This is a neat trick if you want an email aliasing solution for a secondary domain you just purchased for like real cheap. However, I don't want to sound like a Negative Nancy but this is HORRIBLE advice if you want to have a domain with good standing on most email services. This method will cause DMARC DKIM/SPF checks to fail, and your domain is going to get flagged so bad that it'll become completely unsuable. Please, if you value your domain ability to send emails do as Craylor says @3:40, pay for a custom email with a catch-all option. Something like Tutanota for example for $12/year you get all you need to start receiving and sending emails, they show you how to pass all auth/sender policy checks with the dns records on Cloudflare with the added value of privacy from the email company itself.

Awesome tutorial for personalized emails. Personally I think it would work great for people who have short term projects. But for long term business I don't see much future because gmail will not allow you to send bulk emails as it has a limit of sending emails per day and per month.
I've been banging my head on a desk for days trying to get this to work, and ultimately it ended up working perfectly after setting up 2FA and app passwords. I'm using Porkbun email forwarding, though I don't know if that would make a difference.

I've setup gmail smtp to send emails and it goes the the receivers junk mail box. With the more stringent email requirements in place which is looking for DMARC, DKIM etc, this solution is not that great. I've tested Brevo which let's me send emails without emails going to junk. It's a bit more complicated to setup, but it's worth it.

just a heads up, adding your custom email to gmail that way using your own gmails smtp, make it not alighn with SPF,DKIM, DMARC. and most will go to spam.
So if you want to receive own domain email in gmail with this method, what do you put in? I'm getting confused on it since I had my own domain's web server in there previously. i want to get rid of godaddy's mail since switching to 365
You would want to follow the steps to setup Cloudflare email routing. Make sure your domain name is pointing to Cloudflare. To receive it in Gmail, you simply need a free Gmail inbox to forward it to. Make sure to cancel your GoDaddy email hosting once everything is switched over.

Stay as far away from Cloudflare as you can, nothing is free. I am a Cloudflare customer and if you do not fall into one of their "paying tiers" you get no customer service and responses (if any) will be cut and paste responses which will never address the problem. Guys like this one touting Cloudflare have no clue how Cloudflare actually works, I kid you not it will be an absolute nightmare. If you don't believe me try it for yourself lol but don't say I didn't warn ya!!
I would never imagine I would get customer service for something that is free, and if they do offer customer service, then this shows that the company values it's potential customers base. There are numerus help forms, videos, and chat boards online that are way more helpful in most cases that have already figured out the problem, the company cant possibly know every posable problem and how to fix them, expressly one as large as Cloudflare. The company want's to make a profit and anyone that is thinking that you can get anything for free are not thinking critically.
Great video! The way to get around the "Be careful with this message" is to add both Cloudflare (fantastic company) and Gmail to your SPF record. UA-cam keeps deleting my comment for unknown reasons, but you basically list both in your single SPF record. I would post the example, but I think that is why it keeps deleting my comment.
2FA on and using APP passwords is the only way to have this setup as google deprecated the feature of signing in with weak app logins in May 2022. I fell into this issue with one of my programs that used a gmail account and couldn't authenticate until I enabled 2FA and used an APP password.
Hi Craylor. I've watched this video and many others on UA-cam, but I am not able to connect my custom email from Cloudflare to my gmail account. I get as far as the "Add another email address you own" page. As soon as I press "Add Account," I always get redirected back to my email account. I never get to the confirmation. Is there anyway to solve this in order to link my email from Cloudflare to Gmail? Thank you in advance.
There was another video on this where the guy did some DNS settings to sign the email, so it verified you control the domain name, and it gets rid of that warning.

Google has disabled the ability to enable less secure apps as of May 2022. Because of this, the previous solution of enabling less secure apps is no longer valid. Steps: Go into your sending email address and make your way to the settings. Find two-step authentication and enable it. Under two-step authentication there should be a tab labeled App passwords. Click on it then select mail as the app and your device of choice Use the password generated from the app password as the password for your Gmail account.
Did anyone manage to make Gmail custom email sending work? I always get this error at the SMTP step : "Couldn't reach server. Please double-check the server and port number." Also tried with 2FA and an application password. Seems weird that gmail can't reach their own SMTP servers...
My host doesn't offer email services. So I need t use an SMTP plugin in order for the contact form to be able to send me emails, would this cloudfare routing feature replace that? Also if I am collecting subscribers through , lets say mailchimp or mailpoet, would I be able to receive those subscriber emails via cloudfare routing?

Hey! Great video! Unfortunately, I already had the problem of my emails landing in the spam folder when I had configured it through Gmail. I then opted to use Zoho mail free tier and configured my personal email, and I am super happy that my emails no longer land in the spam folder. It is funny how Gmail did not solve my problem but Zoho mail did. Although, email forwarding on cloudfare is still ON which also keeps my mind at peace of not missing any email. Disclaimer: I am not paid or in partnership with zoho mail on any level. I am just a happy user of their free tier!
Hey, that part while I have to enter gmail without @ part and password doesnt work, it says my user or PW is wrong but it is not, can you help me with that a bit? I have to enter current gmail prefix and its password? Still tells me its wrong xD
i tried to complete this setup but when i entered the smtp server ,username and password , it always says that authentication is failed , even the details are 100% correct . dont know what is the error here 😞
The email feature of cloudflare is only good for forwarding. You cannot reply using the same custom/business email. It is good only if you intend only to use your username@yourdomain for receiving email, and *not* for sending email.

@@JustFlow.Official It worked for me! i just turned off 2fa on my cloudflare, and i made a new google account and turned on less secure apps, turned out i was following the tutorial wrong but it works now. the first time i sent an email it got marked as spam so i marked it as "not spam" then it got put in promotional in gmail. but eventually it got put in my main inbox.

If you use iCloud + all the instructions are forwarded to you and you don’t get that sent via Gmail.

Instead of entering your real google password, you need to enter an app-specific password generated by google.

There are many free Business Email Provider Like Zoho and other services. Besides unease it is good for the proper brand .
