Lots of videos on how to adjust a slipper clutch. Not many out there that demonstrate what it sounds like/drives like when the slipper clutch it loose! Thanks for this!
Personally, i like that you guys are about the only reviewers who take something right out of a package and test it as it came, and if something seems off you say, then you show what that was and what can happen. A person new to the rc world would not know what that sound was and have just driven that car for what looked like just a few minutes of disappointment, it would have broken and that would have been it. If i spent over $100 on something like that i expect it to be constructed correctly out of the box, but no matter where its made things are just not perfect out of the box, you show that. Then go the extra mile to show just how fast things can go horribly wrong when something isnt right. You also show the quality of the materials in several videos, you have had some cars on the bashing hill that pieces broke off, and others that can cartwheel and somersault up the hill even smack a sign, and just drive on. Seeing such things helps make a much better informed buying decision then a well edited good parts only video. Keep up the good work, breaks and all. Although i will admit, i would also like to see a update video on the ones that break about once or so a month that shows roughly how easy they were to fix, and what it cost to do so, or, if the cost to fix it was to high, it would also show that. For instance that boat thar arivved with a broken hull, vs this truck, one a few minutes of your time, the other a major undertaking and maybe not even still fixed.
I never heard of a slipper clutch, so the earlier episodes with this truck were educational for recognizing the problem, and this episode was educational for explaining its function and adjustment procedure. Seeing the truck's great performance after being fixed was very cool!
You can never please everyone, especially on the internet. Most times comments are made based on a misunderstanding or from a lack of maturity. I appreciate the follow up as I was wondering what was up with that truck.
Thats why its important to give any new car a look over before running.any brand any model probably and potentially will need either tightening or meshing or it could be defective.
U R right, I prefer watching you play instead of watching you fix. One thing I hate about this hobby is that I spend more time fixing instead of playing. LOL. But so addictive.
I am glad you fixed it Nate, it seemed that a lot of the comments (including mine) stated that it sounded like a slipper clutch problem. I don't remember any really negative comments on it or you. You are a smart guy Nate, I am sure that most if not all of us did not think any less of you over it and the same goes for your ability to fix it. Keep up the great videos Saylors, and thanks for doing what you do!
Great repair update video! This is what new comers need to see and hear. Like you said it can be frustrating when you receive an out of box rc and it doesnt work right. Thank you!
The first time I had a slipper clutch let go I didn't know what it was either. I thought the gears had stripped out or something. I took it apart expecting the worst but found the slipper was loose. Thing was, I tightened it back up the way the manufacturer instructed but it let go again the next time out. Now I set them Tight. Basically just tighten it down firm but not crushing it, then I back off about a 1/4 turn. Haven't had a part break or a clutch let go since.
Hey Nate I am and have always been a hands on person myself, I have been taking things apart and fixing them since I was a little kid. I am 59yrs old and I still think I am that little kid. I still fix things when they break. You go Nate. My wife and I have saved a lot of money over the years fixing it myself. If you are capable, go for it.😃😃
That was perfect guys! Exactly what I wanted to see. We didn't need a video on how to fix it, just a little info on whats under the cover. Its layed out just like a Redcat Volcano. That little truck seems to run a lot better now. Nice to see one break, fixed and back on the road! 👍
Hey guys are doing a great job. Don’t listen to the negativity or apologize for your way of doing things. I watch every day or two and have purchased and enjoyed the purchases you have recommended. Keep up the good work.
I'm glad it was an easy fix with no need to wait for the mails or anything. I feel like I might stay out of the more powerful RC ground vehicle market. The Octane XL turned me off a bit, along with the Redcat Racing Piranha. Both too fragile for the power they make. Disheartening to watch 200 bucks get ruined in a crash. But I still love my RC cars and trucks. Just less powerful stuff, at least for a while. I have been digging the Inductrix Switch Air. Bought the LED kit and fly it outdoors at night when the wind is flat. Fun.
I like working on Rc’s ground vehicles there are a lot easier than the real ones last time I changed the struts on my car I Hurt my myself LoL, but good job Nate 👍
Yep, if you ever get to that point where you make everyone happy let me know, we'll write a book and make billions of dollars! Anyway nice job, you know, you just got to ignore some of those people -- just cracks me up. That's what makes your sight so enjoyable so informative and cool is that you are very upfront, honest and enjoyable.
I dont know if you have to take off any bad msges but i dont see any haters. We all love u guys. Keep up the great work. We all learn something new everyday
Greetings from the UK. Really loved your channel...always enjoyable to watch. This video really helped us with our rc car issue. Thanks so much RC Saylors.😊
If you have a 8 mm open ended spanner to adjust it without removing the top plate. The tightness also varies according to surface run on. I dont support those that wreck stuff to say it is a poor product. As well a thank you for showing that it was not a faulty product but a bad adjustment setting.
Glad you finally decided to fix it lol another thing to make sure to to keep it about 3/4 of a turn from fully tightened and don't land throttle on off the ramp anyway good to see things are all good👍
Nice. A slipper clutch is a friction damper in the drive train. It will dampen shocks to the drive train when the car lands from a jump, and any other shock to the system, and reduce wheelspin when launching. It should not slip for more than a fraction of a second on launch, or it will overheat.
Hi there guys I'm Rob, I live in a place called Doncaster in South Yorkshire England an I'd just like to say your videos are brilliant and I watch everyone please never stop as your really good at it. God bless you and your family. Rc saylors forever
That is so awesome that you are watching from so far away!! One reason that I love doing what we do, as we have made some awesome friends from around the world 👍😃⚓ Thanks for tuning in. Have an awesome day!!!
FYI, Pinion gear mesh being too tight will also cause a similar squeal. If the mesh was too tight, the motor would likely also heat up quickly and possibly even put out a weak but bad burning smell even though it isn't that hot. So long as you catch it before it gets really hot, your wallet should be okay.
I had almost same experience I have no problem saying out of Traxxas Slash 500 doller problem out the box . We no why well I tune in y'all are like Allstate solidly covered 👍
This happened to the 9106 thunder truck, so I made a video replacing the slipper clutch and diff. Gears. I had to put a homemade gasket to line up the gears, and to keep the gears from stripping again.
Call it second chance Rc. Good fix !! . I like watching all you videos.. 👊.. just do as you fill . We all can't see happy at the some time anyway.. NC MOUNTAINS ❤..👍👍
People don't watch your channel to see you fix cars. They tune in to see what two regular people think about RC cars that come onto the market. There are loads of videos out there on how to repair hobby grade cars. I break something on a car new to me and I research the fix. Toy grade... well trying to find parts to begin with is hard enough...
Knowledge is power! And by the way you may want to by metal gears, I noticed you have a plastic spur gear, to avoid any more issue get a metal upgrade.
Love it. Do you by chance have a video that explains when you push the car, why it doesn't roll smoothly. Almost as if it's applying the break and how to solve that issue? For example: I bought 2 identical cars last week (Q903's). I only drove one of them for about 5 days straight. On day 5 I felt some resistance on one of them, but not slipping so I placed them side by side, and gave them each an equal push on the vinyl floor in my kitchen. One rolls about 10 feet, the other about 2-3 feet before stopping. So I took it apart, cleaned the diffs and re-greased them, and still only rolls 2-3 feet. The reason it's concerning is because on my 1/16th track, I took the new one out after noticing the resistance of this one and it completely out-performs it. The only good thing that's come out of it is now my son has a huge confidence boost because he kicks my ass. I need my title back >:) Any ideas?
Awesome love to see you fixed it and gave it another test . Looks like a really great truck . always believed you could fix it never doubted it bud . I love your channel all the boat vids have been a blast thanks for the fun entertainment .
I like the look of this truck. I think it is the wheels for me. Nice fix! I don't know if I would have figured it out. I would have been looking for a UA-cam video like this one.

