@@Mindblazter80 what did you like about it? I personally hated the crafting and got bored with the world. The fusion was great….for the most part. Lastly, activating the sage abilities has the worst system I’ve ever seen.
@@JM-pm1yb I think I loved the game about everything, not going to deep with the powers and sages and so on, my brother played the game at the same time so we speaked everyday about how we did go on the map and what we found. Then found the underground (very cool). I cant say exactly why I love the game, maybe its becuse im 43 years old and played all zelda games and taking next adventure to my heart. (My english is not the best but I hope u can understand.) breath of the wild is next to this, and ofcourse A Link to the past.
I grew up with the NES. My first Zelda was the original. I’ve enjoyed EVERY release for the most part. Not a fan of the DS titles or Oracle games. I did enjoy BOTW quite a bit. There’s some glaring omissions to what makes Zelda such a great franchise. But I did like it overall. There’s just something about TOTK that I did not enjoy. Mainly the crafting. But there’s more to it. It felt super tedious to get anything done. Exploring was fun and mostly enjoyable. But it grew stale way quickly because it was similar to BOTW. I poured so many hours in BOTW, so TOTK just got boring after a while. So, with the tedious mechanics. The world exploration being similar to something I put over a hundred hours in already, and the continued fractured story telling….I just can’t place TOTK as a great “Zelda” game. I completely understand that I’m not into crafting games. And that plays a huge part. But the overall experience did not give me that same excitement as playing Ocarina in middle school, beating Windwaker, or playing BOTW for the first time. From the start, TOTK irritated me with its game mechanics.
A lot of miss information out there, with many complaining it was a $70 dlc. 20 million sold is incredible none the less and Microsoft and Sony would love to have a game sell anywhere near that.
It's also a sequel. Exhibit A, FF7 Rebirth. The honeymoon phase is real, and it dies off in sequels. Ppl had that nostalgia for BOTW and FF7R, but when the sequels came out, that phase has ended and the "lovers" come back to buy the sequel.
@jinyboi did u not read the post lmao. Rebirth is easily in my top 5 fav games ever. But when it comes to sales in sequels, a lot of the time there's a drop off.
@@jinyboi he wasn’t dissing it, just saying that’s the case for all sequels - they rarely financially outperform the original, especially if it’s a game.
@@tielmaster7879 That's because people who played and brought TOTK, that hadn't purchased BOTW, went on to buy BOTW afterwards, this is nothing new, it happens with all sequels, many may not know that the game they are buying is a sequel, or connected storywise etc, as for BOTW selling more, it was a launch game that was one of the few big games available, if not the only big game available when the Switch launched, it has been available for nearly 8 years, and it was also available on the Wii U, so the fact that TOTK has sold 70% of what BOTW has in just a year on a nearly 8-year-old system is pretty incredible. There will also most likely be a TOTK DX game for the NS2.
@@redcrimson1028 nah its facts. im waiting til it goes on sale. Breath of the Wild dropped to $25 at my local Gamespot before I picked it up. Was worth waiting for me as I didnt feel the pull to it that others did as a Zelda fan. And spoilers dont really matter to me as much as gameplay. Tears will also drop in price eventually
Zelda has been off to me. Their lack of focus on dungeons or palaces is wack to me. The games have been good games, but not what I am looking for in Zelda. Tears of the Kingdom really threw me off with the building and stuff... just not my thing.
@padmoch2207 I can agree with that, too. I was really hoping the sky areas were more than just quick item discoveries. They could have flip flopped the scale of the underworld with the sky islands and been alot more interesting.
Good decision. It felt EXACTLY like playing BotW to me for the latter half of the game. I slogged through it because my personality requires that I do.
TOTK asked me to do so many things that felt more like work than fun that I just gave up on it. But I will say I am genuinely proud of my son for finishing it at 7 years old.
Yeah. Same here. I hated the crafting element. I don’t like MINECRAFT, so why would I want to be forced to play a game I was looking forward to with some of those mechanics. Also, it just felt like the same world I already spent all those hours in when playing through BOTW. Yeah, lots of “layers” with the empty sky island and tedious underground sections.
@@JM-pm1yb I really didn't mind revisiting the same world. But it was like, "Now that you can make vehicles, transport a bunch of lumber across 15% of the map to rebuild this town." My response: "Nope, not doing that." And it kept happening.
For real! All I wanted to do was upgrade my gear but I needed to get a band back together, build them a car and find a bunch of items to give to the great ferry.... I nope right out of the game
BOTW has been selling for 8 years and TOTK has only been selling for 2... also I think that the majority who buy TOTK are those who enjoyed BOTW... if you bought BOTW but never finished it I don't think you want to buy TOTK... It not makes sense to compare the sales of the two... TOTK is for hardcore BOTW players that wanted more...
Yes overall it makes more sense for people to play BOTW then TOTK. But precisely, the comparison shouldn't be about saying that one has been selling for longer, we have to account for context and time windows. BOTW launched on Switch which was just starting to sell. TOTK had a 100+ million headstart of installed units. It sold 20 million units on release but slowed down much quicker, just didn't have the same legs.
I kind of agree. It was for hardcore fans. BOTW was probably bought by a bunch of girls and normies that never played a Zelda game before. The game is for those of us that played BOTW first
@@Spanluver what an odd way to include "girls" as outlier casuals... I know generalities about gaming but we're talking about Zelda games. Other than that I agree it makes sense for people to look at BOTW first, though marketing also pushes toward people who could jump into the new game regardless.
There was something magical playing BOTW for the first time coming out that cave and seeing the world. TOTk just felt like I was carrying on. It literally is botw with extra steps
