RIP Leslie! Yes, Corky is a GREAT story teller and very insightful about the history of it all during the late 60's through the 80's musically speaking.
Çorky is still a great musician ,he and Carmine Appice are good friends and have that monster drumming ,Hendrix loved Mountain at Woodstock ,I remember the talk after the concert Alvin Lee and then years After with Johnny winter were excellent at Woodstock also , peace to corky Lang a killer drummer GOD BLESS TA ALL IM STILL PLAYIN DRUMS N SINGING AT 70 I LOVE MISSISSIPPI QUEEN ONE OF THE BEST SONGS

Without Doubt One Of The Greatest Live Bands That i Ever Saw. And Man Corky Was Awesome To Listen To And Watch....Incidently The TV Programme Was Called Weekend World.... So Every Sunday Nantucket Slieghride Blasted Out Of UK Tv's
I was fortunate to be in the front of the crowd for West, Bruce & Laing in Boulder Colorado in +/- '73. Corkey needed sledge hammers to play his kit...to this day that is the loudest band I ever saw, compared to the dozens I've seen. It was like sticking my head in a jet engine. They were good that night, I think they played w/ Little Feat. Everybody was definitely amped up on weed and assorted potions. Thanks, appreciated.
Wow, it is like when I saw Van Halen before they made it big and they were called, "Mammoth." Man, they were great, but the p.a. was so freaking loud my head felt like it was going to blow right off my neck! WHY did musicians back then have to play so freaking loud?
I listened to one of Ginger Baker's interviews that Jack Bruce and he used to argue a lot about Jack's high volume levels. According to the late Ginger Baker, there was one time during a Cream concert, due to a power failure, or something, where Eric and Ginger stopped playing and Jack didn't even know it for a while! He just kept blasting away. Amazing, eh? And Jack was a cello player too. You would think he would have known better. Guitar players are usually the problem when it comes to volume, right? Not bass player. I am a long time bass player and I actually enjoy playing at very soft volumes, because then you can really hear what everyone is expressing musically. Playing loud is a well known way of trying to cover up sloppy playing and mistakes. I think so! LOL
@@horrorkungfutheatre0 part of the deal back in the day was they all played Marshall's, High Watts, Ampeg's etc. So the PA had to compete against "that". I'm sure drummers couldn't hear a damn thing. I remember my ears ringing for 24 hours.....I wised up after that and brought ear plugs just in case. Appreciated.
@@horrorkungfutheatre0 you are correct about Bruce & playing volume....I'm a guitarist- no need to crank it up. Allot of gigs I played if the PA was loud I had to side kick an amp (2 bi-amped Fender Twins) otherwise I wouldn't bother to mic my amps.
Great drummer and a great story teller... I saw Corky with Leslie West band in Houston, Tx. I think it was 1975, they opened for Ten Years After, man what a great concert. keep on rockin Corky
I've heard the name, alot. But I couldn't put a face with the name until now. And realizing what music he is part of creating, he is definitely a top shelf drummer, to say the least !
Loved the way he plays drums.Saw him many times with Mountain and W B L.He would play so hard he would chip his sticks and bounce them some how off his kit into the crowd and grab new one from a big can of them with out missing a beat. Was able to get a couple of them, they had his name printed on the side of the stick.Dont know what happened to them, wish I still had them. They had a big following in Detroit, always a packed house and a great show.Thank for the music and memories Corky.
What an awesome, unexpected interview.... Corky is not a big name, very underrated drummer...makes for an unknown treasure of experiences by an expert in the field of rock music. As a drummer I will tell you that Corky's understanding of beat placement, is actual playing, is mastery!
Who knew? I saw Mountain in 1072 at the Capital Theater in Portchester, NY they were great!!! I didn’t know that Corky was the drummer? I knew about Leslie & Felix, so I guess Corky was in the band at that time? BTW Isaw them at Woodstock too, but not a vivid memory of that? Anyway, this guy is an incredible story teller-funny, humble, etc. Love this interview🥰🥰🥰🥰 Just played it out of boredom & a great find!!! Definitely should have more views, but like I said-Who Knew?
Saw Mountain 4 times, 1970,1971,and twice in 72. The live shows were incredible. The power rattled your bones. From 68 to 77 that was my whole life. Seeing every band that I liked. You would hard pressed to come up with a group that I didn't see during that time period.
What a GREAT interview. I had no idea that Corky is a lot more than just a great drummer. He first of all comes across as a very decent, funny and humble guy that was also a very talented songwriter and lyricist, despite what he says. This guy deserves to be a lot more famous that he is!
Excellent Interview! I was fortunate to see Corky and Leslie West perform live on several occasions ( Dallas in the 1990s, LA in 2007), and the positive sparks were always flying of the stage - magic times !