YOU FINALLY FIXED SOMETHING AMD UPDATED US thank you I tighten the slipper all the way on my cars I like the torque better then I like speed and most of my cars are brushed when I get the 12428 Friday I will have 25 rc’s
Nice work Nate, I own one myself (only blue) I had to adjust mine straight out the box but mine seems twice as fast as yours. From standing start full throttle it wheel stands its the exact same RC ??
I agree with you about appreciate what you have ; so you take care of your hobby. I have an traxxas rustler vxl 4x4 and full throttle is all I know; but did slame it into a chain link fence on the first run. Great video; miss the KFC manufacturing plant spot.
late comment but I had a question regarding the slipper clutch engaging because I wasn't sure. Anyways when I drive my 4wd rc into a wall at full throttle and keep holding down the throttle (assuming it doesn't start driving up the wall and instead gets caught) is the slipper clutch slipping here because the motor is going however the driveshafts are not spinning as a result of the wheels being caught. Hope this makes sense.
So impressed that you did this follow-up video & fix of this issue.💯⚓👍 And, your points about beginners getting this RC were well explained along with your whole channel's purpose & what your primary focus is. I really love your followup videos, so far, that you have done - extremely helpful!!! JP❤👏👌⚓
Probably this is what is wrong with my ecx ruckus. It goes, but has that sound and iit doesn't go as fast as it used to, so this going to be the problem
I guess so..I didnt take it apart...I just went through the battery's side...I also had to adjust the steering crank becuase mine was too tight. Just basic typical inspection. Tighten screws. wheels nuts on all my new toys... A common problem for this truck is the differental....it'll start slipping. I didnt have to buy new parts....I just SHIM it TIGHTER....There's EXTRA shims on the bearing. Put the shim INSIDE the differental. If you own R/C grade toys.....you're going to have to learn to work on the differental. They'll all slip or need some type of adjustment...... it's all good....i got a 1/8 top the line $500 truck for $100..becuase it wasnt working. I just add a SHIM on the inside of the center differental..Mounted 4076 2250K 120A 4s 50c 5000mah...18T pinon...It'll do 50mph and pop wheelies....all day long.lol It's also on a PLASTIC pinon..They're nice and quite. Just do the gear mesh properly.
I have been watching your channel and have not seen any videos on how to break in an electric brushed motor is that even true I don't understand why other videos say this I am very new to this
Nice follow up! You might have saved a newcomer from major disappointment if they bought one with a loose slipper. I won't attempt to guess how many I told you so comments will be on this video😂
Really loving the channel. I just pulled everything out of my first truck (a brushed setup) and put in a brushless. Everything sounded and worked great until I put it on the ground. Then it started making that whining sound and not moving. I’m going to go check this slipper thingy now. Lol 😂. Thank you 🙏
Any body know anything on redcats earthquake 8e brushless rc truck? I have issues one day using it and it's started just go forward and backwards. But won't steer. Then now won't do nothing. Is it something do with rc remote or in truck?

