Nissan Micra review: carbyr.uk/1S8oz5D
Watch our latest video: bit.ly/carbuyervideos
After several years in the wilderness, the new Nissan Micra is something of a return to form for the famously user-friendly supermini. It’s an attractive car; far more dynamic-looking than its predecessor without appearing threatening. It offers plenty of space for four adults on a short journey, plus a decent boot. Technology is greatly enhanced over the previous model and the engines are clean and economical. It’s not the most rewarding supermini for keen drivers, but it promises to be very easy to live with, with typically good Nissan reliability and low running costs.

My K11 Nissan Micra is 18 years old... trouble free....still got original lights etc!
Looks better then previous gen
PenguinrulesUK Pretty much any car looks better than that monstrosity.
PenguinrulesUK anything does!!
Apparently the windows in the back are manual on ALL trim levels...unbelievable! Despite this, seems like a lovely little car.
The car itself actually looks pretty smart
The previous generations were exclusively bought by die hard Nissan fans. This one might appeal to more people but with these disastrous trim levels it'd better be a lot cheaper than the competition.
No that would be a Smart car
just joking
The standard gets bluetooth, lane departure warning and intervention system.. but no A/C? wtf.....
Great review my friend! You quickly went through what matters to most people buying this car: seat comfort and space, trunk size, equipment, driveability, engine noise... Like a lot of other people have noticed it though.. Hard to justify going with a Micra when a better equipped Clio is cheaper. Design wise I prefer how the new Micra looks but this is a matter of personal taste.
What is it with reviewers always sitting and scratching on plastic? nobody touches it, you drive the car. that obsession is pretty ridicolous
I know right
"Sounds like a washing machine, I like it" lol wtf hahhaha
jbk94 exactly what I thought lmao
should i buy new mazda 2, new suzuki swift or the new nissan micra for my first car?
Why don't you do a review on the non boost engine model..?
Renting one of these for a week and I have to say I am quite impressed. Nothing like the old one.
Looks great and the drive is not bad. Wish the engine was more powerful though as on a steep hill you will be in first gear all the way up. Great effort though Nissan, 8/10.
How does this new micra compare to the new fabia, anyone know???.
I saw one for the first time today. Such a great looking supermini. Too bad it's not electric. The Zoe is still the only game in town for that size of car which is insane considering they've been selling it for 5 years.
liking the look of the new micra... looking a lot fresher than the dated fiesta styling
I am really diggin the looks of this car, I am going to buy my first car by the end of the year and this looks a great deal. Anyone test-drived this bad boy yet?
Did you assume the car's gender? it's female TRIGGERED!!!
Orange & Teal LUT?
Great video!
I love the new nissan micra my dad thinks it's a space ship I was in the front of it very nippy and sporty I'm definitely going to get one for my second car..
I've heard two different stories about the base of this car, one it's a restyle of the last model and another that it is a rebodied Clio. Certainly the hidden rear door handles and rear end shape would suggest that it is a new Clio underneath along with the hard points on the styling. Micra has always been small in the back, and this looks no different. It is good to see Micra being a more competitive package though.
I'd recommend the Opel Corsa 1 liter turbo
Looks really good tbh
One question sprung to mind taking into account the issues he raised regards trim and room etc - why buy the Micra when you can buy the Polo, Ibiza, Fiesta, Corsa and so on. I've test driven Nissan Notes and found they are as tinny as a an empty can and feel barely average inside!!! However, being Japanese I'd imagine in terms of reliability it would put many makes to shame!
The usp is how it looks....fantastic :)
Andrew K, Northern Ireland I was thinking exactly the same when he said that too! Also I would rather have a car that is 8/10 in all areas than one that is hit and miss.
Yip, its a great looking car, none are really 10/10.
james is a great reviewer ... i enjoy his reviews as much i enjoy mats
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
Expensive, got one to over £23K on the configurator, for a Micra!! What is the differentiator now between this and a Pulsar? Is a Note a better proposition while still available?
and with manual rear windows even on mid-spec, you're actually forced to add options to make it a usable car
If someone had told me that this is Peugeot's latest incarnation of the 208, I wouldn't have questioned it, so full marks for exterior styling. Full marks as well for the reference to 'getting my leg over' in a car review, despite panto season being over.
It is a very pretty car!
Not much room!? It's a micra.
you have point !!!!!! LOL !!!
Jon Bushell yo damn right, mate!!!! This reviewer just asking too much for supermini, even criticize interior material, for not having leather all over the place, c'mon this is Nissan it's supposedly cheap and durable, it's not mercs
Jon Bushell he actually has a valid point, if this car's rival are the Polo, Fiesta, Mazda 2, and Fabia which all have more than adequate room in the back then it is critical to highlight this to possible buyers.
