I feel like the Unknown was the AI trying to write Slugworth. He’s also a mysterious, scary rival chocolatier that is trying to steal a recipe from Wonka, even if it is all a setup by Wonka.
You're 100% right. It's just the AI aggregating all the information about Willy Wonka's story. Slugworth, being the Rival Chocolatier that wants to steal the Everlasting Gobstopper is literally written there as seen on the script but the AI, for some reason, picked up some information that 1. Slugworth's identity is technically _Unknown_ ... Therefore he's called "the Unknown" 2. the Everlasting Gobstopper is a cleaning product (literally what?)
In the book Slugworth isn't really Wonka's primary rival, just one of them, and there's lots of others. It might've been trying to make a Slugworth character but he doesn't live in the walls. Was it supposed to be a Vermicious Knid or Schnozwangler? Or the lickable wallpaper? It was probably just parsing pieces of all those things.

If I lived in Scotland and saw this, I would have bought tickets knowing full well it was a scam. I would have needed to know. Curiosity doesn’t kill the cat, it kills my wallet.
I like to think of the Unknown as Prodnose's daughter adopting a Scooby Doo villain identity to try to run Wonka out of business, but she's not very good at it. She's too friendly to be a legitimate threat.
That's because the AI that wrote the script isn't a creator... It's an aggregator of ideas and contents. I am 110% Certain the name "Willy McDuff" is just the AI misinterpreted some content that it took to come up with that name... Probably an Author's name of an article about the story somewhere. And Slugworth is called "The Unknown" because he is written as one, since he uses spies to steal from Wonka... Plus the AI probably aggregated Charlie and the Glass Elevator too and taken the Vermicious Knids to that
Ty. I said something similar in a different vid. "Unknown" just screams computer code for an output via a lack of information (very little is said of the corporate spies in the book or films).
At first I passed off the idea of parents calling the police as silly but then I put my mom mind on and realized this; >Be a parent >Take your kids to this supposed activity that's only about 40 bucks >Get there and it looks like a fake setup that's a trap for organ harvesting/trafficking. Yeah, I can see why some fingers were itchy for pressing 911. I will give the Unknown actress her dues though. The way she went goblin mode while not knowing the full context of her character will never stop being hilarious.
The crazy coincidence that The Unknown from this event became a meme right before Dead by Daylight would release their new, unrelated killer, The Unknown

the decorations are rented, the organizer didn't try at all, they're a scammer, which is evidenced by them selling AI generated books on trending conspiracies for a quick buck the only people who cared were the actors, who were also scammed by the organizer

