Don't see how covering up an affair can be illegal influence of an election. It has to be accepted that Trump was at least partly trying to avoid public embarassment. It's a very weak case when you think it through.
New York Election Law 17-152 makes it a crime to conspire to promote or prevent the election of any other person by illegal means.
And the illegal means in this case include falsifications of business records, which become felonies due to the attempted election tampering.