Almost as if it's applying the break and how to solve that issue?

Well done Nate..Good to see that it was a simple and free fix.
Good info, I’ve burnt many slipper clutches before that sound is engrained in my head as what I don’t want =)
The famous WL 12480 truck from this channel could use one of these clutches!
I had to replace my rear diff, and my front is currently shot as well, because it's just so much fun to gun it.
I didn't even know that pricier vehicles had this feature!
Good find, but let's be clear - You will break things in RC. Every one of you. You too. Cars, boats, quads, planes, all of em.
It might be minor, say a stripped pinion gear. It could be major, such as when a VTX smokes, you lose video, and the resulting ninja-star-cartwheel crash slings quad parts across your state. Sometimes, basic maintenance will catch the big ones - checking the props, gear slip, XT60's, wheel nuts, video gear, water seepage through propshaft - all aspects of RC have basic maintenance steps you can do to test your craft, which may save the craft, money, and frustration. Sometimes, a defective part can ruin your bash session. But most of the time, it's wear and tear through usage that causes parts to fail, and the harder the use, the faster things wear out and break.
Fixing your gear is more time consuming, dirtier, and less glamorous than gapping that tree or landing the perfect jump. The skill needed to nail all those sick moves starts with fixing your S, over and over. Until you find a weakness and search the aftermarket for a better widget. Now that gap is a mile wide, that jump barely an inch tall, and you find your next Everest... and break it again. Rinse and repeat.
It used to be said that a REAL RC comes as a kit with a parts diagram. Bull. There's so much goodness in the RTF market these days that would be stupid. But don't be afraid to dig in and get your hands dirty. Take it apart, see how it ticks, or why it ticks, or for whom it ticks anyways take it apart. Somebody already has, I promise you. And that somebody posted a video about it. Or posted in RCGroups or Reddit, so you won't be alone when it comes time to put it back together and count all the extra parts.
That shiny new foam wing, lexan body, remote-reservoir shock, and glass hull aren't gonna stay that way. There's so much info out there to help you keep it that way, though, to help you maintain and repair, your gear, that you should never feel intimidated about fixing it.
Unless you have a helicopter. But that's your own fault.
Hahaha, well said about the helicopter, and all of this comment actually! I dont mean to reply with such a short comment myself but I dont think it could be said any better than what you said here! Totally agree 👍😃⚓ Happy RCing my friend!
Nice. Glad u where able to have more fun with it !
The fix videos are important because when I look up reviews I look up the rc saylors
That is very good to know, thank you 👍😃⚓
One of those good feelings in the hobby is figuring out how to fix something with a cost that is next to nothing.
Very much agreed!! 👍😃⚓
I was happy during the first video! And I am still happy LOL
Lol thank you very much 👍😃⚓
Well, that's good news. Much easier fix than if it had been gears. Did you put any Loctite on those grub screws?
Thank you so much I was about to buy another one but found this video❤️
Very informative, thanks guys for all you do!!!
Dave from OKC⚓️
As a rc racer I understand you guys are doing great on this channel your slipper pads might be worn out now I love the channel have fun :)
Love your humility Sir! I lean on your expertise, so it's nice to see you admit you do NOT know everything. Great video. Good explanation. Really appreciate you 4, well, Popeye has yet to drive or fly but yeah...lol. Amelia can fly the drone so I assume she can drive as well. Keep it up Saylors!!
Thank you John, that really means a lot 👍😃⚓

