First time watching one of your videos. I like how you break down the difference prices you’d pay sometimes I struggle on prices. Now I need to try the rye.
Glad you liked it, yeah we thought it’d be a cool series to start regarding our opinions on bottles we see out there going for crazy prices. Thanks for your support!
I wish I had your luck or most people who manage to secure any bottle at MSRP! I've had a hand full and it was just dumb luck early in my bourbon journey. Now I pick and choose my best secondary prices from local stores when available. Just bought a Stagg Jr 24C for $175, normally in my area ( NE IL) they go for $300 plus if you don't have a relationship with your store. Cheers guys
Nice video - I agree on the Small Batch vs Single Barrel. I choose small batch every time over single barrel. I actually find the single barrel's to be a little too harsh for my liking, where as the small batch blending takes all that out and leaves me with an awesome pour.
Great review on the Taylor's. I like your thoughts on pricing. In addition, it is hard for me to spend over $100 for a bottle of whiskey and it better be really good. To much good stuff on the shelves between $50-$100...
Last week in Reno I got a Small Batch from a big-box-store for $63 and a Single Barrel from a Nevada grocery store for $109 (first time I'ver ever seen one).
Last several days has been an EH Taylor hall. 1st, i won a mystery box through a liquor store (350) and came with 3 bottles. 1 angels Envy, 1 old Louisville, and 1 EH Taylor Barrel Proof batch 12. A week later, Total wine had a drop. Picked up 2 EH Ryes, 1 single barrel. Same day i went to a local mom & pop and they had 2 EH Taylor Barrel proffs for 180 each. Said that was there 1st time getting them. Boughr both as lowest ive seen for 2nd ary. Usually 400-500. They also had some EH Rye's for 125 but i left them (might go back). This week drops also at Bevmo. Licked up 2 EH Ryes (80 each) & a single barrel (90). On Friday, i got a tip that my local Costco got a drop. Turned our to be EH Taylor Barrel proof for $72 limit 1. Git that and a Bookers 04 ($80) & Larceny C924 (52). Went to a short ways away to local grocery store and they also had some. Picked up 1 EH Rye (80) & 1 EH Single. All and all 4 EH Taylor barrels proofs 3 EH single Barrels 4 EH Rye's What a week.
@@dominiccampos7297 wow. Just wow. I doubt I've ever seen that many bottles of Taylor, much less at a good price. Everyone says Costco has drops. I'm at mine weekly and they never have that nice of bottles for sale.
My EHT SiB must’ve been a unicorn because it was like drinking caramel and honey from the lips of an angel. Still got two on the shelf but saving them for a special occasion. SB isn’t even in the same class.
E.H. Tater is exactly right. All the times I've been able to try the Small Batch, it's always been good. However, I'd never pay anything more than MSRP for it. Too many other good pours out there, many of which are demonstrably stronger value buys. In any case, I prefer Eagle Rare to EH Taylor Small Batch. If given the choice between the two, I'll always pick up Eagle Rare. Now if I ever saw EH Taylor Single Barrel or Barrel Proof at MSRP, sure I'd get them. I doubt the market will cool down enough for something like that to happen though. You are also correct that very few top shelf offerings match up with their insane secondary prices. It's simply that many of the top shelf bottles are Veblen goods now. Which has turned so many limited bottles into trade fodder and status symbols, you know, instead of opening and enjoying the whiskeys for what they are. 🤷♂
Exactly. The label and marketing is what drives these prices crazy. But it’s about the juice! We buy to drink. But even if we want a certain bottle for a vid, we have a hard time paying too much over MSRP. We better really like the bottle, or it’s the first time we’ve seen it at a certain price. But you are 100% right. Whiskey is for drinking and shared. That’s the whole point in this venture! Thanks for watching!🥃
Your video came across my feed! I run a local discord whiskey group with a bunch of great, smart guys in WA. We always call out drops, collection updates, as well as get together for whiskey tastings / events. Let me know if yall want to join it!
Honestly for me single barrel hits so good for me. Maybe I’ve had some honey barrels but I don’t disagree that small batch is just always a good blend.
Past experience would say small batch is better than single barrel, but my current bottle of single barrel is SOOO GOOD. Much better than small batch. It's just different...
Fellow WA drinkers? It's hell in WA because of our taxes but EH Taylor is one of my absolute favorites, especially Barrel Proof. I love the SiB quite a lot, but maybe its because all the SiB I have had are very fruit forward which is what I love, whereas SmB is more caramel and vanilla forward. Cheers!
Yessir! A couple PNW boys! If I could have any of the BT lineup be regularly available it would be E.H. Taylor Small Batch. Such a reliable and Interesting pour. Deserves to be in every bar. We are waiting for that single barrel that blows us away. But the barrel proof really is amazing! Thanks for watching!🥃
I’m in WA too, and December has been bountiful for Buffalo Trace. I feel like I’m single handedly fixing our state budget shortfall. Got the following at MSRP: 2 - GTS 1 - EHT Barrel Proof 1 - Stagg Jr 24C 3 - Elmer T Lee
@@BentleyPascoe If you’re in Pasco I’m just a bit north of you in Central WA. When I asked the lady at the register if she had anything special, she said she got a couple Staggs in the hour prior. I asked if I could get them both, thinking it was Stagg Jr and she says sure. When she comes out of the office with the GTS tall bottles it was an absolute 👁️ 👄 👁️ moment.
I’d only go MSRP on any of them. And I’m a single barrel guy then the full proof the rye isn’t anything special is it okay sure but there are so many other options that are better and cheaper.
Jack Daniel’s barrel profs both the bourbon( whiskey) and ryes are freaking phenomenal for under 100 always. Store picks are even a bit better. If you can get your hands on one or both don’t hesitate. Your welcome 👍👍👍
MSRP for small batch is not $40, you’re lucky to get it under 60. Sorry guys you were in your credibility when you don’t have the facts I drink these whiskey’s all the time and I only buy them at MSRP. Small batch is MSRP around 70 single barrel about 90 and cast strength 110 don’t buy the rye, it’s crap
First off, a quick google search will tell you MSRP for E.H. Taylor Small Batch is around $45-$50. Doesn’t matter what you can find it for, that’s the value Buffalo Trace puts on it. Single barrel MSRP is absolutely not $90. That’s $20 over. And finally I had no idea there was a cask strength E.H Taylor. Cheers🥃
@@BrothersBarrel Smb barely over 40, Sib 55, Straight Rye & EHTBP 79 here in Michigan. Never heard of cask strength either. That being said, bottles are worth what people want to pay for them or what they can afford. Cheers.

Ouch. It’s rough out there for sure. And good prices are long and far between. But keep exploring. You’ll find decent deals out there!🥃

I’d have to agree. We are opposite with every other Buffalo Trace SiB product. But the EH Taylor’s I prefer the Small batch. Glad we’re not alone!🥃

Anything over $100 is price gouging and targeted marketing.
The value and labor involved better be there if it’s over $100
