- Renaissance before Annie Haslam!
Back on again... in a better quality!... Enjoy! ;-)
Most of you are probably more familiar with the Renaissance group featuring Annie Haslam as main vocalist instead of the original line-up featuring Keith Relf and Jane Relf as front singers...
In between this transitional stage however, Renaissance had seen a succession of personnel and changes in style over a year or so!..
The line-up shown here, only knew a short existence from November till December 1970.
It consisted of:
Terry Crowe ( backing vocals)
Binky Cullom (lead vocals)
Mike Dunford (guitar)
John Tout (keyboards)
Terry Slade (drums)
Neil Korner (bass guitar)

I can't believe that I'm sitting around a campfire with the singer of this band in 2024. She's an angel full of knowledge ✨️ thanks binky.
This band with its rich history never seizes to amaze me.
Binky has such a wonderful voice. So sultry and smoky. Too bad she didn't carry on with her ability. Hope she's had a great life since this was done. Thank you, Binky, for your time with the band.
My mum was good friends with Binky in the 80’s, I have loads of baby photos of myself with both her and Terry
@@charlottegoldsmith4831 I hope she’s had a good life. How cool to have a connection with her.
Wow 👌 she's an angel, and I'm sharing her company around a campfire every night in Wiltshires Pewsey downs. In 2024. ❤
Oh Binky how wonderful, so beautiful, captivating.
xxx
Her voice is just unreal.
And this woman is drop dead gorgeous!!!
@Bactreate Nope. Binky Cullom. She retired not long afterwards and married the drummer (Chris Slade) who went on to fame with Manfred Mann's Earth Band, amongst others
@@riceuteneuer2678 Binky married Terry Slade the drummer in the clip. They are old friends of mine. They are still together and live in Bognor Regis
@@MrArthurdog my mum and dad were good friends of Terry and Binky, loads of childhood memories of them and visiting them in Bognor. Also Ken Kennedy
Wow! This is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard. Her vocals are incredible. Great songwriting and lyrics as well. I'm totally mesmerized by this. Thanks so much!!!
Now we are in England with school and Binky is one of our teachers in here. Oh my god I love her so much. Her energy, her personality... And her voice sounds just like an angel❤
Thank you Binky, you are amazing. It was pleasure to meet you!❤
Wow
One of the most beautiful songs I've heard...
Wow! Delightful vocals... and very pleasant to look at 🥰
One of the best songs ever
Where is this incredible singer? I have no words to describe how deep is her voice, she sings from her soul!
It gets me, to this day that music 50 years old is so soothing
awesome this video ♥
I have seen them 40 years ago at Hammersmith Odeon at London when I was in Britain studying ...about life & ways of living...Amazing Band...excellent music...I have all the records in vinyl of Renaissance, Annie Haslam, Illusion and Yardbirds...Because Keith Relf was ONE of his kind as well as Jim McCarty...merci beaucoup...arrivederci...🎩?.
PS. Jane Relf had also an amazing voice...
Binky put emotion ling into this song, it drives right into my heart.
As much as I like binky I still think Jane's studio version is better
This song will be with you until you die... regardless of who sings ... Jane, Binky, Annie...
You rock
Thanks a lot for posting!!
This is a incredible song.....fantastic!
@thatmuse76 No, this one is from Belgium!... The "Island" and "Kings and Queens" vids are from German TV footage on the other hand!...
I didn't know there was an "in between" lineup for Renaissance. Binky did a good job with the vocals.
Haunting , its always been one of my favorite Renaissance tracks.
Thank you so much for posting this enhanced quality soundtrack and video of this lovely song. ....sung by the amazing Binky Cullum.
It truly is my all time favourite video.
I love Jane, but Binky just nails this,so much emotion in this version.
John Tout on piano & Michael Dunford on guitar. Wow! Thanks for uploading.
WOW ❤, ME ENCANTA ESTA VERSIÓN CON BINKY Y SU VIBRATO😘👏🏼👌🏼ME ENCHINA LA PIEL, SÓLO FALTÓ ESCUCHAR A ANNIE HASSLAM CON SU VERSION 😉
John Tout’s playing always had a very recognizable and fluid style! Binky sounds absolutely lovely here and of course your percussion was perfect for the song. It’s always great to see and hear Keith! Thanks very much for posting this valuable piece of Renaissance history! I have the albums but had forgotten about this beautiful song.
Very emotional song, indeed!
Thank you @JimMcCarthyandCo I´m a huge Renaissance fan in all of it´s incarnations. I´ve always thought that was a rare case of a band with two different lineups but wait, there were three (apart from Dunford in common with R Mark II and III) , Pure beauty was the main ingredient in all of them ... I wonder which is the more in depth biography of this band, from 68 / 69 to present.