personally my favorite thing to come out of this whole mess was when an incredibly talented person made a full-blown animatic on twitter and youtube shipping the tired oompa loompa lady and the unknown. its legit title is "the glasgow yuri experience." only the most unique disasters can spawn something as beautiful as that imo
What gets me is how obvious it is that the unknown is just an AI generated character that ChatGPT put in the script lmfao. I use ChatGPT for fun pretty frequently and the unknown is literally the epitome of ChatGPT creation. This whole thing is so fucking hilarious
I think maybe it took the concept of the guy from the willy Wonka movie from the 70s that tried bribing charlie into stealing the gobstomper recipe for him but turning out to be one of Wonka's workers. since for a majority of the movie the audience didn't know who he was, I guess that's where the AI took the idea of "the unknown". I'm guessing the part of "living in the walls" or something was when in one of the Wonka versions (forget which movie/book), willy Wonka mentioned that he shut down the factory because spies would come in to try and steal his recipes. not sure tho.
It says that the unknown lives in the walls. It's basically ai not knowing that people don't just say that in real world or make a character that lives in the walls unless it's an absurdest joke. Sometimes you just got to read the text to figure out that it's ai. Hell I'd say that the quote is more ai than her summary.
So sad for the actors, who are people who genuinely like working with children. I think the scam was probably sold because people only relied on social media and did not explore the site.
Charlie would be in charge of buying the props (including the nonexistent “holographic paper”), Dennis would insist on being Willy Wonka to hit on the guests but come off as extremely creepy, Dee would probably be forced to be the oompa loompa and ration out the sack of expired jelly beans that the gang found outside, Frank would rent out the abandoned warehouse and ignore all safety hazards, and Mac would either desperately try to stop the scheme or double down and write the script with Charlie to include stuff like the anti-graffiti gobstopper and the unknown bonus points if Cricket gets hired as the unknown and traumatizes the children before even getting into costume
my mom is from Glasgow and when i told her about this she said that it has a reputation for terrible "events". She took my sister to a "teddy bears' picnic" in the late 80s that was about the same level of quality as this.
I’m happy that (at least from what i’ve seen) it doesn’t seem like the parents took out their anger on the actors. It seems really shitty for the organizers to completely screw everyone over and leave the actors as the face of the event. As a cashier, i’ve often had the experience of managers and corporate passing down horrific policies, but because they’re in the back I’m the one who gets yelled at even though I have no control over it. I’m glad that for the most part, it seems like the parents recognized the effort the actors were putting in and not treat them like they were the ones at fault
I live right beside where the event was held!! my friend was over the day of Willys experience and we heard lots of screaming and shouting until about 9pm This area tends to be fairly chaotic and loud so I didn’t question what was going on. We genuinely blamed it on the full moon.
I’m floored more people aren’t talking about how a child predator was put in charge of a bunch of little kids in a shady warehouse literally tempting them with candy. That’s a full step above a white van.
The Unknown jumping out and scaring crying children makes even more sense when you learn it was a teenager in there. Glad to hear the actress is doing well!
Couldn’t put my finger on why these images made me feel vaguely ill, thought it was just the uncanniness of the AI, but you nailed it, it’s a trypophobia nightmare. In addition to all the other ways this thing was a nightmare.
From what I saw, this event was advertised on a local website or FB page (can't remember which) that has a lot of family events on it, and people bought their tickets from that. Basically, if you're asking "how could anyone who had seen the website not realise what this was?", the answer is that they didn't see it, and being on a trusted place to get tickets lent them an air of legitimacy.
Say it with me folks. “This 👏 is 👏 why 👏 we 👏 hire 👏 set designers 👏” Literally, any skilled designer could have made this work. Sculpting foam, backdrop painting…. There’s so many artist out there, and this is what companies choose to do. Damn.
the guy couldn't even pay his first-time gig actors some rip-off rate, do you think he'd spring for industry pros who know what they're worth? you're not wrong tho, he's far from an outlier in a general sense, and doing the bare minimum is becoming far too widespread. really feels like there's no appreciation for true creatives who have worked hard to master their crafts, such as set designers. it's not difficult to find passionate and skilled people able and willing to put in the good work, but they'll never be cheap enough for event "organizers" like him to be worth it.
"Hmm, you know what this fantasy, whimsical story needs? Noh-face from Spirited Away, crawling out from behind a mirror and haunting some three year-old children!" I get that the script was AI generated, but it took real humans to think this was an idea that should be dragged, kicking and screaming, into reality.
How inspiring to know that some of the most cutting edge technology currently available can be applied to one of humanity's most ancient traditions, scamming. What a time to be alive!
Not tryina sound overkill but this experience is exactly what I think about AI. AI did a generic, souless, nonsensical garbage, scamming a lot of adults and kids of their money and providing stress for everyone. But then 18:03 humans were able to take that experience and actually make... art! Something that AI could simply never and it's something that makes us human. I love this.
I used to be in Girl Scouts. When I was in high school, my troop used to put on a ton of events for younger girls. My mom and I were talking about this and she said it looked like an event my troop would put on and I got offended. We gave the kids way more than one piece of candy. Also, we weren’t charging parents that much, I think we charged $10 at most.
“The actor who played Willy was exposed for grooming a 16 year-old girl” 2 mins later… “The actor playing The Unknown was actually a 16 year-old girl” With that information in mind, I am so glad the actors never had the chance to get to know each other.
Imagine being a child, your parents tell you they will take you to a fun event based on the chocolate factory and its this. 10 years later that kid will be thinking about it as a fever dream. Did it actually happen or did i imagine it?
The ai script had potential for a horror attraction. You thought you were going to get a wholesome Chocolate Factory tour until the Unknown busts out of the mirror dimension, just like in the movie ofc, and chases the guests around and they have to stay still or they'll be dragged into the mirror world. The kids are gonna love it.
People didn’t necessarily see this website when booking tickets, there was originally a tickets website where you could book tickets for Glasgow events, this event is no longer up there but it had proper descriptions presumably sent by the organisers.
Even if you somehow couldn't tell it was all AI generated, would it not set off red flags that there was only ONE actual photo? And you have to work to find it too... the rest is literally all concept art
They didn’t book it on the website. There were local leaflets with activities for families to do during half term and the Willy wonka experience was advertised on them.
@@horriblehistoriesfanaccountiebacking this up, someone on a forum shared a coworker of his saw it in the flyer and booked the whole family. I think most people who attended didn’t even see the AI ads
My theory is that if the script was written by AI, the Unknown was the AI basically personifying the infamous Tunnel scene from the original Willy Wonka and the Chocolate factory movie. That's the only thing I could think of that would cause AI to insert an ominous and dark character like the Unknown in an otherwise whimsical experience.
@@aribantala I don't know enough about AI to try and confidently say that AI created the Unknown based exclusively on the Tunnel scene from the original movie. It could be equally possible that the character is just an amalgam of all of the dark moments across all adaptations of the original book.
Making the whole website with ai, writing the scripts with ai and the APOLOGY with ai, makes me wonder how the creator of this manages to get dressed in the morning.
As a Scot, I have truly never been more proud of my country and of Glasgow lmao Also about the Halloween costume… there was a comic con in Glasgow this month and people were dressed as the Unknown and the Wonkydoodles. It was fantastic.
the way the scripts given to actors feature the audience's reaction is killing me. like there are no stage directions, it's written like a story. and i've read enough chat gpt bs to know that is EXACTLY how it writes
I can't wait until a very small child who went here grows up and lives with the nonsense memories, until they're like 16 and have to clarify with their parents that they really _did_ go to an empty warehouse with playground-sized candy decorations and a strange shadow beast.

