternatives. Great videos and great comments, keep it up man!!! In your opinion, what would you pay $235 for? I dont know if I could pull my self to that amount......
I had never heard of this bourbon (I only knew of small batch and full proof) but I was at GE during opening this weekend and I bought one for $56. I opened it up and loved it.
Moved from Boston where this bottle was easily in the $160-200 range to a small town in western Massachusetts and found it at a tiny with a little family liquor store that was selling it for $80! They didn’t even know how to say the name of it correctly, I felt like I was stealing it almost. I’d put it as a step up from Eagle Rare and the Henry McKenna. I don’t think it’s worth $160 plus in Boston, but if you can find it outside of a major city and it’s 120$ or less I’d say jump on it and buy it. Great drink!
I found one on the shelf here in Fargo, ND on 2/6/21 for $63.99...first time I’ve ever seen the SB. Any E.H. Taylor is always a “see it, buy it” for me!
Excellent, keep it going with these honest review and facts! I'm really tired of these so called judges at these whiskey comp's, where they keep picking these single barrel or "honey" barrels as overall winners! It's just dumb, just let them be the winner in single barrel category! They have turned these comp's in to some commercialized or promo event, which causes a lot of people to go chasing then next new hyped whiskey! It just needs to stop! Thanks again for honest review!
Here in Ontario, Canada I managed to score 2 of these bottles for $90 each, before the award was announced. There were 5 in total when I walked into the flagship LCBO in central Toronto, and there was no shelf tag so no price listed (they must have just received them). When I had to ask and found out the price, and I had just received some birthday money, I decided to go for 2. I assumed they were the small batch, which is more common but usually still part of allocations, so I was pleasantly surprised when I realized they were actually single barrel, an expression I haven't had before. Probably my best find next to a 10yr Michters since I started looking for rarer releases!
I liked this format. Straight info, solid point of view. No clutter. Hope to see more. Thanks.

@@dapacreative I feel like I have to do that as a reviewer. There are alot of great bottles that are available
Love the secondary options. These videos are great!
Great video Jason! Way to keep pulling the curtain back from those whiskey wizards.
Keep these videos coming.
Keep up the good work. Everyone needs to vent once in a while. It feels good! 👍🥃
Hit the nail on the head my man. And 100 percent agree on russels reserve SB picks. Amazing bourbon.
NCF Jason is my favorite Jason. Preach brother. Great alternatives as well! Russell's, Knob Creek, and New Riff are faves of mine.
I was lucky enough to get a bottle of this at MSRP a few weeks back. Immediately opened it and A-B compared with the EHT Small Batch. They're pretty much identical, and the Single Barrel is definitely not 50% better than the Small Batch as the price would suggest.
Yet another outstanding honest review!
Damn happy to see you do this kind of series.
Picked up a bottle today at retail $59.99 so retail prices haven't jumped up in a year here in 2020. Can't wait to get home and try it, I tend to like the sweet stuff, this year's Sam Houston 14 is delicious.
Agree about the sam Houston
Thanks for your review! It's a pity I haven't found this in Belarus yet
Nice! Jason- Non Chill & UN-FILTERED! Thanks for voicing the frustrations of the bourbon community. As you said, there’s so many choices out there to try. Maybe if it starts sitting on the shelves (doubtful) could start to make a difference 🤔
Cheers 🥃
I just got one of these last week for 61 after tax. Still good liquor store owners out there! Lastly, I have had a few eh sib in the past and agree with you on the judges got a honey barrel. Some are gems some are small batch in disguise. Thanks for putting some clarity on this. Cheers
Damn that is crazy!! You nailed it on the head of what is about to happen. Thank you for showing alternatives. Great videos and great comments, keep it up man!!! In your opinion, what would you pay $235 for? I dont know if I could pull my self to that amount......
Well hate to bring up BT but William Larue Weller is probably the one bourbon I would pay more for. It's always delicious and consistent every year.
Get’em, Jason! Thank you for calling out the crazy and absurd shit that happens way too often in the bourbon industry.
Thank you. Another great video. Keep it up
Great review, thanks for the advice .... bourbon lovers need to keep calm and cool to keep the price of our beloved bourbon down
I had never heard of this bourbon (I only knew of small batch and full proof) but I was at GE during opening this weekend and I bought one for $56. I opened it up and loved it.
At 65 its great.
Got my bottle In Walmart today as a Sazerac store pic. Beautiful find for $62.00!!
Great review, thanks for keeping it real and telling it like it is!
Fantastic review and so true about the price gouging. Glad to see some honest opinions or the value of a very decent but not superior bourbon.
Just picked this up for $45 on the shelf. Would definitely buy again if I can find it. Took about a month to get my hands on it.