Nice work Nate, I own one myself (only blue) I had to adjust mine straight out the box but mine seems twice as fast as yours. From standing start full throttle it wheel stands its the exact same RC ??
I want you and Abby to build your own Tamiya kits and would be interested in what you and Abby pick for yourselves.
Im glad you fixed it
U guys make a great team!!! Great video..
Face it Nate, you're just the pretty face on this team, Amelia is the real brains.
Hope all is well with you & the family. Excellent video!!
I like the look of this truck
Oh and really nice neighborhood you live in 👍
Thank you very much 👍😃⚓
Yeah!! Cool content you guys carry out with review on new rc products in the market ✌
I agree with you about appreciate what you have ; so you take care of your hobby.
I have an traxxas rustler vxl 4x4 and full throttle is all I know; but did slame it into a chain link fence on the first run.
Great video; miss the KFC manufacturing plant spot.
What happened to that spot
It's all good, just keep doing what y'all do.Thanks for the videos.
late comment but I had a question regarding the slipper clutch engaging because I wasn't sure. Hope this makes sense.
I think everyone that said slipper clutch in the first video should get a thumbs up
So impressed that you did this follow-up video & fix of this issue.💯⚓👍 And, your points about beginners getting this RC were well explained along with your whole channel's purpose & what your primary focus is. I really love your followup videos, so far, that you have done - extremely helpful!!! JP❤👏👌⚓
I like this truck alot however I can't understand why the blue one is 50 dollars cheaper than the black one and the description is the same?
Early squad where you guys at (:

I wonder if that's what's wrong with my vkar truggy. Gotta try again to fix. Thanks guys.
Thanks, now I know what's wrong with my Losi slider !!
Probably this is what is wrong with my ecx ruckus. It goes, but has that sound and iit doesn't go as fast as it used to, so this going to be the problem
I guess so..I didnt take it apart...I just went through the battery's side...I also had to
adjust the steering crank becuase mine was too tight. Just basic typical inspection.
Tighten screws. wheels nuts on all my new toys...
A common problem for this truck is the differental....it'll start slipping.
I didnt have to buy new parts....I just SHIM it TIGHTER....There's EXTRA shims
on the bearing. Put the shim INSIDE the differental.
If you own R/C grade toys.....you're going to have to learn to work on the differental.
They'll all slip or need some type of adjustment......
it's all good....i got a 1/8 top the line $500 truck for $100..becuase it wasnt working.
I just add a SHIM on the inside of the center differental..Mounted 4076 2250K 120A
4s 50c 5000mah...18T pinon...It'll do 50mph and pop wheelies....all day long.lol
It's also on a PLASTIC pinon..They're nice and quite. Just do the gear mesh properly.
If you take the whole back end off the whole drive shaft comes out for very easy access
Takin’ it to the next level - love it! 😁❤️
Have you ever tried going on Polished Cement with RC CARS?
How do you fix it because my Traxxas rustler has that problem where it doesn’t even go in it slips too much I think
Good update video.
BTW I think the t-shirt is slightly optimistic but two out of three ain't bad :D
Awesome videos as usual....Is there a chance you could review the HSP brushless WOLVERINE in the near future?..... Thanks for all you do..
Glad it was a simple fix!
Just getting in from flying my plane . Today I must have lost range and could not get it .. it’s a neighborhood or two away
Good Followup!

Awesome info. Thank you for the videos you do!
I needed to learn how to fix a problem like this after crashing my truck.
So what truck is this
Really loving the channel.
I just pulled everything out of my first truck (a brushed setup) and put in a brushless. Everything sounded and worked great until I put it on the ground. Then it started making that whining sound and not moving.
I’m going to go check this slipper thingy now. Lol 😂. Thank you 🙏
Neutrons, or is it electrons, one of those is negative, and "bashes" into other things, only negative i could find on this

Any body know anything on redcats earthquake 8e brushless rc truck? I have issues one day using it and it's started just go forward and backwards. But won't steer. Then now won't do nothing. Is it something do with rc remote or in truck?
🤔 Slipper clutch is loose? Tighten it up. 👍🏼
Good self portrait on your tee shirt NATE???
