@@ChristopherOddI may be a bit late but the genre is bullet heaven, it’s the opposite of bullet hell, you are the thing throwing a billion projectiles.
The chests are dropped when the stronger enemies (e.g., glowing bat, giant mantis, etc.) are killed. It 's a good idea to prioritize them to get the drops.
A few non spoiler tips (only stating things you have seen so far): -You get six "actives" and six "passives" (you can see them top left) -When you pause the game, you can see the level of each items and their max (usually the weapons are eight max and the passives are five max) -Do not stress too much about collecting ALL gems dropped. The game has a mechanic that causes a super red gem drop by you (or an attractor pickup) that basically totals all off screen gems (usually happens to me during the 11 minute bone rush) -Treasure chests only upgrade what you have. If everything is upgrade, you receive more gold -Do not get too obsessed about DPS. In general, the lower the weapon area, the more damage it is going to do. However, as you found out, the bible is great for hordes, even if the DPS isn't as much. - Always consciously see the item you are selecting at level ups. So many times, I have accidently selected an option i didn't want because I just assumed it was selected but it was not due to me pushing right when the level up menu popped up. - The blue highlighted creatures are a more powerful version of the base creature that shall either drop a red gem, a special item, or a chest. My playing tips (ignore if you want to try your own style): - first ten minutes of the forest, always prepare for the 11 minute hoard. I usually try to get either the Bible or the other PBAOE weapon (won't spoil it since you haven't found it yet) leveled up quickly as the skeletons, though plentiful, are very weal so either of them leveled up enough lets you walk through them. - experiment with different weapon combinations. There were some weapons that I didn't like at first but when I paired them with another weapon, they fit so nicely.
@@robofish312 No. Those aren't spoilers. Case in point, "Do not stress too much about collecting all gems dropped". That's not a spoiler, that's _advice._
The only tip you really need is to always be killing and leveling up like you mentioned, the enemies are time-based so the game is all about staying ahead of the curve with your power level. Everything else should be fun to just explore and find out on your own.
Hey, super glad to see you play this. I actually picked this up after Midnight Suns also! My tip: Play until you don't know how to progress, and then only do a small amount of research. You'll understand how it works after getting only a little info, and then you can explore further. Some of it is a little esoteric, but its more fun if you don't have a checklist.
All enemy waves are purely based on time. Also, glad you are doing it since Luckless finished his run. Nice to watch someone from the beginning again :).
You did a great job on your first run actually. The skeleton wave was really hard for me to get over and killed me a few times when I first started playing. You were right to focus on making a few weapons strong at the start. You need that power to get through the skeleton wave.
So happy to see you playing this! Don't want to give too many tips because a lot of the fun here is figuring this stuff out! How about this though: you can upgrade your weapons, if you have the right passives....
I would say "Thanks"... except I think you've tanked my productivity for the near future. DL'd this on Steam right after watching your vid earlier and proceeded to play it non-stop for 5+ hours. So addicting!!! Glad you made us aware of this gem!
I discovered this game 5 days ago and I'm hooked AS Fuuuu Also, enemies onscreen can all be killed, but if you don't horde them and run away from them, once they go offscreen a bit they will respawn from the way you are goin, and have all health back.
Heck yeah! Love seeing you pick this up, definitely a huge surprise hit for me, and quickly became one of my favorite games of the last few years. This is way better than it has any right to be, and is the most addictive game that aggressively chooses not to monetize its addictiveness, and I respect the developer for that a lot.
SO genuinely excited to watch you play this, Odd! Seems absolutely up your alley, and I can't wait for the chaotic, stressful rambling that's sure to come.
Hah, nduja is an Italian spicy spreadable salami - great choice for the fire fritter 😂 This looks like the kind of game I'd love on a handheld - even better if it was a smaller, more portable one than Steam Deck, bc I think I'd love this during my commute. Might have to get it for my Switch Lite when it comes out...
The Best advice i can give since your just starting is keep unlocking more levels and and grab each Relic as you go. Each one unlocks a new feature. You have 6 weapon slots and 6 passive slots, every item in this game COMBOS with something else, so feel free to experiment. Generally you want be IN THE MIDDLE of everything, but don't be afraid to "kite" the enemies around. ALWAYS grab those Chests, they will always give you an upgrade to the stuff you have. As the steam page itself says "grab a few weapons to start with", get them to max lvl as soon as possible is generally a good start. The Blue enemies and BIG enemies will drop the CHESTS if you kill them, they are just extra tough enemies.
