HOI4: What Was The Point of The Old Italian Focus Tree?

Today in Hearts of Iron IV, with the release of BBA Italy has gotten a new focus tree, however we will be looking at the old focus tree one last time to see what it was about, see what's good and what's bad and to see if this tree was really as bad as everyone said it was.
Along the way the Novus Imperium Romanum shall be formed and Italy will expand her influence throughout the Mediterranean, this will have it's own problems as Italy's "diplomats" will develop an unusual tendency.

Well there goes the old tree, used it many times but now there is a brand new tree, one far more indepth than this tree could ever hope to be. The NSB era is over, long live BBA. I know it just ended but I'm gonna miss the NSB era of HOI4, whether or not BBA lives up to it is still to be seen.

I think you captured it perfectly how strong Italy was before BBA, I mean you took all the troll focuses too with befriend XY and still got half of the allies in the peace confrence.

It got created in the first release when focus trees were meant to be basic and not too in-depth (example: basic ideology change, basic expansion, basic economy)

Italy has been the tutorial nation for a while also, perfect to showcase the game's basic mechanics in the early game.
Is'nt a first playtrhough with Italy's old rusty focus tree a shared experience of all HOI4 player ?

My first game was as Guatemala lol, even as a tutorial nation the old tree got worse and worse as more was added and added.

Mine is Brazil, I just went naval, and sent an Aircraft carrier with no planes that got sunk, the only thing that my navy really did was sink some ships, run out of supply, and eventually got stuck in the Med when Gibraltar fell, then Venezuela and Peru joins the Axis and had to fight a pretty brutal jungle war that thought my the value of attrition, eventually Germany won against USSR and well it was stalemate for the Axis and Allies, Japan fell and so did my computer, this was back before Waking the tiger from what I remember lol.

Italy basically just became harder but with more potential, before it was easier because you didn’t need to pacify Ethiopia, had more leeway to restructure your army and Ethiopia was weaker
