  • Puerto Escondido - THE BIGGEST SWELL OF THE YEAR 2022. Playa Zicatela aka the Mexican Pipeline went XL on August 18, 2022 and Maria Fernanda was there to capture all the action in 4K.
Nathan Florence and Grant Twiggy Baker were among the several standouts during the early morning session. This swell was significantly bigger than THE CODE RED II swell that hit Tahiti in July. It was also bigger than Hurricane Frank. This swell offered up the best day of the year in Puerto Escondido and pulled in bigger surf than the Outerknown Tahiti Pro by WSL
It's been an eventful summer and we look forward to seeing what Hurricane Howard brings to Southern California later this month. Make sure you subscribe for all the upcoming highlights. Our team appreciates all the support!

The average person has no idea what a badass individual you have to be to survive one these wipeouts. You could be an Olympic athlete or a triathlete in the best shape of your life but that doesn't mean that you could ever survive one of these hold downs... because there's just no substitute for having balls of steel.

I tell my friends that have never surfed or spent much time in the ocean, surfers at that level are the most physically fit athletes in the world. That’s life or death in those waters.

Every time I’ve paddled out there I almost died. It’s a super heavy wave. At least it’s a sandy bottom so that helps a lot in surviving it. Even just standing on the shore up to knee high water on the shore, the wave will pull you into the ocean

@@ponolovefarms3926 "...the most physically fit athletes in the world" -- uh, not even close. I would reel off the various athletes in various sports who are in better condition, but my fingers would be too tired. Surfers have specialized muscles for paddling. They have great ocean awareness and endurance -- great balance and skill, but NO, they are NOT the most physically fit in the world. That's a crazy statement.

Same here. Fall of 1988. Stayed right across the street at Mario's. Took a board to the face. I got 11 stiches from "El Doctor Muy Moderna" for the bargain price of $25.00. Downside, no pain killer.

Just wanted to let you know brother your dad is very proud of you. Those first couple trips I took to P.E. and Killers in 88-90 solidified my spot in our line up's. Your pop's and others gave me the confidence to make a 16 year old grom from the war zone in O.B. into a 12 year competitive run. Much Aloha

thats the plus with a sandy bottom thats its safe, scar wise when you dont get hit by your own board, on the other hand the sand makes the water pretty heavy, so extra power when whiped out, waching machine plus like i used to call it 😅

Would be cool if you captured the paddleout, the ambience of the place, more of the people. Not just shot after shot of people already up riding on the wave. You don't even show the paddle for the wave. The actual ride is only like 30% of surfing. Watch surf channels Surfers of Bali and Norcal Surfer to learn a thing or two.
