    With this IKEA PAX Wardrobe modification, we saved 375 euros going the DIY route.
    This is because the IKEA onsite contractor wanted 484 euros to resize the closets, so decided to go DIY instead. Picked up a Bosch circular saw model GKS 190, for 109 euros and started to learn how to cut straight IKEA panels.
    So not only "saved" 375 euros, but have a new power saw. Need to find things to cut now...

    Great video, what I can't get my head around is how you'd custom fit a Pax door without compromising the edge.

      Thanks! For the doors, it could be problematic depending on the width you cut them to, because I think the middle part is not solid and therefore would not be viable as a solid edge (basing this comment on having cut other boards, not doors, and discovered the zigzag carton in lieu of wood material.)

    It would have been nice to see the whole process and how you did it.

    Thank you for the video! Do you think that it is possible to cut the height down by about 5cm as well? Our ceiling is 3cm lower than the taller pax model and we were trying to use the taller model.

      Catherine Zhou thanks for your comment. Yes it should be no problem to reduce the height, and I would cut the excess from the top side so that any small imperfections of the cut do not affect the stability of the PAX.

      @@lemd49 Im looking to do something very similar. We have the 93inch height Ikea Pax and we are moving to a place where the ceiling is 89inches. Any tips or recommendations for resizing the doors?

    So you cut it ok. What about the old screw drivers? You opened new or you used normal screws ?

    • @lemd49
      @lemd49  3 роки тому

      For the part that I cut out, I could no longer use the IKEA fixing system there, and indeed used normal wood screws to fix those sides. Fyi, also used long wood screws to fix the vertical panels of all the modules (including the full size, not cut, ones) and give the whole set more rigidity.

      @@lemd49 Thank you very much for your reply. One more question. How thick is the board ? i want to buy a saw and i have to know how thick is the wood.

      @@gbmwp Thanks. I don't have access to the house anymore because it is rented but I got the plans from the web and measure the thickness of the main boards to be 22 mm.

    How much time did you spend working on these modifications....?!....the contractor has to drive to your place, spend money on the gasoline, use and eventually replace his blades and drill bits (as cutting IKEA particle boards with all kinds of garbage, even metal pieces mixed in that material dull the blades like nothing else), the same guy has to set up his tools, cover and protect your deck or floor, do the work you did, clean up the mess, pack his tools for the one day visit....all that takes time and time is money, so DO NOT COMPLAIN about paying that money to somebody willing to come to your door and do the work for you.... that IKEA contractor is not the one who is getting rich.... look at the 'blue and yellow' sign.. that corporation is becoming wealthier every time you buy this garbage furniture from them..... BTW... you cannot even modify these cabinets anymore.... IKEA corporation makes them even cheaper these days.. filled with cardboard and coated with paper foils.. go figure.....
