It's good to see. What ft. Bliss used to look like. I'm a history nut. I was born in 69. I remember I was with my dad. He was driving on Alabama St. I saw soldiers running in formation. During basic training. I was never a brat. My dad was honorably discharged. He was drafted in 1959. Us army went to basic training at fort ord California. First duty station was fort Richardson, Alaska. He was in ordnance supply clerk. I remember him saying. He was on guard duty. He was hearing a wierd noise. It was the waves hitting the rock. Haha. Memories for him. Thank you for the video. I appreciate it and you.

Thanks for the photos. From 1960 to 1970 I was a kid at Fort Bliss, except 1962/1963 when my dad was on a 1-year unaccompanied assignment to Korea and 1966/1967 when he was in Vietnam. Military brats really don't have a hometown, but Fort Bliss is it for me. I've only made it back a couple of times since then. Once as a USAF 1Lt I flew an F-15 into Biggs as a static display for a weekend airshow and the second time as a LtCol flying an F-16. Still took the time to drive around the post. Much had changed and, as I'm sure, still changing.

wow. Great share, Thank you kindly for doing so! My papa worked there for a long long time after his WWII service; and my wife's pop served in many of the missile defenses programs and taught at the air defense school. Thank you all for your service. I recall going on base many times with my dad and later with my wife's family, always felt like home. Still does whenever we get there, even with the changes!

I was born in 1963 in El Paso. I went to Austin high school and lived by Coldwell. Every morning you would the music of the coming day. The PX and commissary had different locations. One time the train took you to Fort Bliss for Armoured forces day. The officers club had weddings and parties. It was a different time. 9 1 1 hadn't happened. There was a canon in memorial park too. Public parks were crammed on holidays. Cook outs and volleyball. Good times

Thank you for nostalgic photos of in 1968, I was dispatched from Japan Air Self-Defense Force to Fort Bliss to learn the TSQ-51 Missile monitor system for one year in 1971. After that, I worked in the Fire unit in Japan, so I surprised to see NIKE radars. Especially the picture in the BC van was exactly where I worked. I am planning to go to Fort Bliss next year. I'm really looking forward to it. Thank you for the wonderful photos.

Hi, thanks for the comment. I stayed in that building for a couple of months (top floor west side at that time a big sleeping room). Then i moved to 1002 for again a couple of months. After that i moved to an apartment in El Paso (north). I was also in the Allied Student Battalion for a Nike Hercules training. In what field where you trained? Although there is a 20 year difference in staying at Fort Bliss, have you any pictures to share of the building and/or surroundings. I had an so-called host family. Was that still available in 1988? BTW In my class there were also a few Japanese students.

I taught the first Taiwanese 227 class, probably in 1963. That class was going to set up the first Hawk battery in Taiwan. They were going to take some Americans back with them, and I got in trouble with Jarhead Lt. Colonel, who was the assistant commandant of the school, for asking if I could help do the set-up in Taiwan. It was supposed to be hush hush, and I was not supposed to know about it.

Back in the day era 1968 Fort Bliss soldiers use to pack El Paso City Lines!
Headed for downtown El Paso hundreds or more! I even recall meeting a former Fort Bliss soldier in San Francisco!
He was known as Big Jack! an old veteran funny and humble with laughter!
He would tell me that he thought that El Paso was an amazing city to have alligators.
In downtown El Paso, I told him about some story that some person down.
In Louisiana wanted to play a joke on some El Paso mayor!
So he send him alligators in boxed crates by train to El Paso.
I don't know if the story holds any truth to it.
Fort Bliss soldiers would hang out in San Jacinto Plaza to meet El Paso's.
    Finest Senoritas! Many got lucky!
And many decided to call El Paso home after retirement from military service.
