Whoever trashed this house had absolutely no respect or regard for the unique quality and hard work put into building a house like this. Victorian houses were built with great care and attention to detail. Quality materials and craftsmanship. They are literally works of art. Not this new build bs. With the exception of preservation, when a society can do this to something this beautiful, it's cause for concern. Thank you for acknowledging what is sadly becoming the dinosaurs of architecture.

The fire escape indicates not only apartments but probably legal ones meeting health and safety codes. Slumlords would merely install a few doors and a hot plate and rent to people who could not afford better and safer. Too many of these grand houses allowed to be destroyed when cities like this and Dayton could have implemented programs to save them. Noticed the ugly apartment building in the background of early outside pic- yuck! Block apartment buildings - Hideous architecture…..this house had class and a Fabulous third story apartment. Thank you for this tour! Tho it is sad to see bits torn out at least they are probably still in use somewhere- surviving the wrecking ball

The servants staircase was elaborate for such so like you I imagine the main staircase was amazing. I suspect that more than just the newel posts, balusters, and mantels were stripped. Old houses a couple of hundred years old, split up for apartments. Makes sense as far as heating and maintenance. 3 or 4 incomes to offset the modern costs.

Neighborhoods go through cycles. Once grand and elegant eventually become run down and outdated. Old architecture, although stunning and higher quality than what is built today, is expensive to maintain and doing so is a labor of love. When the surrounding area, although all once beautiful, becomes low-rent, the downward decline is difficult to stave off.

Built in the mid 1800's I think by the first banker in town... 2 story brick that needs a ton of work..it's rural which I love and I am the biggest antique person around I think. Mom and dad did some updating in the 70's which is ugly but as you know, it's spendy to fix. But I love it . I collect antiques and only wish they could talk and tell me what they've been thru over the years.

It breaks my heart when these old beauties aren't appreciated. Seeing the original chandeliers and mantles made me imagine how beautiful it was. What! an amazing find. From the looks of it, this epic place must have surely been some sort of a room & board kind of house, for people who were receiving a low income budget. However, this monumental Victorian style mansion was most probably a magnificent house, during its prime time, back in the heydays. Especially during the turn of the last century. It definitely deserves to be restored at once, since that there’s not much water damage through the ceilings, or even through the roof. It’s well worth it. Thanks for posting this and have yourself a belated happy new year! 2022, Kappy! Johnny, Montréal, Canada 🇨🇦.

I'd buy and fix it up if I had the money. It's a beautiful house.

Love the green walled room with the stenciling. The parting shots of some other abandoned homes were really nice. The stone house and the interior pic of that lux living area. Very nice.

The lyrics from Prince's song 'When Doves Cry' was written on that wall. I wonder how long ago.

I loved this house tour once you walked in, interesting house to view. Also I loved the Architecture of this house the wood veneering going upstairs was beautiful 🤩 The built in closets was very nice especially for the time, Very handy with shelves as well. The floors were full of stuff and rubbish, interesting if your in to seeing old fashioned items Books or Clothing. Loved seeing the upstairs with all of the Books 📕 on the landing. I was also interested in seeing the shelves and Cabinets that held Books or other items. 🕹😀

Living in Ohio I've had the opportunity to see a lot of these old mansions Kappy. There's only a few still up in northeast Ohio but let me know if you'd like to see them. Always glad to see you my way.
Not many urban explorer's do it like you do. Keep up the great work!
I'll email you some locations to look into.

Everytime I see those old pocket doors it reminds me how thankful I am to have lived in not one but 2 old houses that had those pocket doors they were so cool to cut off a room when you had visitors in the "Calling Room". We had no idea we were so lucky as kids to have those and one house a full attic that was our bedroom and playroom and I'm not "that old" lol. Now that one house has been restored and is in a once again very Ritzy side of town called the Italian Village. Columbus, Ohio. Anna In Ohio

So much to look at in this one. It's just so sad that its left to let ole mother nature take it back. I could hear your young lady in the background. Tell her I said hello. And thanks for taking me along!
