    Love this. Love the 'Gorm Ikea' pedal solution! If you want to be more creative and also not use Velcro, measure the pedals out and make some pencil marks either side on the wood, drill some holes in (before you prime and paint) and then you can use zip ties which don't ruin the pedals bottom side.. and believe me once ziptied up don't even move!

    • @grishayampolsky
      @grishayampolsky 3 роки тому +1

      there's a way how not to ruin your pedals' bottom using velcro
      just use a double-sided tape at the bottom of your stompbox and then stick your velcro to that tape instead of just sticking it the pedal itself

  • @stephaniejkaye
    @stephaniejkaye Рік тому +1

    A tip when using stick on velcro, heat it up first with a hairdryer so the glue is tacky, it sticks better and for longer. You can also buy a heavy duty velcro that doesn’t budge.

    Well, you didn’t so much make one as repurposed ikea parts. Wonder if you could have added a wooden backer to angle it some. Over all, I am glad it worked for you! Thanks for sharing

      Shortly afterwards I made one for my brother and I put larger rubber feet at the back and smaller ones at the front to give it the angle. I also stuck some handles on to make it easier to carry. I think handles are kind of what’s missing from pedaltrain boards too. 🤔

      Awesome! I'd advise putting the velcro on the outside edges of each plank, as opposed to in the middle (as I did in the video). With the velcro on the outside edges, it's easier for smaller pedals to straddle the planks. Enjoy! ;)

    I think the main flaw is mentioned at about 7:28: I'm not sure if these IKEA shelves really last when you actually STOMP on a stomp box... they're not that solid.

    • @jtguitartv
      @jtguitartv  4 роки тому +2

      They're still going and I'm a heavy guy. If anything the flex is what has prevented them from breaking.
      The biggest flaw, in my opinion, is that I still have found a case that fits for a reasonable price. :)

      It is a bit feeble as it is. There are better designed ones out there that involve more work. I did one myself. It's ok, took me a while, I made a frame for it so it's more solid it's made so it has two levels which has perks and drawbacks. I had fun doing it. Most importantly it was made to fit inside a big briefcase I had lying around with some cables. I don't even have all the pedals I want yet but I'll get there

    • @jtguitartv
      @jtguitartv  6 років тому +2

      Great, still using it. Because the wood is springy, and not brittle, it's surprisingly resilient. I would recommend screwing on rubber feet as the stick-on ones fell.off the other day. Glad you enjoyed it, I may do a follow-up video about some other changes. I'd put the velcro along the top and bottom of each plank and not in the middle. That way smaller pedals can reach more easily across the planks.

      Hmm. What about the impacts and precipitation? I think that's where DYI pedalboards fall short. I love your idea and execution if you've got a home studio, etc. but taking it on the road is another matter. That's where the 'expense' in expensive pedalboards is. You're not just buying the board, you're buying the case - custom fitted to the board. Figure out a soft case for your board - that's not a heavy plywood box - my friend, and you've struck gold! Can't wait to see your idea. Cheers from PA, USA!

    • @jtguitartv
      @jtguitartv  7 років тому

      +bumble yeti yeah, this isn't for heavy gigging. If someone is doing a lot of gigging though, they should invest in a pedaltrain. If I were on tour, that's what I'd do. But for paying locally or just in my studio is fine as it is. I want a pedaltrain but wow I'm not gigging much it didn't make sense to spend £100+ on a pedal board, I'd rather spend that on pedals. So I'm not weird about a case. Also, you can just buy flight cases to fit, they're just not great value. :)

      @bumblesnowmonster 7 років тому +1

      Yessir, I agree. Hoping to stir your and your brothers creative juices to build a case. Lots of folks out there who don't just need a good, cheap board but a way to carry it. Most of us are poor up and coming musicians. I'm sure you guys could invent something fairly light and durable. 👍

    • @jtguitartv
      @jtguitartv  5 років тому +2

      Lol, I've decided to make use of the "spare pedals" by making a pedalboard for my students to use during lessons. :D
      That Snarling Dogs Wah is amazing though! I highly recommend it if you don't mind the weight. :P

      @@jtguitartv Worth an ask :) good way to put it to use and I've already been out to buy supplies to build this pedal board 👌👌👌

    • @jtguitartv

      @@SeiphersZone awesome! Enjoy. Put the velcro on the outside edges of each strip though, not in the middle. That way nano pedals can still reach the the velcro across the gaps. ;)

    • @jtguitartv
      @jtguitartv  7 років тому

      +Moshi Production don't worry, the pedal train is worth every penny. THIS is more like a temporary solution for while you'd rather spend money on pedals than the pedal board. :) I'm planning on buying a pedaltrain soon too. ;)

      @jtguitartv  7 років тому +1

      +Sunny Strathern hi, I'm Anyone. :P It was the smaller of the two Hejne shelves. And they come as a pair for £5 (I'm not 100% sure on the price anymore). :)

      well.. next week I'll get my first one, so I'm thinking about build a simple one for a small kit for it and another couple of pedals i'm looking for, just for starters. That's why I was looking for some budget options. Later I may build a more complete one...
      Here there isn't Ikea, but the shelf idea was great... I'll try to look for a similar option!

    • @jtguitartv
      @jtguitartv  7 років тому

      +João Avelino that sounds great. You can order the shelf online btw. :)
      I'm also thinking about making a more complicated one at some point.

    • @rockonileva
      @rockonileva 7 років тому +1

      Interesting... When you decide to put it together, film it!
      I'm also thinking about another project, to build a booster pedal... those cost between $200 and $300 here, so I decided to build one, I sent the electronic scheme to a friend (who works with electronics), and I'm modeling the box with MDF and Stainless Steel (not sure if those are the best materials, but it's what is available to buy easily (if you have any suggestions, they're welcome ;) )

    • @jtguitartv
      @jtguitartv  7 років тому

      +João Avelino that sounds like a cool project! The EGX soul food is a great booster Paul though and not expensive. It's Actually one of my favourite pedals of all time!
      However, building your own will be such a cool experience and it might sound amazing! Best of luck with that. :D

    Абсолютно глупый перерасход места. Нормальный педалборд с питанием внизу будет в два раза меньше по площади. Дурачок.