I’ve been gaming since Pong. I thoroughly enjoyed BOTW and taught my wife how to play video games with it. Now we’re working our way through TOTK and I don’t understand the hate. This game is almost exactly what I imagined games would be someday.
Echoes of Wisdom, which I'm looking forward to, isn't doing close to 12m sold. 4-6m sold is more likely. However, I will say if this surprises and does for 2D Zelda what BotW did for 3D Zelda, then maybe it could get there.
Botw was also a system launcher but it was also just a better game design in my opinion .. like in the beginning where we rolled a boulder onto the enemies and I feel like the gameplay was more intimate than it was in totk
I want old Zelda back, Link to The Past, Ocarina of Time style. Great stories, memorable bosses and most of all dungeons that were fun!! Open world was ok but it's so stale now, they got it right with the original Zelda on NES, that was a game, challenging and mysterious...no hand holding!!! Hope the next big title doesn't go the way of the Final Fantasy series where they got lost in what made Final Fantasy, Final Fantasy for so long.
@@firefoxriouyh6541 Also, 3m units sold in just a quarter of a year isn't average at all-- it's actually excellent. Most game developers will never see this level of commercial success in their entire careers-- especially indie devs. The game costs $60; I don't think you'd ever complain about making ~$180m in a matter of months, would you? Try not to derive your sense of the "average" from the sales of borderline ubiquitous juggernauts like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Minecraft and GTA V. 3m units sold is much more than the vast majority of video games and albums.
3 million units is great and all but when you actually put in % of owners who own the Switch and how many of them purchased Metroid Dread, the numbers don't look good at all. Dread might be the best selling Metroid game in terms of actual numbers, but in actual fact it had one of the least % of console to game owners out of any Metroid game. Because the reality is, nobody wants a $60 indie game that you can beat in under 15 hours, that isn't good value for money, no matter how fun those 15 hours are, most people are not gonna spend $60 on a game that takes a weekend to finish.
@@rezarfar That argument doesn’t work when other games that are otherwise “AAA quality” don’t even sell as much as Metroid dread. And considering what we got afterwards was a prime remaster and a glimpse of the 4th game, it’s not like Nintendo sees these sales as bad.
I'm in a Breath of the Wild facebook group and I still see posts all the time of people just starting the game and asking for help. It's easy to forget that not everyone got Breath of the Wild at launch, there are still people interested in trying these "new" Zelda games, and they want to start with the first one. They will probably get around to Tears of the Kingdom eventually, so it's still going to sell more for sure. It will just always be playing catch up with Breath of the Wild because very few people are only buying TotK without also buying BotW.
I know there's people that don't want to admit that there are people who didn't like breath of the wild, but I am one of them. I tried to like it I beat it I did all the shrines and the game just never captured me in the way that a game like ocarina of Time does. I didn't buy tears of the kingdom for that reason. I borrowed it from a friend and played it for about 2 hours and realized it was more of the same and that I wasn't going to like it. It just is what it is.
Imagine not understanding how time frames are compared. I dont' mean to be condescending but why are so many people here not getting that BOTW released on a brand new console and TOTK had 100+ million units to sell to. TOTK sold proportionally less and for a shorter time, BOTW is already back at the same pace.
Nintendo expected it to sell better… for the amount of money they invested in its development and marketing budget they probably understood by a few million
Don't you realize what Breath of the Wild achieved only with 13m Wii Us and 0 Switch sold at it's launch compared to the 100m+ consoles TotK had available last year?
Shocked at the number of comments of people not understanding this simple point: If BOTW is outselling TOTK on a monthly basis NOW (and began doing so late last year in TOTK release year), then OF COURSE TOTK will never outsell BOTW. Comprehension is low...
Damn why are so many people thinking like that.... BOTW sold on a brand new system, even selling more than the number of Switch units available on release. TOTK released with over 100 million units deployed. TOTK's sales were huge on release but proportionally smaller, and it has slowed down quicker.
I agree, a 2D Mario game is not a AAA blockbuster. I'd really like to know what the original plan was with Breath of the Wild as far as DLC was concerned. What would BotW been had they not made Tears of the Kingdom?
My unpopular opinion either games are that good. Listen, BOTW was like… I don’t get the hype, and TOTK was like I’m not gonna force myself to like it because the internet tells me too. And I’m sure I’m not the only one.
Interesting, because it felt totally different to me. The Sky Islands were quite different with the Zonai tech, then it starts you in a different area of the map on the surface, then exploring the depths was totally different as well. I guess it depends on whether you were already tired of BotW or not when TotK came along. I still have the urge to play both of them.
I played it all the way through, but it did feel exactly like playing BotW for the last 3/4ths. They needed a new map, a different story, and streamlined the gameplay to eliminate the unfun things like constantly switching armor sets or cooking food or not being able to climb when it rains.
@@Bgrosz1 Yup, they definitely needed a new map. I had already played BotW 3 times at that point and it was damn near 1:1, except for of course the bland underworld, repetitive caves and empty sky. It even followed the same story beats and once again had most of it be told through flashbacks. Such a let down of a sequel.
Honestly I never felt the same need to 100% Tears of the Kingdom as I did Breath of the Wild. In Botw I got all 120 shrines because it was new and exciting, but in TOK I never felt the need. I basically just rushed the dungeons and final boss, screwed around with making cool vehicles, and then dropped the game after about a month.
@@buttlerubbies747 your right, I don’t know how much of that $79.99 is profit and how much is the cost to produce, market, and package the game. But they did charge $10 more over all their other titles for the first time.

