I hope we can get a video on why cloud flare, skiff , and pork bun are a nice combo as well as a more in depth explanation on how to connect all 3. Business owners want to know about how and why these 3 work so well together.The problem is setting up the custom domain within skiff. Porkbun and skiff use different terminology.
Lmao, I was doing email routing with cloud flare to my Gmail account and I made 4 email addresses. After doing all the setup and testing for 1 hour, I was very tired.
The moment I took a break, this guy appeared out of nowhere.

Thanks a lot, Christian! I have been using skiff for my small side projects. Thinking to move from from google business workspace to skiff.
But the problem is Google Docs access. Clients cant add my custom email to there Google Docs or other services. I need to have my custom email attached to Gmail.
Any idea how to work on this?

You can create multiple free Skiff accounts. Account switching works just like it does in Gmail. You can be signed in with multiple accounts and switch accounts with a dropdown. They also do have the Pro version which is paid and allows up to 3 custom domains on the same account.
After following all these steps, who is hosting the website for the custom domain?

Hi, great video btw, I already did all of the setup, but I got one question, why do I need to use cloudflare to setup my DNS when I can just register directly in porkbun? Is there a feature that porkbun is missing?
You can absolutely use Porkbun DNS! I recommend Cloudflare to my audience since it offers speed and security benefits if you ever have a website, and since my audience has come to know it, I figured it would make most sense to show setting it up with Cloudflare. But using Porkbun DNS is perfectly fine.

How about when signing in? Do you have to sign in with the original skiff email or can you sign in with your custom domain address?
Once you create the custom domain setup, you log in with that email to check that account. The skiff domain is the master account/account manager , which also can be used to access all mailboxes

Not sure why he didn't use CloudFlare as domain registrar as well as for DNS?
Cloudflare is great as a registrar, but it has 2 limitations I don't like:
1. Not a ton of TLDs are supported. Porkbun gives you way more options, and people might enjoy the variety when looking for a personal domain.
2. Cloudflare doesn't allow you to change nameservers. If you wanted to use a different DNS management system in the future, you'd have no choice but to transfer your your domain.
If they have the TLD you like and you are a fan of Cloudflare, I can definitely recommend their registrar. I have a few domains there.

I was trying to create a new account on skiff, but unable to create. I got cpcha error but the things is I didn't see any catch on the page.
Skiff was acquired by Notion and is being shut down in August, so I wouldn’t recommend signing up.

The process of adding the DNS records is very similar. Just copy the records from Skiff and add them using these instructions: support.squarespace.com/hc/en-us/articles/360002101888-Adding-custom-DNS-records-to-your-Squarespace-managed-domain
I believe I figured it out, however, I ended up getting an error message because I did not disable the proxy setting, now what?
Skiff should scan the records periodically, so you can disable it and check the Skiff settings panel again to see if the domain is activated.

Looks like ll Skiff services, including Mail, Pages, Calendar and Drive, will be sunsetting August 9, 2024, as part of Skiff's acquisition by Notion.
Therefore you can no longer create new Skiff accounts. ☹

@@rennspeed not that offer free custom domains and PGP encryption. If you want a free custom email, you could look at Zoho Mail. If you want free PGP email, you could look at Proton Mail. None offer both for free though.

I have an update you can watch in the pinned comment. But the short answer is, there is no best alternative if you want free, privacy-focused, and support for a custom domain.
If you just want a free option to support a custom domain, Zoho Mail. If you want a free option that respects your privacy and can part ways with a custom domain, Proton Mail.
If you want both (privacy + custom domain), pay for Proton Mail or StartMail.
@Craylor They both suck. Zoho has 5 users limit and proton mail does not allow to add custom domains without paying

Fair point! Technically, you can get certain TLDs for free like .tk, but most people want a .com, and you’re not going to find those for free unless there’s a “catch” like buying a year of web hosting from a company.
Catch: No support for GNU/Linux
Yeah given that open source do find it odd that no Linux support. Still great service and am sticking with Skiff. Young company doing great things.

I don't know what it really change... The Windows and Mac app are juste another window of the web interface
The website should work fine.
@@moseso You get e-mails offline. Also some other offline features. And tbh I feel a bit more secure using an app rather than browser which can easily get infected.