Very cool stories, thanks for sharing. Glad you enjoyed the interview, hundreds more interviews I've done with legendary rock stars on my channel too 👍🤘
Lovely interview with Corky! I am definitely getting his book..Love these books that are written outside your typical rock star fashion of drinking, destroying hotel rooms and groupies..We all dig that stuff but it’s really boring after the 1st tale told..I really enjoy your interviews Paul and dig these videos..Thank you for the Rock N Roll history with Corky
Great interview. I've never heard of the guy, but what as raconteur. Good interviewing, too...ask the question, shut up. Another rock biog goes on the list!
Welcome aboard the good ship VRP Rocks! It's a one man channel ( Hey, my name is Paul) and I've been interviewing classic rock legends for years. There's over 300 videos on my channel and I post a classic rock poll every single day as well 👍🤘
In the late '70s, I saw mountain at the old Waldorf in Frisco, papillardi wasn't on that tour, however, the place was a small venue and it was a phenomenal show, during Corky's drum solo. He bounced a jumpstick off of one of his tomtoms, and that proceeded that bought me right upside the head! My friend Keith who is standing beside me actually caught the stick..... I believe he still has it, anyway. 25 years later or so. Keith and his son, my son Matt and myself saw mountain at a venue called the Orange blossom junction in a little town called Exeter, California, I don't think the place held a hundred people, nevertheless, the show was epic. And after the show corky Lang was doing autographs, I approached him with my son Matt, and told him about the incident years earlier at the Waldorf, it was hella funny and he was laughing as well, just a down-to-earth guy and definitely one of the greatest drummers that ever came along!!
Optics are all giant video screen today. It's all gone to hell. theatre rock is all but dead. Who the hell wants to watch a concert on a giant TV from 250 from the stage? Not I . the corporates and the greedy musicians threw it all away to play 30 or 40 dates a year in the summer in big fields called sheds on pole barn foundations
One of the ALL TIME GREATEST DRUMMERS in ROCK HISTORY. Corky Laing.
Yes he is...
Corky is a great story teller and drummer.
Leslie was also a great story teller

The stories from these old rockers need to be archived. You don't even need to be a fan of their particular genre...their life-journeys are legendary.

Corky is such a friggin' character... I love listening to his stories. I'll have to pick up his book! Great interview!
Leslie West was a character too! Could you imagine being on the road with those guys in the day? Must've been absolutely hilarious 😅😂
Just repeating what’s been said. This guy is a tornado on the drums. Serious business! 👍
What a great guy! The stories and exposure to all the new musicians and music of the day! Fantastic!
Corky's 'roll call of some of the great and famous' is indeed an envious one! He has kept some illustrious company, that's for sure!!😊😊
Yes no question! And thankyou!!
What an excellent presentation. Laing comes across as a fine human being, telling a colourful story without ego.

One of the purist raw rock songs ever recorded, the whole song is one complete hook.

Bro..can you interview Glenn Hughes??
Who played bass in the New Mountain?
Pappalardi was Always the bass player in Mountain.
Many Party Nights With The Corkster and Clark, and a few other nefarious characters!
What's the name of his book 📖?
'Letters To Sarah'
Leslie has another version of the Hendrix story. But then again Les is dead, so he can't call Cork and straighten him out.
God Bless Them All.
Corky lives in Finland??
Yes.
I think Corky got it right the first time... "That band 'SPERMED'".
I got a fever and there's only one prescription....
Leslie tells the same story but with Never in my Life
Theme from an imaginary western
Corky sounds like New Yorker...not a Canadian...