I think there are some that just maybe didn’t like Breath of the Wild as much as they hoped, and even though Tears improves in many aspects, it is still 90% or so the same game. That isn’t gonna bring on board those that didn’t like BotW at all, because that 10% of changes and improvements just isn’t enough.
Like who? Give me some specific names so I can go laugh at them, because what possessed them to think a direct sequel on the same console would sell better than the original?
Me currently doing a ToTK: Legend of the Fierce Deity - Only achieve hearts through main story - Fierce Deity Chest Piece and Archaic straps only - Follow main quest only (side quest only optional in route) - No fast travel unless through travel medallion (including while in depths) - no glitches - Only horse is Zelda’s Horse My point, there are so many ways you can play this game, it vastly outshines BOTW.
Dude, once I realised it was a Zelda crafting game AND the same map was used, I lost all interest. There was nothing 'new' here for me at all. Looking forward to Echoes of Wisdom so much, top down Zelda is where it's at unless Ninty wants to remake OoT for me?
For me, I think you are correct about the sales is not like the BOTW because it was a unique game ,but not all the sales is because of it . I think the second major factor is that the switch is NOT powerfully enough in compare to the nowadays game and tech industry, so if the new switch comes out it will definitely refresh the sales but of course not like BOTW sales ,because The “wow” factor as you said plays a rule too.
They needed to do more with TOTK then they did. The reason BOTW did so good was because it was all new to people for a zelda game. TOTK was more of the same.
Lesson #1 for Nintendo: NEVER reuse a map for a new open world game. Wondering what is around the corner is the big catch to a game like this. Lesson #2 for Nintendo: Eliminate the unfun aspects of the game such as constantly switching armor sets or cooking the same food over and over again or cycling through a million items to find what you want. They should have refined the crap out of the BotW gameplay for TotK. Instead, they did zero refining and actually added some more cumbrances.
People got caught up in the novelty for BotW are are already sick of open World Zelda. They want classic 3D Zelda back. Open World fans are extremely vocal, but they do not represent all of us. When I played BotW, I was really positive on it during the first few hours, but over tome, things began to grate on me. Sidequests are obtuse and lack proper tracking and guidance, the open areaacks interesting thongs to do and just feels like busywork. The lack of structire makes for terrible stories, horrendous puzzles, and lack of design. I won't call it lazy, because it isn't. But too much openness makes for shallow experiences. We need classic 3D Zelda back.
Do people forget how little the old 3d Zelda's sold? lol. If anything the open world Zelda games share more in common with the original NES Zelda because that's literally where the inspiration from the game came from. The director wanted you to have the same type of freedom you did in the original. I think they could keep that type of freedom but make it more similar to the old 3d Zelda's but that'd probably require a bigger dev team
@@ADreamingTraveler How much it sold is irrelevant to the argument. The Awitxh jas a massive consummer base, and the comparison is unfair. It's lile of yoi compared Melee's sale to a new Smash game and forget to consider how Melee had an insane attach rate drspite how poorly the console was selling. Furthermore, sales do not equate to objective quality. Furthermore, it doesn't invalidate the argument that people are progressively getting sick of open world design. BotW benefited from novelty. More and more people are coming out and showing their displeasure at the death of classic 3D Zelda.
I don't think that's the case. The problem is a lack of refinement of the open world gameplay and reusing the map. I mean, what would you think if you took your favorite Zelda 3D game and Nintendo said they were making a sequel but reusing the map that you already explored? It was an obvious major fubar on Nintendo's part. Exploration is THE biggest draw of any Zelda game, 2D or 3D.
Honestly botw was much more enjoyable than tears of the kingdom. When Totk came out I was expecting so much more, New weapons, new costumes, new enemies, under water exploration, temples, labyrinths to explore, added towns and cities to the map also added ranches farms more life and civilization to show progress from the end of the first game. But all we got was the same exact game with a different gimmick and menu layout 😂 we got some new things here and there but over all majority was the same Regardless I had fun with both but I had much more fun playing botw than I did with Totk. Still never as much fun as I had playing twilight princess on GameCube for the first time
