    😶
    FWIW Pete Herrel also said Cleetus should run 9 maybe 10 quarts, to help his oil issue.
    Would be bad, when not going hard down the track, though.
    Don't forget your filter capacity, lines to and from turbo, and accumulator. I'd run 8 quarts, with that setup.
    I run the tall LS filters, when not running a clear view.

      The accumulator will take some oil to fill but I want to find the correct level so I when I open up the accumulator I can fill it back to the correct mark on the dip stick. Yeah if I ran 7 in the pan it would probably take another qt to fill the accumulator I would imagine.

    Once its running you can probably get by with over 7 because once the pump starts pumping surely it's down a good bit

    • @Burndown
      @Burndown  2 місяці тому +1

      Yeah that makes sense. The pumped oil will take a little time to drain back so the level won't ever really be up to the crank I guess with 7 qts.

      You'll have to put a go pro in there and see what happens

    Good thinking, making sure your oil level is set properly .

      Well guessing it is with a visual inspection so I know what it looks like with oil in it.

    I just recently bought a cheap steel ruler with a ton of drill tap sizes. I ran the suggested dipstick with the holley 302-1 which said full at 5 quarts. I was thinking of running an oil cooler for the extra capacity. Lastly I screwed the factory oil filter screw on and used the ls filter. There is a difference in size of the 2006 truck filter from the 02 filter. Don't recall which is which. I usually look then both up.

      Yes the have a bit larger oil filter but I don't know off the top of my head what the number for that one was.

    Don't forget to take into consideration that you have a turbo with an oil line and an oil cooler + it's lines. After initial fire up it will probably need topped off? Or I would think so.

    • @Burndown
      @Burndown  2 місяці тому +1

      The turbo holds a little oil and so do the lines. They are small tho. I don't have a cooler but I do have an accumulator. Yes I'll check it after I start it up as well.

    I run 7 quarts with that style pan

    • @Burndown
      @Burndown  2 місяці тому +1

      The Holley pan this is a copy of calls for 5.5 so that's even less then the 6 I normally run. I did have it around 7 when I had the issue with it at RMRW last year and it seems like that would be right at the bottom of the crank without the motor running. I bet the fluid level drops a bit with suction on the pump and waiting on the return oil flow.

  • @richardweihert6233

    I wonder if you would have bolted the windage tray into the block used a straight edge to measure from the straight edge up to the surface for the pan on the block, then use a straight edge and measured from the pan flange to the "fluid"? What I don't really understand is where the oil in intended to be with respect to the windage tray in a stock application. Also how much oil is in the block and push rods etc. while an engine is running which may be an over full condition while off. I am sure there is a delicate balance between just enough and too much.

    • @Burndown
      @Burndown  2 місяці тому +1

      Yes I agree. Filling a factory pan up to the specified amount and measuring that would give a good idea as to the perfect fill level. I figured keeping it under the windage tray seemed logical but I could be way off since I don't know for sure.

    7 quarts probably wouldn't hurt because u have turbo lines i would run 7 be safe

    • @Burndown
      @Burndown  2 місяці тому +1

      Well the cool thing now is I know what 6 quarts looks like in the pan and I know it falls at the top mark on my dip stick. So with the accumulator and turbo I can pour oil in to the mark so the level in the pan stays where it should if that makes sense.

    Question, besides having two vehicles down at once. Why not swap oil pans with the bego? It doesn't need that shallow one right?

    • @Burndown
      @Burndown  2 місяці тому

      The one in the bego holds less oil I believe. I used the shallow pan in the bego because of the front straight axel. I will have to re visit it tho because if I could use a stock truck pan in the bego it would be bette but I think its right over the axel so I don't want it to hit.

      @Burndown I think it holds the same as the one on the Boom. It's just thinner at the front for the factory steering link. I can fill mine up this evening to confirm. I watched your video on it when you first posted it, and bought the same one. When you put the motor in the bego it looked like there was plenty of clearance up front. But then again, I'm just watching a video of it lol. I gotta go watch the Maliboom running now!

    • @Burndown
      @Burndown  2 місяці тому

      @@masoncampos7043Yeah the bego has plenty of room but when I installed the motor it wasn’t lowered yet so I was being cautious. Swapping it out would probably benefit me with oil capacity alone. I want to run an oil cooler the old girl as well so maybe I can do it all at the same time. It will be getting a hot side make over and probably new exhaust at some point.

    • @masoncampos7043
      @masoncampos7043 2 місяці тому +1

      So I took mine out of the box, p in a box! 🤣 and this is what I got.. 6 qts = 1 1/2 in from top of pan. Also, just under the threads of the drain back plugs and starting to fill the scooped cut out in the pan. 6 1/2 qts = 1 1/4 in from the top. Filled the scoop and starts to reach the front of the pan. 7 qts = 1 1/8 from top and fully reached bottom of the vertical wall in the front of the pan, maybe a 16th in up the threads on the drain back holes. I have pictures of it all, too if that helps.

    • @Burndown
      @Burndown  2 місяці тому +1

      @@masoncampos7043 Yeah 7 seems fine because by the time you fire up the motor and it sucks oil down I bet it’s good to go. I will also have to compensate for the accumulator at a certain point so I’ll be in the 8qt range I think when it’s all said and done so should be plenty.

      The 302-1 pan that this is a copy of says 5.5 at on summit. I guess it can be as many quarts as you want technically 🤣