Im a bit upset with him describing the interior. TBH the interior trim is very high quality. Dont get how he thinks the screen and cameras are grainy?? and the leather is actually available on the top spec.
Do you think he is a little biased as he wants a polo for himself?
......sounds like a washing machine and he likes it??? what is this guy on?
tbh I can't stand him because if he ain't comparing a car to a golf then he pulls the car down for everything its a smart looking car and it a Micra there known for cheap and cheerful and the space is good for a Micra
I don’t get electric windows, I get keep-fit windows. -James Batchelor, 2017
Yooka: Bit of a 90s throwback, isn’t it?
I have not seen a single person in my life till yet who sits fuckin upright in back seats
I didn't understand, were you praising Micra or were you pessimistic about the car. I'm still trying to understand your views on it.
Back seats just put me off. I have to put my kids in there lol
I prefer my Micra 2006 160SR with 1.6 litre engine delivering 110 HP.
The glove compartment can store a 2l bottle of water with ease!
crying about the back of a Nissan Micra being small?? are you mad? what's it called again, oh, Nissan MICRA. nothing about the name suggests it's luxuriously large or spacious.
stop moaning about size when judging a car with a name like MICRA lol.
Muppet.
James Batchelor and compared to other cars of its class, it sure does seem to be small. larger than how it once was, indeed.
Absolutely agree. It's not fair to expect this type of car to deliver sporty performance or to have a huge boot or to feel powerful. It's a small mini which does a good job around town
addieroxrev09 basically, yeah! and it doesn't have arm rests? i mean cmon! I'd never expect it to have arm rests!
Remo Barcellone There are ways to make the back more spacious by adding a panoramic roof. If others can do it then so can Nissan.
Danny Ward You should probably tell Nissan that then. sounds like there's something they don't know, you might even get hired by them to help design interiors! clearly you are remarkably clever chap and would bring a wealth of fortune to Nissans doors.
or maybe.... they aren't giving you such a feature in the bottom of the range Nissan car? hmm yeah that really sounds more plausible.
but who knows. such a mystery.
Car look good and is vast improvement from the old Micra but again this car and many in this class really should be design big enough so at least 4 six footers people can sit in it with enough leg and headroom.
Look quite decent. I think they should of change the name thought, "micra" reminds of an oap car.
There are two not-so-good reasons why I'd still buy one. First, the styling, both exterior and interior, which is actually quite irrelevant to my needs since I'd choose handling over looks. Two, the headrest speakers. I just want one in a car. If only the Micra comes with a Mazda engine and chassis. I'll be waiting for the next Mazda 2 I guess, well if it runs with HCCI that is. But the Micra is still on the list of "superminis I'd want to buy", along with the Mazda 2, the old Swift Sport, and a bunch of hot superminis.
I don't think HCCI will be in for another year at least. I also love Mazda's handling, manual gear shifting, design... Every single car I see I compare to a Mazda first. I owned a Mazda 3 and it was the best car I've ever had for the money I spent on it. also, maintenance is cheap and reliability is high. Can't go wrong with Mazdas, Hondas, some Toyotas and some Nissans.
Well I have to wait for the 3 and 6 before the 2.
I currently drive a Mazda 2, and just like you, I compare most cars to Mazdas. The Mazda 2 is a very legit car and I don't think I can find a better car for its price. It's pricey compared to other superminis but it's money well spent. But the maintenance is quite expensive here.
The sister car Clio makes a lot more sense than this. Despite it being around for a while now, it's arguably better looking, is better equipped, cheaper, is available as an auto, and has that wonderful 1.2 turbo engine.
Arguably better looking? I don't think so... I am a fan of Clios but this car looks really good.
Looks like the qashqai and the note just had a baby. 😂
"It sounds like a washing machine. I actually quite like it." Okay...
2:13 infotainment system fits well!
I think that is actually a design choice.
looks good
i don't understand why there is no air condition on Europe as standard?
as someone living in europe, I also don't get it. Sure, it is survivable to drive without airco in most northern parts, but airco is so much more comfortable. Cars without airco are certainly not popular on the second hand market, you might lose more in resale value than the original cost of the airco on the options list. I think the non-airco configuration just exist to have a model with a low starting price to attract customers via advertisements.
The car may be quite small, but the price is definitely high for what it is.