This is the most addictive game I have ever played. I had no idea you made a Let's Play for this. Garlic+Santa Water+Pentagram is OP early game btw... I always play as the nun
My wife at the end of the video: "Just one attempt?" So we're in! IMO, Vampire Survivors is about finding out how certain weapons and items turn into OP combos, and what's nice is there are plenty of combos out there.
A few things to keep in mind. Dark Blue gems give the lowest experience, light green gems give medium experience, and red gems give high experience. Your gold carries over after each run, your experience doesn't. Greed is a good early game upgrade to take. All light sources drop items that are good, some are better than others, and you haven't seen all the options yet. There is an even better chest that you did not get yet. Chests are effectively bonus levels and drop from bosses that have a higher health pool. Garlic, especially Garlic level 2 is very good for a beginner, at higher levels it is not so useful. Curse is used at higher levels when you have enough of an understanding of the game to be able to take on the extra enemies and live so therefore get the extra experience that they drop.
So far, I've enjoyed this game without looking up any guides on how to progress. The game is pretty good at dropping hints of what you might want to explore next. Discovery is a lot of the fun. Hopefully chat doesn't spoil too much for you.
This is one of my favorite games. explore menus, look at all the descriptions. have a blast trying to build a god! Each level will have artefacts that will give you access to new systems. arrows on your screen will always point to something good.
The silver glowy ones are NOT indistructable- they are the bosses that drop the CHESTS! Its important to be killing them ASAP so the next ones will spawn in faster.
I can give a tip without spoiling. There are combinations of items which upgrade one of the two items. It will trigger when you have the weapon on lvl 10 and than open the chest. Have fun i love that game
Now that you've played the game. Go back and watch those videos you saw before you played the game. Your new perspective will surprise you. This is one of those game you have to play at least once.
Odd id love to see you play crusader kings 3 and there are tons of cool mods and all that to give yourself a unique experience but each playthrough is too
What was strange with my first playthrough is that i only failed about twice pre 10 min mark , then after that i made it all the way to the end of a run , every time. kind of weird pacing for me , because that meant after the first 20 mins of playing the rest of the game was a cakewalk
Oh no! I played this all over the Christmas holidays. I was discussing it with a friend and he asked how many characters I had unlocked. "Umm... 17!" "That's less than half..." 😮 I hope you don't have anything important to do for get next few weeks. Just to ahead and cancel all meetings while you're at it. Oh, and it's available on iPad. You probably shouldn't have access to something this addictive in every room of your house, on transit and anywhere you go at any time...
Like me sleeping on Mass Effect franchise on comments way back when you were doing a ME 3 play through, you good sir have definitely been sleeping on this one and missing out Also isn't it amazing how a very simple game, with simple well executed ideas and good realisation of them and good music, easily trumps nearly any and all triple AAA games hands down
Move speed does nothing much. Yes it can get you out of tight spots at times, but if you prioritize damage, you will create space to not get into tight spots in the first place. IMO, the best upgrades to target first are amount and luck. You can always play around, as the refunds are free.
Just got the final dlc for Vampire Survivors and got inspired to look for content. Seeing a good gamer grapple with the game from the start is gonna be fun.
For future watchers that may not have played the game there are swarms every few minutes that serve as a dps check/farming wave. Knowing they're coming after your first few runs and setting up to efficiently work through them is one of the first steps to getting "gud." Knowing Mr. Odd he'll be on top of it by episode 3 at the latest, maybe 2. Edit: p.s. it's pretty much expected you won't complete the first few runs.
I rarely 100% a game, even ones I play a ton. I have for this and the DLC. My advice: Don't read too much about what to do or how things work. Keep doing what you were doing here. You'll keep getting more understanding, then that will unlock the next step of the path. The reward here is having unlocked the massive cast of characters and items and having runs where you literally can not die. Enjoy, Odd!
You're playing it right. You'll die many many times. Kill enemies, collect gold, unlock items and characters, evolve weapons by picking the correct passive item, become a GOD, repeat. HAVE FUN!
well you fell for it, good luck getting anything done irl, for builds just do and experiment, dont look too hard on the DPS some are better for surviving and Good luck No LIfe KIng
This game is a lot more in depth than it looks. Be sure to prioritize unlocking new maps and picking up relics! That will help you progress quicker
Awesome, thanks!

