Steve, the Firebox & Mano stoves are about two of the best. It's great to see you move forward in improving a useful product. We viewer's and users are glad to help with ideas. My Gen 1 Nanos is still going strong!
And yet another outstanding demonstration of the Nano 2. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to enjoy your many videos. I am the proud owner of the Firebox, the Nano, and the Cube stove and I like all three very much.
Thanks Ted! You are a big part of it being possible. Without all my awesome customers supporting the cause by purchasing FFB products I wouldn't be able to do what I love to do which is create, produce and promote fun and useful gear.
That's such a great test. Good idea too. Get the food ready to go while I set up my camp.... Thanks for giving me another idea for this little wonderful stove. I'll be doing one of these soon
The second part of this demo was really impressive because the unit was performing in cold weather conditions. When you do these tests, it would help if we knew what the temperature and general humidity was...and what the water temperature was. The first part looked like warm, dry weather and the twelve minute boil was great for making a noon meal for two, with tea! The cement block idea is interesting for a base-camp set up to elevate the fire for ease while preventing ground burns. Thanks!
James Ellsworth thanks for watching James. If I have to keep track of and Report absolutely every detail possible the fun for me will be gone and I won't likely do many videos. While all those details do make a difference the general idea stays the same.
James Ellsworth the number of variables involved with a wood fire is so vast that someone could never account for them all to make scientific conclusions from experiments like these. That's why I stick with the general idea of things when doing wood burning experiments because the environment as well as all the other variables simply cannot be controlled to get exact consistency. At the end of the day either it worked well and you enjoyed your time doing it or it failed and you were frustrated.
Yes, I am a one-time quality control tester...but, as an outdoor guy early on, I was surprised by how differently my stove systems reacted under substantially different weather conditions. What I was trying to get at in my comment was that your tests seemed to show fine performance under different conditions. I thought that your viewers might appreciate you pointing that out.
Just got my Nano Firebox stove! Used it for alcohol stove and just had my first burn in it. Very pleased. I have used the Swedish fire torch method in my bigger Firebox stove many times. I've seen many times the Swedish fire torch in Nano stove. I was experimenting today a little bit with the Nano stove upside down with the fire torch. I think it would work just as good, maybe better. That way the bottom of the stove wouldn't fall down after the main burn. Have anybody ever tried it this way? I didn't see anything so far. Thanks
Thank you for showing us that there is a way to make a smaller Swedish fire, especially inside of a small wood stove. I will be trying this method in my small Toaks wood stove (instead of packing it full of small sticks. Wish me luck.
Hello my friend. Thank you for sharing this fine video. I made two little stoves similar to the the Nano.I am Looking forward to get out and test them in the outdoors. I live in an apartment complex; therefore, it is impossible to test them in the immediate area. Take care and be safe out there.
That was very interesting! Nearly an hour! Can you imagine how many times you would need to stoke the fire and how much wood you would use to achieve the same results?? A heck of a lot more! Then the time to gather it to start with? I would call that a success as well. Tell Perry thanks to for the input! I am going to have to use that set up as well! Works great with my folding fire box, can't wait to do it with my nano! Thanks for sharing that!
Yea, I was excited to realize that similar results to what I got by Sweed loading the the 5" Firebox could be had with the 3" Nano. Thanks for watching!
I just ordered the Firefox Nano Gen 2 and the X case for it off Amazon to go with my Trangia Stove. I went over at a friends place the other night and he was in the snow cooking bacon and eggs with his setup and I was impressed. So I just had to get one somehow. Early Christmas gift to myself..

Great video ! First time seeing Torch and Nano used together. I have used both separately, never together. Great idea.P.S. " A watched pot never boils OVER " not " A watched pot never boils "
I had about 30 people over last night for a workshop on backpacking. You would have loved to have heard the oohs and ahs when I busted out both firebox stoves and lit the big one up with little tiny pieces of wood and the Nano with a small homemade alcohol stove. Pretty certain we found you some more recruits last night! Sure love these stoves!
Hi Steve, I'm a big fan of your stoves, and I'm looking forward to trying out the Nano, mostly for using it with a Triangia stove. Though maybe not exclusively. Good work, keep it up.

I really like that adaptation of the swedish torch stove in your two firebox stoves. Sometime stick fires are hard to manage when you have a few things going on - wonder if the same approach could be done with the Kelly Kettle? Thanks for sharing - B
A very good Video, my friend Steve! You really have good wood their in your country, here in Germany all is rotten or wet ,-) Regards from Berlin, Your friend M@rk
FireboxStove Thanks for watching my video's and for your kind words. Now that we're doing it it seem kinda obvious, the results are so good that I'm kicking myself asking why didn't you think of this earlier? Lol ;)
Hey Steve - first this is awesome. Second, always see you using the EasyLight starter and wondered if you just have a bunch or if you prefer it to others for any reason. I"ve used Coghlans sticks for years. I've looked at others but feel like the "puck" shape would bug me for packing - always like the sticks since they're, well, stick shaped and easy to snap. Plus I think they're the cheapest overall (not sure about that but they sure aren't expensive.) Just wondered what your take was. Cheers.
I use the easy light fire starters because they are actually one of my products that I sell on firebox.com. I think you're sticks sound like they work just fine. I've tested a lot of firestarters and I've never found any that work better than the easy light formula. Thanks again!
If you had no stove that is an option, also one of the reasons I always keep a small amount of brass wire with me, also for snares(Illegal in my country, but in a genuine survival situation fuck the laws). The point of this video is to show the diversity of fuel types and arrangements you can use with these stoves. Also with a wood only swedish fire stove you place the pot directly on the wood, this cuts off some air flow and eventually that wood once it gets about halfway burned becomes unstable and could spill precious water, with a stove you can use it until there is no wood left.
That was great Steve! Can't believe how versatile. Looking forward to trying this method on the Nano. Great strategic thinking too. Multi-tasking does not always come naturally to the male gender lol. Which Toaks pot were you using in the first clip?

Great test and video. Is that the 1300ml toaks? Also will the leather case for the nano fit in like the nylon one does?
It's the 1100ml toaks. Basically a quart. The leather cases are quite a bit bigger and don't fit in the 1100 pot
