I love the fact that Sergio and Woodland get some recognition here. Sergio's clubhead speed is CRAZY; he just chooses to hit down and flight his driver shots, which is why they only carry around 285 (still a big hit). Woodland is just an absolute monster. I love the way he just picks it up, relaxes the arms, and fires his right shoulder through. He swings so damn casually and consistently gets 190 mph ball speeds. I believe that if Gary Woodland were to swing at his full power, he would be able to compete in long drive.
barry nicholas yeah. but it also shows that a high chs is a big advantage. Of course youre not winning tournaments by simply hitting it long, but a most of these guys have won a tournament in the last 2 years.
Too much emphasis, IMHO, on the power game in the modern era. Liked the game better in the pre-graphite, titanium, perimeter weighted, rocket ball era. Called for more finesse. A 300 yard drive was really something awesome back then, and hitting par 5s in two required two great shots. It's just a totally different game now: like the difference between steel and wooden shafts. Probably more fun now, though, for the average guy who doesn't have to struggle so hard.
Tiger was able to swing faster than Loupe on a regular basis. He did that with a steel shafted 975D. Another reason why he is the best of all time.
