I’m 16, I just got an e30, I’ve been getting it ready for paint but I really wanna do some engine work since it doesn’t start, I’ve been told that it would be to complicated but I find it not to hard , any advice/tips? What are thing I should look out for? Price ranges i would be looking at? Thing I should watch or read, and we’re to find them(I have some car knowledge and have the tools) Thank you!
Hey man! Thanks for the comment and congratulations! Welcome to the club 🙂 so the m20 is a very simple power plant but it has its quirks as it relies on a few different components to run smoothly.
To completely rebuild the engine, buy yourself the Bentley manual. Take your time and read the specs required for each component. I.e bore diameter, crank journal measurements.
Make sure to visually inspect the old bearings as they will show signs of the current health of the internals.
Be sure to not skip replacing the rings and be careful to not snap them when you're installing
Always use plenty of assembly lube
While you have it apart make sure you replace ALL the seals. Last thing you want is the rear main leaking after reassembly
If you plan on replacing any electronic component, let the AFM be the first one. These cars are nearing 40 years old, a refurbished AFM will do wonders.
Don't cheap out on the crank sensor and plug wires.
When adjusting the valve train, be sure to replace any eccentrics that are flattened out. These worn eccentrics or rocker arms will cause you to never get the adjustment right.
Those are just a couple things, I'm sure there are a few more that I'm overlooking.
We are more than happy to help at any time. Shoot us a dm on Instagram, we would be happy to send you a water pump stud kit to help with the build and with any questions 🤘🙂
@@superbimmerbros thanks man I’m gonna look at some videos and try to learn more about the engine, I’ll be sure to dm you, again thanks 🤝🏻
@@bryancano9290 no problem at all! We will be doing an m20 rebuild on the channel soon too! Hopefully it helps 🤘
i have the car on neutral how do spin the driveshaft ??
If the car is in neutral be sure to disengage the parking brake or "e" brake. Once it's free you can spin it by hand 😊
Does that b%* tube washer have a part # on it ? I'm almost done refurbishing my engine and I don't have that washer under the tube.
Hey Geremie! It is NOTORIOUS for getting lost but looks like it's still available. Part number is 11151280937 🙂
@@superbimmerbros thanks bro
