@@NightShiftScaleModels man, when you start seeing your hobby as an obligation it's time to take a break. I'm sure all of your subscribers know how much you dedicate into this channel, so if you are feeling, well, exhausted, take as many breaks as you need. We'll still be here, don't worry!
Sometimes it looks very weird, especially with these steel finishes, but most of the time it all clicks together after just one round of rust washes :)
same. i haven't built a model since middles chool. and back then i didn't own an airbrush and all i had for brushes were those shitty ones you get at the dollar store. needless to say my models looked like shit and it wasn't very motivating to continue. Randomly discovering this channel literally got me back into the hobby now that im at a point in my life where a decent set of paints and a good airbrush is more like pocket change than a bank breaker.
I used to do armor models, this guy spent more time and effort on those exhaust than I used to spend on weathering an entire vehicle, and it shows, amazing.
Friday. Yay. I have the added bonus.... I watched this last week, but get to watch it again......and just as I think it's all over..... I have the early video on Patreon to watch now. Double Yay.
Have just received "The Secret Horsepower Race", a book on WWII aircraft engine development (which was an enormously state-of-the-art affair involving progresses and series of failed experiments left, right and center for literally every part of the equation, from fuel tank to superchargers to bearing to the exhausts - often finding several hundreds of hp in that last step) - and with that mindset I look at this tank exhaust: pipe going into a muffler at 90° angle. Realizing that in many cases planes and tanks shared the same base engine (i.e. Merlin - Meteor). Absolutely baffling how different the mindsets were.
Martin, this is a great format for tutorials. When you focus on a specific part of the tank we get a lot of detail on the “how to”. Keep up the great work and posting the videos. Greetings from México.
Watching his videos has helped me get the courage to pick up my airbrush and start learning, and I built and detailed my very first diorama because of him, using a lot of stuff I've seen him do
How can you not love these videos!! It is the end of the work week and I am feeling exhausted, but strangely enough, Uncle you make me want to stop work early and start my weekend modelling. So...exhausted from work...but not exhausted from taking your tips and techniques and using them on my builds! TY.
I picked up a Vallejo Rust and Weathering kit earlier this year to grime up my 40K Imperial Guard. The instructions were good, but this video was better. Thank you for doing this particular how-to!
Martin, you have helped me more than you could possibly know. Will Pattinson is usually right on with his recommendations and he certainty was when he suggested your channel for great tips and techniques. Thank you and please keep up the great work you do.
Great job, i used to work in a garage and the mufflers were always the most rusted, but like you said if you went too heavy it would look out of place you added just the right amount.
Maaan, I am not a modeller, but these are a treat to watch! WHen I found this channel, I was binge watching videos. Inspiring, to say the least, but I am not sure how good my two heavy hands would do with such a challenge, ha!
Great tips getting ready to build tamiya easy eight first armor model, hope I don’t completely Ruin it. I will watch a crap ton of your videos before I get started
Hi Night Shift, another great tutorial, and very timely as I have just pur hased a Tamiya M26, take care and keep safe mate, best regards from Australia
One of your best videos in my opinion. I love all of your stuff, of course, but when you really go into depth on exactly how to accomplish a specific effect, it's just great, particularly when you end up with such an amazing effect. Bravo!
I bloody love this video, I think I must make up half the views at this point. I still haven't successfully ripped the effect off yet, but give me another ten attempts and I will!
Thank you so much! These are probably the most realistic model exhausts I've seen, so much better than the bright orange blobs that so many people end up making. Unrelated, can I be annoying and suggest that you try something like Takom's Krupp Raumer S? It's a massive kit and a great canvas to experiment on
Again, I look at my model's with a Deep Sense of Shame. Your Paint Collection must take up a whole wall if not, a Room. Stunning work as always and After looking Under my Car. You are indeed correct a White/Gray Area with Rust only around Weld Seams is 'Bang On'. Amazing Eye for Details. Next Project will include White/Gray Zones..!! Thx for these Videos Everytime I watch, I learn...! Cheers from the Land of Oz. Kim. 😎
I just bought 3 different 1/35 tanks just to do the weathering...Big difference to the WW2 aircraft weathering which I am use to...and weathering goes a big way to making any model look less like a toy...
Hey Martin, that's a great video! Superb result and inspired me to test this limited rust on some exhaust. May be a Shot? I'd like to see similar video about M2 gun weathering
Everything you do, you do it so well!! Very nice to watch and you inspire me a lot to step up on weathering..who are the one who really make the model come alive.
maybe one day try releasing a video every 2-3 days but focusing on specific parts of a model. it could be a small side project, but if you like that way better one day do it as a main project. (I wonder what you could do to a light vehicle like a halftrack?)
What are your thoughts on representing the scorched paint seen on gun barrels, especially following a bombardment, where the tank is next to a huge pile of shells, and just unloading them on a position? I've seen this setup in a picture from Italy, '44, with a Sherman and a pile of tube-packaged shells almost as tall as the tank. The Sherman's gun is blackened nearly all the way to the mantlet and, nearer the muzzle, has pale remnants of paint peeling off.
Pov: your weekend has officially started
Sadly not yet. As great as his videos are, I'm still in school :(
My POV: you have no weekend because somehow you need to cram 4 hours of footage into a 15 minute video
that's a little...drastic...and...sad.
Great video! Look fwd to every Friday for theses.