I don't think I've ever commented on one of your videos but I need to point out something. It took BOTW 5 years to get 20 million sales. It took TOTK to hit that same 20 million in just ONE YEAR and it was more expensive. Let's give TOTK 7 years and then we can compare them fairly. Something else to consider is that some people don't buy the 2nd installment of a game until they beat the first and it took me 7 years to beat BOTW. And yes if TOTK was 29 dollars cheaper on the E Shop it would help sales. Regardless TOTK is selling way way faster than BOTW. My second statement is that both of these Switch 900p games are not like the 1080p Zelda games Nintendo made a decade ago so if they patch it to 4k OR IF THEY RE-RELEASE IT then TOTK might sell 30 million a couple of years faster than BOTW. Just saying
BOTW was more fun than TOTK. I got bored in TOTK because the new machines made it feel more like work and I gave up playing it I went back to BOTW because you could kind of do nothing in it if you wanted to
Neither Switch Zelda's worked for me. Spending hours walking around a giant field, making things out of blocks is dull. Give me adventure, wonder, and dungeons! Like how it use too be.
the fatigue is real. if I wanted to be creative and build houses or whatnot while collecting materials I'd play a true sandbox game like minecraft. otherwise, give me a gripping narrative with intriguing characters, varied and detailed locations, amazing atmosphere and things to do. or I'm out.
Wow. UA-cam actually removed my comments about how Botw was released *7 Years Ago* at 31 million units sold, while TotK came out *Last Year* and already did 2/3 of that. Like do y’all understand basic math? Also who’s deleting my comments here?
I think both of them are overrated. I’m not saying they’re bad games, just not the best in the series in my opinion. I beat both of them but have no desire to replay either. I prefer the traditional Zelda formula with complex dungeons and weapons that you can continue to use. I realize people wanted things changed up but making everything tedious like making food all the time and weapons that break after using them 7 or 8 times breaks the flow of the experience for me. Trying to 100% everything is a complete waste of time and doesn’t feel rewarding. I beat all of the shrines and uncovered all of the darkness in the chasms out some obsessive compulsion like I needed to when it doesn’t offer much.
I had a blast playing Tears of the Kingdom. I would’ve liked some lore issues to have been resolved, more sky islands, less depths, and actual legacy dungeons in the game. Loved Breath of the Wild and thought Tears continued that story. It would’ve been better than they put out a DLC and a Master Mode.
Nobody asked for a crafting game , just make a Zelda Game in the OOT / ALTTP format give us our Zelda with OOT/ Major's Mask Gameplay! This is my opinion...
YOU are NOT the authority on what is a true Zelda game. Tears is a masterpiece since Majora. We don’t need weak fans like you lowering the standards and slowing down progress like those dumm@$$es that liked Twilight and Skyward, the worst 3D Zeldas ever.
My favourite game is skyward sword, I wish they made more games that were in a more linear format, since o like them ones very much and I’ve spoiled the plot for wind waker by watching too many vids on it and having never played it
@@TheOnslaught616 Tears of the Kingdom is an obvious masterpiece since OoT/MM. NOTHING disappointing about it. You guys just stink at the game & suckkkk at exploration.
BoTW was monumental. It was a trendsetter, revolutionized open world game design, totally reinvented Zelda, and launched with the uber-successful Switch - which onto itself had an immense amount of hype behind it. ToTK is the superior game in most ways. But it was never going to be as impactful as BoTW because you simply can't recreate that unique set of circumstances. We're talking about a sequel on the same hardware versus the excitment of not only a new, totally different Zelda, but also the first ever hybrid console. Not to mentiom Wii U sales. This whole "what happened to ToTK" narrative is so annoying and exhausting and feels like it's just for clicks. Like we're really comparing sales of 7 year old game to a *1 year old game?* Be so serious lol Nothing "happened." The game was a critical darling and sold like hot cakes. It's just a simple matter of nothing ever being able to recreate BoTW
True, to a large extent this was nothing surprising. But then it is also relevant to wonder what could hold back TOTK in terms of quality, because clearly there are things that got in the way of BOTW's charm.
@@DanielMazahreh Lmao still being a contrarian I see 😅 It's ok to admit our favorites are not the final perfect form. TOTK did amazing in its context, it's just not 2017 anymore.

