Watching this ending makes me cry so much! Because I’m not watching Adrien Cronauer flying home. I’m watching Robin Williams flying to heaven, and that tape he left is his farewell to everyone who grew up with him and watched his stand up as well as his films. Goodbye Robin. Thanks for the laughs.

I worked at a brewpub with a beer garden where we'd do movie nights during the summertime. We put together a Robin Williams tribute night that summer of 2014, with "Good Morning Vietnam" being the final film played. Williams' sudden death had really affected me. I'd grown up watching so much of his work and the fact he was just gone, so suddenly, was eating away at me.
It was probably 1:30 in the morning when "Good Morning Vietnam" finally ended. I was tasked with cleaning up the beer garden before closing. Something about this scene, seeing that DC-8 take off and the music fading in as Robin Williams/Adrian Cronauer's voice faded out put me at ease. It was probably just the happenstance of the whole thing, but I remember clocking out that night feeling just a bit better.

The day I post this comment, Robin "Adrian Cronauer" Williams would have celebrated his 71st birthday. I admittedly have not seen Good Morning Vietnam start to finish, but the bits and pieces I've seen (this one included) made me realize how much of a comedic powerhouse Mr. Williams was. I do recognize him better as the Genie from Aladdin, Mrs. Doubtfire from the film of the same name, and Mork from Ork on Mork and Mindy. This comedy and acting legend, beyond shadow of a doubt, had the ability to turn anyone's dark day into a bright and sunny day in a matter of moments, he was that good! God rest Robin Williams' soul, he without doubt is missed!

Robin Williams brought joy to the lives of so many people through his comedy, acting, and charity work. There is no doubt he will forever be remembered for his comedic genius and heartwarming performances.
Tragically, Robin died by suicide in 2014 at age 63. The event shook the entertainment world and caused millions of fans to grieve for the loss of such a beloved actor and human being who brought so much humor to the world. What many people do not know is that depression was not the underlying cause of Robin’s suicide-rather, it was a little-known brain disease called Lewy body dementia.
In the last year of his life, Robin experienced a startling pattern of behavior. His friends, family, and film colleagues could tell he was not himself as he began exhibiting symptoms like confusion, forgetfulness, paranoia, hallucinations, anxiety, personality changes, and difficulty with movement. Robin could tell something was wrong, too, but he did not know what was happening to him, why it was happening, or how to stop it.
Robin and his wife, Susan Schneider Williams, sought help from numerous medical specialists, but were unable to obtain a correct diagnosis before his untimely death. After his death, an autopsy revealed advanced stages of Lewy body dementia, a less common form of dementia that affects an estimated 1.4 million people in the US.

The media had its usual lack of respect upon Robin's death, reporting his suicide like it was a character flaw when it was one of the most honorable things a man could have done in his situation. Sparing his family the misery of a really nasty decent to death was something I hope I would have the courage to do. -Veteran '66-68

i thought Adrian Cronauer was a fictional character till i looked up his name. he left a yr before i arrived in Da Nang, so i missed his broadcasts. while watching Arm Forces TV, sitting on the rivers watching all the violence in America. i said to myself "I'm safer over here than in America, at the moment." although it wasn't safe, i wasn't being shot at, at the moment. Charlie wasn't stupid to fire on a ship, that could fire heavy rounds back. of course the ship personnel all got a combat action ribbon because Charlie "did" shoot at us with small arms. our new XO never got one, although he tried, down in "Square Bay." but like i said, Charlie wasn't stupid. oh and on that note, i don't want to see "Thank you for your Service." it's bs, since y'll didn't support us with our little stint in the unpopular war. you're 42 stinking yrs too late. sorry, but that's my feeling on that.