And so another soul falls to this absolute gem of a game.
Really nailed the outro there! Looks great fun, very dome-keeper esque, should be fun to watch while you're in between major games.
fantastic to see you picking up this game! have fun in discovering everything

Dome and this are the ones I'm enjoying immensely currently and switching between them depending on my mood. But yeah both are so addictive.

Enjoyed watching that a lot. Looks like it’s going to get more and more hectic and frankly, I’m here for it. Good stuff Chris!
I am very happy you are finally playing this game!!! Just more fantastic Odd content for me to watch!!!
Cute, love the theme! But Brotato looks stylisher and Bio Prototype is way more customizable, so nahh;o)
All enemy waves are purely based on time.

You did well for your first run! looking forward to seeing more of this!
Watching you play this is super funny. I haven't played it but I have seen the genre and your confusion is great.

YES!!! FINALLY odd is playing vampire survival
"How high do the levels go?"
*flashback to my money farming run with a dlc character that went way beyond level 500*
Yes.
Heck yeah!

I can't believe you missed out on this until now. Absolute genius game once you get into it
VS, starts slow, but then the escalations have escalations. The Unlocks and Secrets menu give you hints on how to build.
Lol! That is the most wholesome, wonderful ending ramble.

😎👍
Thanks for introducing me to VS!
You are going to be so addicted to this game! I love it!
This seems super cool, a castlevania like bullethell roguelike
Commander Odd and Vampire Survivors??? Today is a good day.

YESSSS!
"Sorry UA-cam comments, but the vampire you're looking for is in another coffin! Christopher Odd has joined the Survivors!"
such a fun game! been addicted to it the past few weeks!

Welcome to the familia.
Lol
Such a simple game! At least it looks like it! But it's actually an amazing stuff, with lots of depth, strategy, skills.
More of this please
The addiction begins!
Are you going to do Dome keeper video? They got a update where now there are boss like enemy. Not a major update but stilll good one

I tried this after seeing another Let's Player play it. But It really isn't my thing. I like watching it, hate playing it. Have fun, Chris! :)
It is an awesome game. Hopefully the sales get boosted now.
This game really is like a drug. The first hit is all you need before you're in.
HE'S BACK
Exciting times ahead.
Gems gud bats bad YEP
Best way to play this game is not to look anything up. just explore and survive
I'll be watching these!
Bullet heaven, as opposed to bullet hell, is my preferred name for this genre. I am also an addict.
Best outro ever
You're playing it right. You'll die many many times. Kill enemies, collect gold, unlock items and characters, evolve weapons by picking the correct passive item, become a GOD, repeat. HAVE FUN!
Legend!
Man, I never got any achievements from finding floor chicken! Only stomach cramps.
Hi Odd, You are going to enjoy this one.
I looove this game. I've played so many hours and it was like 3 dollars
This game is so damned perfect on the Steam Deck.
Ha. It's pretty great.
I love the super awkward outro lol
Well well. And I just returned back to Survivors
"reverse bullet hell" i believe the genre is called.
Shouldn't it instead be called "bullet heaven?"
well you fell for it, good luck getting anything done irl, for builds just do and experiment, dont look too hard on the DPS some are better for surviving and Good luck No LIfe KIng
This was my Garlic of the Year (GotY) of 2022. Have fun.
Best $5 spent on any game in a long time.
Ag no, this game would bore me to tears in 5 mins. When was it made, like 30 years ago?
Just downloaded this on Mobile its great fun
Someone probably already suggested it but…U should stream it
Welcome to the addiction
Bible+Garlic=Best Item