I was literally just about to paint the exhaust of my Pz.4 when this video dropped. This is like a godsend
Now your bench session won't be so exhausting!
@@NightShiftScaleModels im getting exhausted of that joke men
Ahhhh time to pretend I’m doing something productive, whilewatching uncle night shift
Oh i'm in the middle of class lmao. My teacher is so oblivious he doesn't realise no one is listening
That looks awesome! Everytime you start painting, I think what the heck is he doing. But at the end it always looks so realistic. It`s just an art!
Sometimes it looks very weird, especially with these steel finishes, but most of the time it all clicks together after just one round of rust washes :)
Stunning effects, well done, many thanks.
I always enjoy uncle NightShifts “rusty” jokes... :)
The moment everyone gets tired by them I'll start making videos about weathered tires.
@@NightShiftScaleModels 😂
@@NightShiftScaleModels thats a pun territory I didnt think you'd ever TREAD on 🙃
I don't know why I love rusty exhaust, maybe because the contrast, but occasionally a painted exhaust is appropriate?! Thanks for this video!
A new Night Shift, perfect for relaxing. Thank you for the constant uploads.
even if I'm not actually building or painting anything, Just watching uncle Night Shift is probably one of the most enjoyable parts of my day.
Hey man, these videos have legitimately helped me get into this hobby. Thanks

It’s impossible for me to dislike because every single video is so awesome and Interesting and helpful 👍
Your realism creating skills remain unmatched!!!
That really looks great, very realistic.
I used to do armor models, this guy spent more time and effort on those exhaust than I used to spend on weathering an entire vehicle, and it shows, amazing.
I attempted rust effects around the hatches on a M8 Greyhound, let's just say yours looks like the Mona Lisa and mine a baby's fridge art.

Just tried this and I'm so happy with the results, so easy!
Although this one was shorter, it brought the same weekend vibe as the longer ones. I love your work!
Mahgahd, I'm watching this channel for so long right and it still amazes me. You're a walking encyclopedia of modeling techniques I guess

Watched this last year and truly enjoyed it. Just watched it again and appreciate it even more.
Thanks Uncle Night Shift.
Yaaaay I am like 2000 ! Looks handsome my friend. Can't wait for this pandemic to end to get hands on a new model, hopefuly soon.
The rusted exaust looks great. It adds more to the work you've already done.
Thats a brilliant effect
I love how you explained how and what caused the weathering. Thank you for your videos.

Always a good time. Love the subtlety on this model.
this channel is really become perfect models technology guide channel
Nice to see again some tutorial. As I'm not an armor modeler, it is more easy to adapt techniques from tutorials to my field.
That looks great. I may have to up my game and try this. Thank you Uncle Night Shift.

Very cool tutorial. For reference images, you could look to old tractors or other larger industrial machinery.
I found it VERY Interesting !!
Been using your Winter Camo effects/techniques for my SU-122
Now its exhausts are going to be awesomness

This look so amazing!!!!!!! I can't wait to see the next video of this T29 Tank
Brilliantly done, thanks for sharing your thoughts and techniques
Fantastic looking rust! Thanks for this great tutorial!
Great work on the exhaust! Subtle and much more realistic effect then a heavily weathered exhaust 👍

I think this is my peak form. It's time for tiring jokes about squishy rubber tires.
That would be an new territory to tread on.

Very helpful Martin. Thank you.
