This is an incredible interview. It's sad that it's so rare to see two intelligent people conversing in an intellectual way about a film and it really highlights the epidemic dumbing down that's been occurring in the media during the last couple of decades.
This really shows how important interesting questions are to a good interview. I usually hate interviews, because the talent involved is clearly bored after getting the same questions 1001 times. I watched this one, because I knew Hiddleston is too personable to give a bad interview but the question was thoughtful and she had clearly done her homework about him. Great stuff!
NOW THIS IS WHAT I CALL AN INTERVIEW! Asking real things! Intelligent questions, actors are waiting to be asked for these kind of questions, where they can explain all the psichology's character they had been working in. You just have to see his reactions when he was asked and the way he thinks his answersm even he said it. I wish this was longer because it was trurly interesting. Congrats to the lady, she was very professional!
I love many of the Crimson Peak interviews, especially this one. The questions are intelligent and stay on topic and allow him to answer from his heart. They aren't all about silly things or questions we've hear before, or even about Loki, though I love him dearly. This is classy and lovely, and the interview actually knew what she was talking about. Good job both of you.
I love Tom hiddlestons interviews. He really does do his research and actually knows what he is talking about. I like the way he gets so involved with his characters and makes them his own and I think they all have different little twist and a depth that he adds to them on top of what is written in the script and invisioned by the director.
3:06 "healthy sexuality"-OK, he just spoke through millennia of sexual standards right there but yeah, having watched it a few times I could say Thomas Sharpe's character dynamic is my favorite thing about the movie. People love seeing Lucille and Edith fight but we're used to it now: girls in movies fighting each other with the badassery of real men, hot damn. *But when a guy catches feelings, we're programmed to think he's going to be a weakling at some point in this film.* Because sentiment is often relegated to the feminine, especially in the period Crimson Peak was set in, much more the years before that. But lots of revolutions start with sentiment. What's rebellion if you don't feel like it, right? And sentiment IMO had me looking at Thomas as rebelling against the near loveless, parasitic marriage-and-murder life he had to live in and out of that crumbling Allerdale Hall with his sister. I was thinking maybe he was only starting to have feelings for the other three wives when they killed them, and Edith being a writer of ghost stories and love stories (unsurprisingly Crimson Peak is both) gave him a chance to look back and figure out how to stop the parasitism and regain control of his life because basically the house and his sister held him captive. As for sexuality, it's a norm inversion with the same reason: love. Incest is taboo in various cultures but for the Sharpe siblings it's their norm because it keeps them alive and safe from the outside world. And so when Thomas falls for Edith and "rebels" against that norm, given the history that they have, Lucille feels jealous and threatened. It's kind of the same feeling with why religions are against sexual deviances and include the LGBTQIA in that category. Basically they want their ideology to survive because we can kill people but not their thoughts/ideas/sentiments/beliefs, because those can be passed on but to keep it pure, they insist on defining sex as reproduction. Producing healthy babies you can implant your thoughts/ideas/sentiments/beliefs in so even if you're dead, something about you will always live on. You fear dying in the form of the outside world tarnishing the mark you left in everyone, but it's inevitable. And that, people, brings us back to the way he said "healthy sexuality". Thomas loving Edith is healthy by convention of the times but is a threat to Lucille because with Edith, *Thomas can live without Lucille but Lucille cannot live without Thomas, in every aspect of the term.* Thomas loves his sister and he doesn't want to let her suffer, and he saw a new life with Edith as his chance to free himself and pull his sister out of her suffering because of exactly that. Thanks, Tom!
I usually don't read long comments but at 3:11 is when they mentioned healthy sexuality and I remembered seeing your comment so I had to read it. Thank you 😊
Such a good interviewer! Anyone can ask questions about trivial things, but she's obviously done her research and is well educated on her topics. People need to conduct more interviews like these!
He's actually cuter in person and talented of course! I wish a sequel was made for this movie, would love to see how the sickness in their relationship started in the family.
this is probably the best interview I've ever seen. the questions are complex and unique and both are engaged in a discussion rather than a superficial q&a
Really happy for the interviewer good thing she opened with that question which i think really impressed tom and set the vibe for the rest of the interview. Yaas
Interviewer: *asks well thought out question with deep meaning and actually shows that there is done research for the actor, character, the movie in general and what the movie is inspired by* Tom: Wait, that’s illegal. But for real I would be kind of stressed if such questions were asked about a character I would play but I didn’t know exactly the answers.
Exactly. I'm not a native English speaker, but I concider my understanding of the language almost perfect. Just couldn't understand what she was asking him, though it probably has nothing to do with language 😳 Damn, Tom is so intelligent and hot.
I truly enjoyed this interview, very smart and interesting questions...they really focused on this film for what it was. A Gothic Romance as Tom had mentioned. I went into the film knowing what this film was going to be and its setting. Many others thought it was going to be a bloody horror show, just as many "horror" genre film has become. Many of the people walked away disappointed in the movie expecting a gory blood bath with cheap acting and jump scares. Where I walked away very happy with the solid acting and story, it was a beautiful film and I was disappointed with my fellow audience members for not opening their minds to a new but old style of story telling.
Very important to have this quality of interviews for an actor. I think she inspired him, and opened possibilitys for future preparation for parts. Thanks
omg this is the best interviewer I've ever seen so rarely is it obvious that they put a lot of thought into their questions and generally care about having a discussion about the film's ideas and themes
I imagine after having to do interview after interview actors appreciate thought invoking questions such as this. No giggling over Tom’s sex symbol status. Well done interviewer, well done!
And that folks, is how you do an interview! I mean, i like the light hearted atmosphere of some other interviews, but this interview is a good example of what we need to counterbalance much of the shallow, vapid, crap interviews that interviewees are tolerating.
My lord, this interviewer is amazingly intelligent and I’m so here for it. I love her questions and I’m equally delighted by his happy reaction to them!
I love Tom Hiddleston I love how relaxed he is in Interviews His role of Thomas Sharpe was amazing the emotion into his characters is amazing its one amazing film crimson peak seen in so many times never gets old there's always a story behind every character he plays he's such an intelligent person such a gentlemen I love the horror element behind this film the whole Gothic romance element to it Guillermo del toro directed this film so well amazing Director
To borrow a phrase from Dashie, I thought once Thomas finally got the puh, he magically turned good, but Tom's analysis of his character's metamorphosis brings it far more depth than I originally gave credit for.
She's a great interviewer wow, that first question was a knock out and I don't think he was prepared for something that deep and clever. She knows her shit.
I could say good questions ,great interwiew but i just look at Tom and listen his beautiful voice😁😁😁😁😁....Crimson peak...one of the best films ever made....and Tom Hiddleston one of the best actors ever....love you Tom❤❤❤❤❤
I would have loved to live in this era. Great movie I love The Character of Sir Thomas Sharp. I love this couple of Thomas and Edith I feel like Edith will never love again the way she loved Thomas sort of a forbidden love.
I liked how the film 'flipped' the dominance of the main characters. In Victorian, 19th Century wealth in America gave you power but in England it was always about class. That's what the Spencer's thought would allow them free reign in the new world. It was interesting to see how his sister and wife had more control over him. This is why I like Guillermo Del Toro; he doesn't follow the tradition of Western 'Patriarchy' and this film is in some way quite feminist.
As a Fan of Horrorstories, i can imagine him as a Character like Jekyll/Hyde/Frankenstein, Jack the Ripper, Dorian Grey or a Story about Bram Stoker or Blake. That would be so cool! If they would work together again. Sexy Horrorfilm ? Or did she mean he was sexy in that Horror (Gothic Romance with Ghosts) Film ?
Can this woman interview more people because she honestly asks some of the most thoughtful questions.
Yeah, such a intelligent lady.
Agreed! She's great!
Yea
I was thinking the same.. these are great questions..
SRSLY. Give her her own series.
"Wow that's an amazing question"... Tom, you sir, are an amazing human.
I totally agree 😍
I will literally listen to him read an entire phonebook.
same same same
He could make a phonebook or even a calculus textbook sound exciting and interesting.
So true! I don't even try to remember what he's saying I just want to hear his voice.😶
have you guys heard the talkshow where he was just reading math stuff..
Kelly Schlagwein do share!
This is an incredible interview. It's sad that it's so rare to see two intelligent people conversing in an intellectual way about a film and it really highlights the epidemic dumbing down that's been occurring in the media during the last couple of decades.
So well said!