I think this is a great improvement over the previous car, it looks great
I think Nissan might have been better off changing the name and distancing
itself from the old car it replaced, the mk3 Micra was good but the mark mk4 was
was just cheap and cheerful and dull, after watching all the other reviews of this car
I don't no what to think as the other reviews are all positive the others say the Micra
is smooth and very well built and praise its standard safety features, I do agree that air con and electric windows should be standard though at this price.
i want to see the NISMO!!!
O ma mad! I thought it was pronounced "Micra" (like we're saying Meecra)
Yeah.
Hmmmm 6ft struggle for space? That sounds like a challenge
lol nice but fiesta back and Honda civic front 😂😂😂
It's a cross between the Fit(Jazz) and the Fiesta.
+jpchevron lool soo many designs mixed in one
Not as fun to drive as the fiesta, no room in the back , but it’s a good rounder?🤷♂️. Wonder how much Nissan paid him to say that .
Will they even sell one car without air-conditioning 2017..?
I love the looks of it but I kind of don't get it why would I buy it over a Clio which is cheaper and better equipped.
Nissan has a better reliability rating than Renault. I am also a Clio fan but Nissan got it right with this redesign. It looks centuries better than the last Micra. I wish the New Leaf looked as good as this car looks.
Valter Vilar Does the Mirca not have the same Renault engines that the Clio has? I know that some Nissan models like the Qashqal use the Renault I.5 dci unit.
The 'Micra' name will never change. They should've named it something else as it would really help sell the car :(
Agree 100% plus it is not Micra anymore... It has grown a bit.
That´s not only a Micra Problem. Every Model in this class grow´s up. Wait for the next gen Polo, biggest Polo ever.
I agree with you as well but when you get a car that is called MICRA you expect it to be small or at least the smallest of the segment. If the name was Nissan MX2 that wouldn't be a problem...
But is every car under the MINI brand really mini?? I think they do not have any really small car.;) I think the Name Micra is to big for an unpopular super-small class like VW up etc. The new Micra is the biggest ever made but that´s ok, anyway the Micra is a perfect city car.
I am considering buying one myself. It is a beautiful car. I want a Mazda MX5 so bad.. but I know all too well about its shortcomings: no Passengers and no boot space... So a second car might be necessary: Mazda 2 or Micra...
Why is this guy making funny faces!!!!!!? Is he a comedian?
They should change the titel to " 6 minutes of bashing new nissan micra"
I have no issues with James (he's pretty good I have to say) but it's been a while since I saw Ginnie....
Which one is better? Nissan Micra or Nissa Pulsar?
Lol I asked before watching the full review and, personally, for me is Pulsar.
Pulsar is a category above, more expensive.
well there's a shocker, spend more on a car and you get a nicer car
I understand the sarcasm but it is not always true that when you spend more money, you get a better car. Remember the big american cars: Big Fords, Chevrolets and GMs... Their reliability went down considerably when they moved the plants out of the US to Mexico and took other cost cutting decisions. They are on the rebound right now but I still don't trust ''American'' cars...
It's a cross between the Honda Fit(Jazz) and the Ford Fiesta.
more like a rebadged clio
Three cupholders!
looks like peugeot 208 in front and interior, and civic hatchback in rear.
no air conditioning is a good enough reason not to buy this car. They can keep the full view parking camera and lane intervention technology . I NEED air con though
indeed in which parallel dimension does Nissan live? airco is option #1 on everyone's list
Keventon Henry All models but the very basic model do have a/c.
well thats good to hear, but still air con is a must. the other fancy technology isnt
My micra has automatic air conditioning and automatic rear windows.. I don't know what's wrong with micra's in your country
Especially if you live in really hot climates! UK is not really hot, but imagine if you live in southern Europe!
not so micro like it' predecessors, at first sight look bigger than Polo
The old Micra looked run down. This new Micra looks much better than the old one
A VW Polo would wish to have this interior.
or Seat Ibiza. Black in black an looks very cheap.
Polo interior is so outdated
+R P I have a Seat and it has great handling and looks very good outside especially as mine is in green with bigger than standard alloys. The Micra is a lovely car but waaaay too expensive now!
It's unfair to expect a lot from this class of cars... it's best suited for short runs, drop offs and daily errands around town. I wouldn't complain too much. Has a small and economical petrol engine, does the job and gets me from A to B. Off on the motorway or need more performance? Get a bigger engine hatchback or a diesel for the best economy.
Every thing you need but no power windows.
just get the Clio
This is better
Crikey!