Just like your political analysis, your economic analysis is lacking There's a difference between software being available for 7 years, selling 30 million sold Vs Software being available for 1 year, 21 million sold Do you need someone to clean yourself when you use the bathroom?
To be fair about the eshop... I only buy games on sale there. I normally buy physical but if there is a sale, I'll go digital. I bought both portal games, all bioshocks, batman Trilogy, mk11, grid, dying light, all the borderlands games, ffx / ffx2, Dragon Age 11, and way more just because they were on a huge sale on the eshop. Now does the eshop suck? Yes! Does it get my money when a good sale is on... YES! So sales may have helped BOTW some. Also, BOTW has been out forever and TOTK has only been out a fraction of the time with over 2/3 as much sold. Btw, I have no dog in the fight as I play BOTW on WiiU and don't own TOTK.
@@DanielMazahreh Not only do I disagree, I would even say that a lack of DLC left some story threads unfinished. DLC content also sells the main game. Simply put, the devs want to work another 6 years on the main game - it's not that difficult to make it 7 and push some extra content.
Aside from a few online multiplayer games, most of the switch games are either ports/remasters of previous games, or the kind that you beat once and never pick up again
He's right because people legitimately thought TotK would eventually match BotW sales. It's unlikely at this point. So, he's right pretty much in every way possible.
He had some valid points. BOTW was a HUGE reason to even purchase a Switch around launch. It’s also a very divisive game. You either enjoy the game and consider it a proper evolution to the Zelda series. Or you hate the direction they went with because the fractured storytelling, lack of classic items, lack of proper dungeons, and lack of enemy variety. Let’s just say that 0.25% of the people who bought BOTW did not care for it. That’s less sales already. Plus, there’s people who played BOTW, but possibly moved on from gaming. We also potentially have those people who became bored with the Switch and sold it 3 or 4 years ago. Flip side. There’s new adopters and people who were genuinely hyped enough to make this their first experience. I actually considered returning the game after the first few days. I absolutely hated the game. The crafting just isn’t my thing. I’m sure I’m not the only one with that opinion. I’ve actually talked people out of buying it based on what I disliked about it.
@@rhindlethered well he’s right based off the data that is presented now but the way he said it as if it’s an equal comparison. They're right there..... they just won't give us what we've wanted for decades now..... I didn't want to build bs in a Zelda game, I want a legit open world Zelda game. Experiment all you want, but don't make it a mainline game that we have to wait 5 years for
I mean it took 6 years to release the same game with some pallet swaps......the more I played it the more insulted I was paying $70 for it. They didn't listen to ANY complaints from the first game.
Neither of those interested me because of weapons breaking. I would much rather go back and play Twilight Princess again or just continue my very slow journey on A Link to the Past.
Totk is a great game but I agree with some of the comments it’s a little stale especially in the underworld I would hope that the next big Zelda game go back to what made Zelda a huge success in the first place like oot that is what I believe us Zelda fans want more of it can be open world but like the original more so than botw and totk with the dungeons of old in my opinion
TOTK was just too big for me. Played 5 hours and said, yeah I’m not about to put 100+ hours into this. Maybe I’ll dive in if there is like a 4K patch for the switch 2
I thought that I would actually be happy if Nintendo released the sequel with a smaller map than BotW. I was a bit disappointed to find out it was the same map but with a bunch of added areas. It's too much. Sometimes less is more.
@@Bgrosz1 Tears DID take a less is more approach via the right balance of brilliantly designed sky islands. You obviously don’t know what you are talking about. Go replay BotW and TotK.