+Tebigong101 I agree! It was so refreshing!
Finally, someone who asks a good question to Tom. He needs to be heard, and seen.
Excellent questions. THAT'S the quality of interview we should be seeing on network morning news programs.
Right? Instead of "yo, what color panties were you wearing in x day of shoot?"

This is my favorite comment on all of UA-cam.
👏Spot👏On
That is an impeccable dissection of his character in particular and the plot in general. You couldn't have said it better.
This is the smartest comment i have read, ever.
Thank you
I usually don't read long comments but at 3:11 is when they mentioned healthy sexuality and I remembered seeing your comment so I had to read it. Thank you 😊
I loved the questions this interviewer asked! Really insightful and engaging!
Such a good interviewer! Anyone can ask questions about trivial things, but she's obviously done her research and is well educated on her topics. People need to conduct more interviews like these!

He's wonderfully insightful.

An interesting interview and an intelligent interviewer who puts in thought and research! I hope she gets to do more interviews like these!
This interview is so on point. It is like a short video version of a student's literature thesis. Well done.

Heh. Cleaver.
Like the one in Lady Sharpe's head?
My lord, this interviewer is amazingly intelligent and I’m so here for it. I love her questions and I’m equally delighted by his happy reaction to them!
How to be a great interviewer without asking privacy invading questions
What excellent questions! Kudos to her, so nice to give him room for deep answers.
This interviewer is really good! Tom intelligent and thoughtful as ever! Brilliant combination. Wish this interview would have been longer.

Sir Thomas Sharpe is iconic...
Not only in Victorian era, that kind of a sexuality is timeless which makes a lot of sisters in law's and daughters in law's lives a hell
Lady you're wonderful
As a Fan of Horrorstories, i can imagine him as a Character like Jekyll/Hyde/Frankenstein, Jack the Ripper, Dorian Grey or a Story about Bram Stoker or Blake. That would be so cool!