They have made a car that mustn't be as competent round the bends than a fiesta, but offer some compensation in other departments while performing as a practical little city car. The thing is that it isn't very practical either nor is it dynamical enough to drive smoothly, the suspension is incompetent for handling or comfort and the overall packaging and seating arrangement is unacceptable. As the car reviewer said that in general it has got no usb, no special or eyecatching purpose in the market, other that it is an average and reasonable choice
The irritating thing about car demand nowadays is that they are filled with gadgets and loads of safety equipment and with their claimed fuel consumption but there are not much models that invest money in handling because there is no money left for that. All of the budget is gone for making it more clever and safe and so called upmarket. Ford fiesta though is built from the ground up to be a dynamic little pocket rocket and therefore people who love driving and not just have to drive are also interested
for instance the old 2002 Micra had the gear ratios optimised specifically with it's mid range 1.4 liter engine with performance in mind. Shifting at correct top end of the rev range was tempting because you didn't want the car to loose loads of momentum when you didn't rev it out. The suspension was subtle enough for every day use and composed enough to inspire confidence. You could feel what the car was doing given that the car was actively giving information through more sensitive steering system, pedals that where in a dynamic relation for perfect use of accelerator, brakes and clutch and all ot this meant that with it's weight distribution of 62/38 it had a relatively neutral force load on every tire and overall balance. Neutrality ofcourse means for everyday driver that the car might loose control and that is why most mass producing car manufacturers make the cars less dynamic in terms of agility, so that it would be safer and that is why no one bothers to make exiting cars anymore
its a clio...built in same factory
No! It has a better engine than Clio.
It's the all new 2017 Nissan Micra and it is the best small car ever. IT Features a lot of Room and fit 5 occupants and Making it the comparison of the VW polo, Toyota Yaris, Kia Rio and Hyundai I20.
Nice review but I was never embarist on driving one micra is greatest reliable car , don’t buy it at sundridge park Bromley Kent as they get u to sign for knew one and they sell u pre reg at hardly no discount , when u complain they say u signed , I called Nissan to complain but they say the garage is franchised , I never brought another Nissan since amd never will :
Nice rebadged Clio
no a/c as standard that sucks. even the most basic cars these days have it.
What happened to the other guy, the other reviewer?? I liked his reviews much more than this one, even though they are still very good reviews
nisde22 What a surprise! I would have never imagine that. I guess I'll visit his channel... later. Thank you.
The other reviewer started creating those standard annoying youtube vlogger thumbnails and video descriptions so I unsubscribed again.
third yes then
You just have to look at the 360 parking cameras and aids to see why driving standards are now so poor. It's a Nissan MICRA, if you need help parking it then you shouldn't be driving it. Or anything else.
WTF - no air conditioning
I love the car but gave you a thumbs down for the video. just look through your comments....need i say more?
reminds me of a peugeot or is it based on it
Matt Watson > This Guy
No
Nissan is Sh . dUmd test resoults.
For no reason, his hands when he is showing legroom really irritates me. I hate it so much. Sometimes I think about how much I hate it when I'm at work, or at the gym.
Sounds like you need to talk to someone about this.
Now I feel bad. I was just hungover and wanted attention. As you were
first lads
very pretty on the outside, lacking quality on the inside...standard sub compact car xD
all micras have been ugly since they first come out except this one it now it has style
Dude! You shouldn't review cars.
Try busses or lorry review instead. You got plenty of room to stick wow bottle and suitcase..
Shitty car, much better than the one it replaced, but huge gap between this fake Clio and other newcomers like Kia Rio
Unfortunately still not a class leader.
So please tell me wich micra in the past was class leader?? No one. Micra stands for good loocking, inexpensive but reliable city car not for class leader.
so it's all looks and no personality. like most nissans. or exes.
Horrible engines, useless.
But this is the future. In a few years you won´t get a 4cyl. in this class.
I was not even talking about the number of cylinders.
But the other japanese comapnies all have newly developed 4-cylinder engines, like the new 1.2 dualjet 4 cylinder from Suzuki, the 1.5 4 cylinder in the Yaris, the 1.3 4 cylinder in the Jazz,... And when NEFZ gets replaced this year 3 cylinders will lose some of their EU protection...
Very ugly Clio. From some angles looks like squashed Sandero.
It's so pathetic that this car (as well as Corsa) has no electric rear windows (even as an option)... That's the reason why I wouldn't buy this car, seriously ;)
I don´t know why but the K14 get´s electric rear windows and AT transmission at the end of the year.
If you look at this car from the front, it looks like a mouse with autism
Lol, another ugly and unpractical car from Nissan, shame they claim that will try to reborn Mitsubishi brand but they fail to rebuild their own Micra first. 👎
This bloke has issues