I also cannot get over the "lives in the walls" part
Like that's just an internet meme that's been floating about for some time.
You're 100% right. It's just the AI aggregating all the information about Willy Wonka's story.
Slugworth, being the Rival Chocolatier that wants to steal the Everlasting Gobstopper is literally written there as seen on the script but the AI, for some reason, picked up some information that
1. Slugworth's identity is technically _Unknown_ ... Therefore he's called "the Unknown"
2. the Everlasting Gobstopper is a cleaning product (literally what?)
It was probably just parsing pieces of all those things.

that's because when they told us that, we were kids who couldnt be trusted with nuance yet. the modern internet was also more or less new, new is scary. nowadays it's much more accesable than purchasing or borrowing a billion encyclopedias. and it's necessary to use now.
forget about the lonelyness epidemic from the lack of a "third place", if you want information, or to buy things like groceries or banking if your overworked, sick or disabled, or hell, get or maintain a job to buy those groceries, you want any of it, you need the internet.
the once new scary place is now not new and very necessary.
but because they put off learning to HOW to trust the internet and balance it with skepticism for so long, (something our generations even have trouble with, ie mlms) and they didnt live through the wildwest era of the internet, they assume every site is as trustable as wikipedia, which in theory should be as trustable as your local library.
couple that with the fact a lot of their childhood friends are dead due to age, empty nest syndrome and youve got a lot of desperate lonely people who dont have the proper tools even with a sharp mind not yet damaged from things like dementia.
