Happened to me sometimes, not specifically when I jumped from 2d to 3d games but I do feel like that on so many cases when a game is big in terms on map size, characters to use, mechanics. It gives me some particular sense of overwhelming, at a point that can't enjoy the game too much. It's better for me when the limits are more clear, so I can relate with you in that way.
I agree completely. I did grow up with 2D gaming, but I agree not because of that. I agree that so called limitlessness is overwhelming. I prefer boundaries while allowing for creativity. I felt like that with Far Cry 3 & 4. You could come up with lots of creative things to do when infiltrating enemy bases, but it encouraged you to figure out the best method to handle it otherwise you would probably get yourself killed.
So what you’re saying is that you have collector’s anxiety.😂 But yeah I kinda agree. Totk didn’t feel that interesting other than the creativity because it didn’t feel that different from Botw while on the surface but that’s the main place you’d be for most of the game and the creativity for lots of things were obsolete when there was the option for a more practical way of dealing with it like traversing was boring with the hover bike and most shrines were easy since they have those pads that need an impact on them but you could use a boom on them.
i feel personally attacked by your first comment lol. and i think ToTK suffered from "you can have it your way" syndrome. you could approach any obstacle from any angle that best suited you. but that application was done without restraint, and it made what should have been a Hyrule based adventure into a playground for Link.
totk was for me a very ambicious project so comparing every game with it will give you the sensation of overwhelm, same as talking about elden ring tbh.
oh, for sure - ToTK is on another level. to an extent, i feel like the developers WANTED you to feel overwhelmed. i just know that feeling aint for me lol.