And believe me I tried lol. I got TOTK last year when it came out and it has really just collected dust for me. I played it for 10 hours and dropped it. It just didn’t resonate with me. I can appreciate the hard work Nintendo put into making both titles but they just weren’t for me. I prefer more traditional Zelda games. Even though BOTW and TOTK aren’t my cup of tea there is no denying how big both games were for Nintendo regardless if TOTK didn’t sell as much as BOTW. I am happy for anyone that enjoys them!
I got my Switch last November, my first Nintendo console since the GameCube.. and i made a huge mistake: I knew i wanted a Zelda game; and i went with Tears of the Kingdom, because i thought "no Zelda game has ever carried on from the previous game, so it should be fine".. Sequels to ground-breaking, revolutionary titles are never going to be as popular as... their ground-breaking, revolutionary originals. At least, not on the same platform. Tears of the Kingdom should have been been held off until the Switch 2.
It think it didn't sale as well because of everything else out. When Zelda botw came out it was ground breaking and one of the only games you could really get for the switch. There were some smaller and indie titles but nothing else of that size.

Probably due to everything being too expensive to afford to buy a game. People were able to afford more games when Breath of the Wild was released. Breath of the Wild was a completely new experience. Tears added things, but It's not as substantial.
Buying Nintendo 64 games in Sweden in the late 90's want to have a word with your "Tears of the Kingdom is the most expensive Nintendo game." Super smash costed me 900 SEK back then, and most games last year where only 650 SEK.
Here's what happened to TotK: It sold very well, got great reviews, people played the crap out of it and then moved on. Like BotW, a few people are still playing around with the sandbox features and showcasing the evergreen nature of the gameplay. Hope this helps.
Amen. I was late to play tears because I wasn’t excited for the building mechanic and I already don’t care for cooking and collecting ungoly amounts of useless items and breakable weapons. People were telling me the 4 “temples” in this one were way better than the 4 beasts in botw and once I played one I just laughed. It’s nothing more than find 4 gates or wheels to activate and they are even marked on the map. Incredibly easy and it took zero skill to do it. I also don’t care for 99% of the puzzles in the shrines in totk…it’s a cool game but I desperately miss having full size dungeons that you can get lost in. @@chris101gray3 Skyward Sword released 12 YEARS AGO, the game is basically retro at this point. I'm talking about a NEW Zelda game in the Ocarina style.
I agree BOTW just hit different. I spent so much time exploring every bit of the map. One of my favorite games of all time. TOTK is cool with the new things, but it really feels like part two. I can't hold that against it though.
BoTW has been out for 7 years - TotK has not even been out for a year - It's only behind by 10 million out of 30 million. What is the point of this video?
These games are cool...but every 3rd hit when your sword or other piece of equipment constantly breaks absolutely drove me nuts....I got through maybe 1 hour of breath of the wild and called it quits...such a tedious mechanic
I don't know what you're talking about regarding deals on the eshop. I exclusively buy games from there. It's not nearly the hassle you make it out to be. I don't disagree that it's a bit sluggish and could be structured better, but it's still way more convenient than buying from a physical store and faster to play than having it shipped. It's also way more convenient to have all the games loaded onto the Switch than physically switching between which game you want to play. If you also have a nice discount? It's a no-brainer.
One thing on BotW's side is that it has two versions on Switch: Original and re-release that has all DLC on cart. I own both versions, and I bet many others do too. I actually own 2 copies of former and 3 of the latter.