Wonderful.I cant stop listenning! Many thanks!Obrigada
Thank you Jim, for putting up all of these treasures. Many of which I still have the original vinyls of from back then. They so greatly influenced my playing.
You play?
the first 2 minutes are sublime
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU FOR THE POST. SUCH A BEAUTIFUL SONG. A BLESSING . . .
Beautiful!
Love her voice!. Love Annie´s voice too...
Really wish she had remained and together with Annie Haslam would have made a super duet

What a voice amazing. I think I prefer this version of renaissance much as I allways admired Annie Haslam
Me too. She has a wonderful voice and looks like a goddess!
Linda música, obrigado por postar
This is from a fairly land. So magical.
Lovely Binky.
Thanks beautiful
Wow... beautiful.
Thanks for sharing ! Love this song and the album Ilusion ... : )
I think this was the first line up of Renaissance, with no albums edited. The first album was "Renaissance" with Keith and Jane Relf (as solo voice). After Keith's dead was edited "Illusion", with the same line up. And then the third line up, with Annie Haslam.
@MrTylerSlade
That's definitely cool. Your parents were part of a great and very sophisticated era of rock music.
Lindo D+ 🇧🇷
I wish someone would write a book on the definitive history of Renaissance.😊
Thanks for sharing...
i love this song!!
Jane Relf, simply superb
FranzenPetra Not Jane, that's Binky Cullom.
Yup, you're right. She looks nothing like Jane at all.
Truth my friend!
Thanks for posting this.
Be sure to see the album "Tuscany: The Other Woman, also features her. (2001)
It's all about Binky here, isn't it? Really resonant, rich tone. Lovely. Love to find some of her folk stuff.
Esta es una de las pocas bandas de rock progresivo con voz femenina que me agradan...
my god, I can not find anything about Binky Cullom ... photos, sites, songs ...
Que voz cativante!!!
Beautiful Melody progressive rock uk
Beautiful!
amazing!
genial!!!
sensazionale!!!
40年以上前に何度も何度も毎日聴いていたような…
コピーバンド?
blinky rocks!
I assume that Annie Haslam must have sung this song after Binky left. I'd love love to hear that! This may be Jim's best song...
Jane Relf sang it for Illusion, which included Jim McCarty, and most of the original Renaissance lineup
As it turns out, Annie did sing it: ua-cam.com/video/QjLx5fr3D5w/v-deo.html
Wow!
I've been enjoying this song since the 70's. I don't know the singer, she's not Jane Relf, but she's very good.
Very good song very good band
this is awesome....always loved annie and jane before her didnt realize their was one in between.......could be the best of the three.......must be really cool to see your mom in this vid "tylerslade"
헐 세상에...
Não vi ninguém ali da outra formação. Quem me diz que isso aí é realmente o Renaissence???
I'd love to have the sheet music for this.
No one is like Jane Relf!
Including this singer - Binky Collom
I personally believe Jane Relf's version is in a whole different league, and not meaning to be rude or anything, but I also wouldn't say that it's a matter of opinion in this case. In fact, I'm gonna call Jane now to arrange a concert of some of the absolutely mind-blowing songs she used to sing so beautifully :)
Totally agree Mark. This girl's phrasing sounds very schooled and mannered... I love Jane's vocals on all the songs I've heard with her....
@MrTylerSlade love her voice
Does anybody have any info on Binky Cullom? It is almost as she appeared in Renaissance for a few months then disappeared into oblivion. I can't say that I really was to into her interpretation of the material, although I am very thankful that is here to fill in the missing chapter. From what I can gather, the footage from this program (German?) is the only document of this line-up.
She married the drummer, Terry Slade, and still is with him to date
Is Binky the one singing on the album version? It sounds more like her than Jane.
Binky Cullom, eh?
I always thought that it was Jane Relf doing all the lead vocals.
mottledbrain Jane was on the album. It gets kind of confusing as I think the Relf/Relf/McCarty/Cennamo, replacing John Hawken with Don Shinn was recording "Past Orbits of Dust" around the time this line up was touring. They kind of co-existed for awhile.
Why I haven't heard about her 😮 was she after Jane and before Annie ?
binky is so beautiful, and has a voice like an angel. the Annie group just made it commercial, money talks ___ walks
Binky own's the "Face of Yesterday".
Why did this version of the band only last a couple of months?
The best line up in my opinion. Wish it had carried on
Wow why didn't she keep on singing- she's got such a great voice.
.
or binky!
Is this Jane Relf singing???
2 versions were recorded
No, Binky Cullom. She replaced Jane for a couple of months before she was, in turn, replaced by Annie Haslam.
Jane Relf and Binky better than Haslam, change my mind.
X
Where's Annie ?
Sorry but her voice is not as clear and accurate as that of both other singers. She must have known this - the other musicians as well of course ... Sad to hear this failed version ...
