My God, what luxury. Nicest room I ever had was Ft Hood 3 persons our own bathroom. Also did WW2 36-man bay, wooden barracks. Hypocrisy of the Army, we could not cook in our rooms, this was before microwaves. but the orderly room had a coffee pot for their lifer juice. One of the guys in our unit got a telephone in his room, this was a major breakthrough.

Soldiers today don't know how good you got it, I was stationed at bliss 86 -88 and it sucked. There wasn't single soldiers act back then, we had room inspections all the time. 2 man rooms with bunk beds and 2 wall lockers that was it, bathroom down the hall and no A/C. We are out in the field for 45 days and come back and Top would have a wall locker inspection 2 days after getting back. That was what made me get out of the army.

Times have changed. A LOT! When I was stationed at Ft. Polk, La. in 1963-64 I had to share my room with 23 other guys and another 24 on the bottom floor. We had four sinks, five toilets and eight shower heads for all of us. We also had two standing wall lockers and one foot locker for EVERYTHING. I wonder how many soldiers today appreciate what they have.

I'm an old timer and always racked out in open bay barracks. Thank God we didn't have to cook for ourselves. In Vietnam we had 8 man plywood hootches and used old parachutes to divide off our bunks. We had it better than the grunts, though. If you had to pee at night there was a latrine about 50 yards away and a mama san to wash your fatigues. Nowadays I live like a king.

I was living in South Bliss prior to our units deployment to Kuwait. Our unit put 4 to a room. My roommate moved into the closet and I took the room. Same thing in the other room. These barracks were significantly better than the transient barracks by the snake pit or the demob barracks a couple of blocks away from the PX.

You are living large. In the mid 90’s we shared rooms and had 1 open bay latrine for each floor wing and one common day room for the whole 2 story barracks. No cooking in the rooms, but we could have mini fridges and TVs with cable. Pay phones where up in the day room or outside in a booth. Times have changed for the better 👍🏻

When I was in the fanciest room we had was at Ft Hood, three to a room, separate bathroom three floors, looked like a condo. You should have tried WW2 wooden barracks w/ 32 people to a room, roll over in bed, see the ground through the crack in the floor. laying melted paste wax on the floor. Running a buffer over it, till you could read a paper by the reflection. The also would not let us cook in our rooms, even though if there was a fire, the waxed floor would burn and melt. Army logic 😵‍💫

I was at AIT at Fort Bliss almost 20 years ago and those barracks weren't anything like this lol. I've been trying to figure out exactly where I would have been but it's been so long I honestly can't remember which building it was. It might not even be there anymore

Better than the USMC Camp Lejeune barracks. look up facebook posts lol. This place sucks. I wouldn't mind serving in other branches. Main thing i want is a private area, not just a shared room.

My barrack at Fort Polk is nothing like this. I sleep in the windowless room that is basically a kitchen while my roommate sleeps in his personal room. I can't live off-post BAH because I'm a private. It's suck and I hate it and I have to live here for like over a year.

As a disclaimer you should explain that not barracks are not the same. As a infantry man that was up at Ft. Drum, we didn't have it that nice. 2 guys to a room and 4 guys sharing a bathroom with 2 showers and the toilet.