Sony has spider-man and god of war, those reach that number after a couple of years on the market. But that's about it.
20 million sold on the name and hype alone. Pokemon Scarlet and Violet sold well too and they were dogshit.
The hype for the game was unlike anything a Nintendo game has seen before. That played a massive role in its success.
@sveningvardentredje god of war is not at 31 million though, neither is any of the spiderman games, ps4 or ps5. Also, zelda is better than both

There will also most likely be a TOTK DX game for the NS2.

I hate that underground part.
also the flying island zone was quite repetitive and in small numbers, so you are at ground level for most of the game anyway

It not makes sense to compare the sales of the two... TOTK is for hardcore BOTW players that wanted more...
TOTK has not been selling for 2 years. It's just a year and a few months.
Ur last statement literally shows why Totk has pretty much maxed out its sales lol

The bet was 3 million in the first year
3 million units is great and all but when you actually put in % of owners who own the Switch and how many of them purchased Metroid Dread, the numbers don't look good at all.

I felt I was playing breath of the wild ALL over again. I stopped playing after 10 hours and never went back.

For me, I think you are correct about the sales is not like the BOTW because it was a unique game ,but not all the sales is because of it . I haven’t completed TOTK yet, I preferred the simplicity of BOTW personally
Open World works when you have lots of vehicles like Just Cause 2
@@ContendCreators I'd rather seee less open world games, and more design, personally.
But all we got was the same exact game with a different gimmick and menu layout 😂 we got some new things here and there but over all majority was the same
Regardless I had fun with both but I had much more fun playing botw than I did with Totk.
Just saying

Which Zelda games do u like for switch? Can u rec any other switch games? Im new to it but really likes resident evil 4 and passed it in 2 weeks 😁😁😁

TOTK felt more like an expansion pack for BOTW.
Tears of the kingdom to me feels like the second dlc to Breath of the Wild
TOTK is way bigger than a DLC. It never felt like that to me at all.
It's a copy of the same boring game
I had a blast playing Tears of the Kingdom. I would’ve liked some lore issues to have been resolved, more sky islands, less depths, and actual legacy dungeons in the game.
Loved Breath of the Wild and thought Tears continued that story. It would’ve been better than they put out a DLC and a Master Mode.
Nobody asked for a crafting game , just make a Zelda Game in the OOT / ALTTP format give us our Zelda with OOT/ Major's Mask Gameplay! This is my opinion...
The crafting was the worst part of the game for me, after the disappointment of the sky islands and the depths
I think of Tears of the Kingdom as the “2nd Quest” if any of you remember the OG Zelda on NES either by beating the game or naming Link Zelda (lol).
No, Tears was more impactful. You’re just not smart enough to realize it
@@DanielMazahreh Lmao still being a contrarian I see 😅 It's ok to admit our favorites are not the final perfect form. TOTK did amazing in its context, it's just not 2017 anymore.
@@mkjjoe For you to treat Tears like Breath confirms your lack of creative thinking and that you’re clearly not good at the game. Tears went beyond what Breath achieved tenfold. You are dishonest. Replay the game.
I love both games but nothing beat the excitement of when you first started Breath of the Wild
honestly I feel like tear's of the kingdom really show the bad parts of this new zelda style with the terrible story mid dungeons and empty underground it was forgivable with BOTW since it was new and exciting but it's not new anymore making the flaws more noticeable for people
Just like your political analysis, your economic analysis is lacking
There's a difference between
software being available for 7 years, selling 30 million sold
Vs
Software being available for 1 year, 21 million sold
Do you need someone to clean yourself when you use the bathroom?
Not having a DLC for Tears was a HUGE miss from Nintendo and I see no good reason for not having it.
Tears is a masterpiece and felt complete. No need for DLC and the dev team confirmed and felt the same.
This is so dumb… 7 year difference and DLC and $30 price difference.. lol how are you right like why even compare them..
The economy/ world isn’t even the same from last year or when the Switch came out.
It’s like saying “ compare a Samsung tv from that time frame and how many units were sold then compare the upgraded version today .. the older one probably put up better numbers and not because it’s “better”

