    One of the nicest historical cities in England, I guarantee you'll love a day out in Canterbury!
    If you have any questions: write them in a separate comment and I'll try and get back to you as soon as.

    Another great vid. Good advice about getting a guided tour of the cathedral, and skipping the Roman museum. Must re-read Canterbury Tales before going!

      Thanks again - yes the Roman museum was a bust, but the Cathedral is awesome.

    Thanks for this guide to Canterbury. I really enjoyed it. When my family went there, several years ago now, we had a great day out, but we missed a lot of the things you highlight. So, after your video we now have a good reason to go back and check out all the other 'stuff' you discovered! Cheers.

    Thank you for the preparation effort and the tour. I'm so sick and tired of some people just walking around a deeply historical place and waving their mobile phone erratically - with no single word of commentary. And then, they dare to call that "a tour"! 🤬👎🙈 Yours is pretty good! One thing to mention, though: the museums are going through very difficult phase today; some of them are better than others, but I've never felt that I've wasted time or money, because those ancient items we see in them, are precious reminders of the lives from the past. In fact, that particular museum was created only due to the fact that a part of the city was bombed by the Nazi in WW2: all items in there had been unearthed by the blast. That fact alone earns that small museum a thumb up 👍💖

      Thanks very much, I appreciate your kind comments.
      The worst ones are the people who point the camera at themselves for the vast majority of the video - nothing irritates me more!
      I wish I had more views and subscribers for my efforts, but hopefully that'll come soon.
      Thanks again.

    It's worth noticing that the ticket to the Cathedral is valid for 1 year. You can visit as often as you like.

    I visit a couple of times a year, staying at Folkestone. The bus ride between Folkestone and Canterbury goes through some beautiful and amazing countryside, either the Gold Rider or the bus which takes a little longer and sees more villages. Don't miss the boat rides when you're in Canterbury, or the old church which houses the Canterbury Tales experience. Evensong is free to attend every evening so you don't have to pay to enter the Cathedral grounds. If you just want to sit in the Cathedral and enjoy some very high church worship, it's an hour long service. The Sunday morning Eucharist is also an experience. The services are livestreamed on You Tube, too, and there are coffee and biscuits after the Sunday morning service.

      @@Anil18834 Hi, they usually sing every Sunday, but there are also services during the day. It is worth checking their website, though, as they often have various events when the Cathedral gets closed for tourists.

    Great video! Would recommend The Parrot pub off the High Street and it's back garden area. And The Eastbridge Hospital smack bang in the middle of town is very historic fab place. I believe though the great Canterbury Tales attraction has now closed down.

    You say Canterbury is the most well known place of pilgrimage for Protestants (outside the Holy Land of course. The Garden Tomb comes to mind) and you're probably right. But I've pointed out other places in past comments to your videos that I think are close seconds; Ulm, Germany (has the tallest church in the world which happens to be Lutheran), Eisleben, Germany (place of birth and death of Martin Luther) and Hipswell, UK (birthplace of John Wycliffe).
    Anyway, I thought to recap all those past suggestions because this video reminded me of all of them.

    • @UltimateBucketList
      @UltimateBucketList  2 роки тому +1

      Sure, why not? ;)
      Those places sounds like fun places to go to. I've seem pictures of the minster in Ulm ... it's very similar to that famous one in Iceland.
      Really would like to go some day!

    You should go to Ulm Minster because it’s the tallest church in the free world.

    U know Everton are making a new stadium right now, once it's done, could u do a tour of it?

    • @UltimateBucketList
      @UltimateBucketList  2 роки тому

      Yeah, I'm fully aware that Bramley Moore Dock Stadium is being built and it would be cool to do a tour there.
      But given that most people that watch the stadium tours, don't bother sharing and all they do is whine and complain, my motivation for making more stadium tours is incredibly low right now.

    as someone who lives in Folkestone where the channel tunnel is and only 20 minutes away from Canterbury, I've never really found it that interesting personally, in my experiences it's a nice place that is just rammed with students as it has the ONLY university in the entirety of kent

    • @UltimateBucketList
      @UltimateBucketList  2 роки тому

      I can believe that it's rammed with students. I didn't find much of a problem with that personally, but it's one of those things on your doorstep that's probably so normal to you, it's nothing special.
      I live about an hour's drive from the Lake District, and everyone raves about it, but like you, I'm fairly indifferent towards it.

      @@UltimateBucketList it's not that bad at the moment, we're in the summer holidays so a lot of people have gone back home for the summer a friend of mine is back in Singapore at the moment, but yeah, I don't find things close to me or near me that attractive for tourists but that's mostly because I'm so used to seeing these things, Canterbury is worth a visit if someone is in the area but If I was a tourist I probably wouldn't make a day out of it if you were based around London

      You can do!
      During services, you can enter free of charge and just sit there if you want.
      The quietest bits are the underground croft (nobody's allowed to speak or take photos down there) and the private side chapels.

      I spent last two days in Canterbury and felt very safe. At the mo the ticket to Cathedral is £15.50 and it is valid for a full 1 year so you can visit as often as you like within this time. Audio guide is £5, I believe guided tour is also £5. Definitely a place to visit, in my opinion.
