Thanks for the shout out 👏. I do enjoy several good cb/ham related channels . I like seeing other guys I’m subscribed to on other channels I like as well . We’re all in this hobby to Make CB Great Again !! 73’s to you , you have some great friends and great gear .
Icoms are difficult because they are not intuitive. You have to read the manual. I found this out when I bought a Icom R70 receiver at a hamfest and downloaded the manual.
You got some neat stuff. The Palomar noise bridge will tell you the impedance and reactance of your antenna. The meter is an SWR meter, not an SRW. It stands for, "Standing Wave Ratio. " Nice tuner. I'd love to have one like that. I tad large for portable, but it is a very well designed tuner. Barry, KU3X
After filming I realized what the noise bridge was for, (saw them as a kid) I can not wait to use it on my next antenna experiment:) Pre antenna analyzer days for sure. And the SRW thing is a tweak, ive been saying that for decades. Hi Cheers to ya Barry.
I don't know about you guys, but let's turn "Send Wagon Master a vintage CB radio" into an Internet meme! Universal Radio has a nice page on this that lists the specs and features and all of the accessories. This was their top of the line rig when it was introduced. No nicotine is a bonus. The meter lights working means low hours of use. I have the companion receiver, the R70, and it's operation is not intuitive. Take time to read the manual. Push the HAM/GENE button to access all of the bands. Maybe next time do a live chat and we'll help you out. If the MARS/CAP model has been done the radio will transmit between 1.5 and 30 mhz. I highly recommend downloading the manual and reading it. It is filled with a lot of "Oh, so *that's* how this works!" moments. They were made from 1986 through 1993.
I shot this video last Friday, I have been using the rig over the weekend and it is a winner! The MARS mod was simple and the operation IMHO was not hard to figure out. Beats the hell out of these new menue driven rigs. RX on this rig kicks . BTW... Like the meme idea. Hahaha Cheers
@@390WagonMaster I've had them all, and Icoms just have a certain "feel" compared to a Kenwood or Yaesu. Menus just make things complicated if you have to fiddle with them often. Don't think that DX will be hot today because the solar flux index is near 100. But you never know.
Cool, wish someone would give me a HF Rig! As for the Palomar RX Noise bridge, I have one and used it to adjust the swr on my CB antenna on my car. Connect the antenna and radio to the appropriate ports, pick a frequency, then adjust the knobs for minimum noise from the receiver. Shows Xl and Xc and impedance. repeat on another frequency. Then adjust antenna. Repeat until antenna set. After I did this on my car, I borrowed my friends MFJ-259. Was VERY close to "perfect"! The speaker probably could use the Dynamat AND some"stuffing" for better sound.
To make the ic751 go to 27.xxx you have to press the gene button for general coverage, then you can tune to cb / 11 meters. If it has not had the open TX mod it will not transmit outside the ham bands but the mod is simple to do. That is a great 90's hf rig before all the DSP crap they make now. If its operating correctly its a great ssb rig. AM tx audio is not so hot on it but thats kinda the case on most ham hf radios. Ive got owners and service manuals for that model if you need any info. Have done some repair work on them in the past. I hope the VCO trimmer adjusment variable capacitors have been replaced in the vco/pll section, if not youll know it by a obvious warble sound on ssb rx and tx. $25.00 of parts takes care of it though. Was common back then for Icom to use plastic trimmer caps, they go bad, replace them with ceramic ones and your good to go. Easy alignment method after replacing them.
MARS mod was easy to perform and I must say I am impressed with the 751s performance. All modes and functions work well. Keeping fingers crossed as far as how she holds up. "If" and when she goes I may axe you a few questions if you don't mind. So far so GREAT! 73s
This is a 12v radio with a built in 12v PS.. So a VARIAC is no good. Not worried about a AC to DC PS, filter caps maybe? still not an issue. Now.... If I was firing up and old FT101 of ts520 kind of rig then most defiantly a VARIAC
When I see or read about things like this it gives me a glimmer of hope for mankind yet brother. That being said,I wish someone would send me a 10-12m base 😂
The 751 has a great receiver and the TX audio is outstanding. The absolute best mic for that rig is the ugly little electric goose neck base mic. And is super easy to MARS mod.
390 WagonMaster You should look up robbie strike on youtube you can learn FTA stuff i have done it when i use to lived in utah with mini sat dishs like directv dish back in 2018-2020 ka band look up freesat on ebay and i use to had cband dish long time ago back in 1993-1998 when use to lived in hollywood, florida.

Wow, You get all the goodies , I would not have a clue as how to operate a radio like that one. I am struggling with the two knobs that I twist.

Beautiful older radio . I been trying to find a icom 730 in good shape for a fair price for over a year ,, no dice yet
Nice gift!
You should do youtube compare video that icom-ic751 to newer icom 7300.
You should uses a VARIAC transformer to power up vintage equipment.

That's a nice radio! I'm partial to the IC-741 myself though...
When I see or read about things like this it gives me a glimmer of hope for mankind yet brother. That being said,I wish someone would send me a 10-12m base 😂