Maybe I’ll dive in if there is like a 4K patch for the switch 2
that's what she said
You’re so weak. I replayed BotW 14 times & TotK 7 times. Tears is a masterpiece & you are horrible at the game
Actually the legend of zelda: echoes of wisdom, is coming out on September 27 (I think)
I refuse to believe totk cost more to make. They pretty much used botw as a base then added sky islands and the depths. Got rid of the guardians for gloom hands and changed the shrines.
Very narrow-minded while completely ignoring the time spent designing Fuse, Ascend, Ultrahand and so much more.
@@DanielMazahreh he said used as a base
@@robertlefeaux Doesn’t matter, biiiiccchhh. Majora used Ocarina as a base. Heck, Twilight partially used Wind Waker hence why Link’s animation in Twilight while running is so off, goofy and annoying. Everything about Twilight is annoying
@@DanielMazahreh thank you for proving my point
@@DanielMazahrehyeah yeah yeah. We're already aware how Nintendo let the rest of the game fall to the wayside for a building mechanic most players don't care about all the much besides making the bare minimum
I was not really a fan of BOTW but I finished it somewhere between 60-70 hours a few years back. I pushed myself to finish BOTW as I just didn’t connect with it like I thought I would.
I got my Switch last November, my first Nintendo console since the GameCube.. and i made a huge mistake:
I knew i wanted a Zelda game; and i went with Tears of the Kingdom, because i thought "no Zelda game has ever carried on from the previous game, so it should be fine"..
Turns out, this is the ONE time this isn' the case lol
Wasnt til i was over a hundred hours into it, after looking stuff up on Reddit, and noticing all sorts of in-game references that i wasn't getting the point of..
Damn; should've got BotW first..
I wouldn't be surprised if i'm the only person to make this mistake lol
Sequels to ground-breaking, revolutionary titles are never going to be as popular as... their ground-breaking, revolutionary originals. At least, not on the same platform. Tears of the Kingdom should have been been held off until the Switch 2.
Yeah it was never going to sell as much, even if it’s critically better
It think it didn't sale as well because of everything else out. When Zelda botw came out it was ground breaking and one of the only games you could really get for the switch. There were some smaller and indie titles but nothing else of that size.
I bought it but I never bothered playing it. I think one day I'll play it but I'm just not super excited to jump into another breath of the wild. I love the first game don't get me wrong but I know I'm not going to enjoy the second one nearly as much
@@karimcheese7257 Same. I bought it and am just hanging onto it for when I'm ready. That time, is coming up. Looking to sink my teeth into a 100+ hour epic like Eldin Ring or something.
@@karimcheese7257 it's the same here. I haven't even touched the game mainly due to the fact that I haven't beaten botw and so many other games being out
Probably due to everything being too expensive to afford to buy a game.
@@DjSamination how dare they not consider foreign sales from 30 years ago!
Here's what happened to TotK: It sold very well, got great reviews, people played the crap out of it and then moved on. Like BotW, a few people are still playing around with the sandbox features and showcasing the evergreen nature of the gameplay. Hope this helps.
Botw was consistently in the eshop top 15 best sellers for 6 years straight. That is the difference.
Always take the opportunity to tell the world that you were right 🤣
havent bought tears because of the lack of traditional zelda dungeons and i wont until they restore them
Also the master sword losing power at all in both games is just a huge miss for me. Nothing worse than killing just a few enemies and then suddenly losing your evil banishing sword and having to fight with another easily breakable weapon
@@kmilli0313 agree with you m8 , for me zelda is all about the dungeons and puzzles :)

These games are cool...but every 3rd hit when your sword or other piece of equipment constantly breaks absolutely drove me nuts....I got through maybe 1 hour of breath of the wild and called it quits...such a tedious mechanic
Tears is just DLC for real.
To me testament to the fact that BOTW was the lightening in a bottle for Switch. Just like Tetris for Game Boy.
Yup. One of the greatest games of all time, launching on one of the best systems of all time.
Yay the greatest Nintendo UA-camr ever covering Nintendo news again. 😊
Totk was a massive let down for me tbh. Oh and I miss the motorcycle.
One thing on BotW's side is that it has two versions on Switch: Original and re-release that has all DLC on cart.
I own both versions, and I bet many others do too.
I actually own 2 copies of former and 3 of the latter.
